Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 56: One Dead, Three Injured
Back of the hotel.
Rosalind felt somewhat guilty. Although she didn’t think she had done anything wrong, Mason’s furious tone just now still frightened her.
So she took the opportunity to slip away before Mason arrived.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she walked out the back door, a taxi stopped in front of her. Mason pushed the door open and got out, his face dark and angry. He slammed the car door shut and grabbed her, "Where do you think you’re going?"
If he hadn’t predicted her move beforehand, he might not have caught her!
Rosalind was startled, "Brother, how do you always appear out of nowhere..."
Mason’s anger hadn’t subsided. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a deserted corner.
Rosalind grimaced, trying to free herself from his grip, somewhat resentfully, "Brother, you’re hurting me!"
Mason looked at her coldly, "Good, pain helps you remember! What were you planning to do to Elara just now?"
"Brother! She’s just an outsider. You’re already divorced! Why do you still care about her?" Rosalind stomped her feet, "Don’t tell me you still can’t let her go. What about Cece?"
"What does this have to do with Cece!" Mason tightly knitted his brows, looking at Rosalind, "Don’t drag others into this. Did you drug Elara just now? Where were you planning to take her?"
Rosalind bit her lip, "I didn’t..."
"Tell the truth!" Mason’s voice deepened slightly, warning her, "Rosalind, even though I’m your brother, I won’t allow you to act recklessly. What exactly were you planning?"
Scared by his sternness, Rosalind shrunk back. Ever since she was a child, she’s always feared Mason’s anger the most.
"I gave her a little something to make her sleepy," Rosalind dared not look at Mason, bluffing, "Arranged for a few men to make a video with her, that’s all. Brother, I just can’t stand her flaunting herself in front of us all the time. Clearly, she’s nothing after leaving the Jacobs Family, yet she still dares to sue us and even forces us to drop the lawsuit!"
Mason looked at his sister in disbelief, a flash of disappointment in his eyes. Rosalind had always liked to trouble Elara, which he knew, but it was usually trivial matters, nothing serious. Every family has its squabbles; Elara might not be entirely blameless.
For the sake of family harmony, he had always turned a blind eye to those things. But he didn’t expect Rosalind to be so bold this time!
Drugging Elara, arranging for men to violate her, and even recording a video!
"Whatever her faults, she’s still your former sister-in-law, someone who left the Jacobs Family. Forcing her to make such a video and spreading it everywhere isn’t enough embarrassment for the Jacobs Family?"
Mason suppressed his anger, glaring at Rosalind, "Rosalind, at such a young age, when did your heart become so vicious!"
At this, Rosalind was displeased, retorting defiantly, "How am I vicious? It’s just making a video, making her unable to survive in Northgarde, not taking her life! She’s already getting under our skin, so what’s wrong with me teaching her a lesson?"
Mason’s face turned an ashen hue. He took several deep breaths before finally suppressing the raging fire within him, gritting his teeth, "Do you know why I dropped the compensation lawsuit?"
Rosalind paused, snorting, "She must’ve used her charms on you, right."
Otherwise, why would Cece be so upset?
Mason glared at her with a mix of exasperation and anger, "Because someone is protecting Elara! Recently, the Jacobs Group suffered a near-catastrophic blow and almost collapsed, all because of Elara! Her lawyer is no small fry. We’ve been warned not to mess with certain people, or the Jacobs Group won’t survive, got it?"
Rosalind’s face stiffened, "What? How could that be? Elara is just a wreck..."
Noticing Mason’s gaze, she quickly swallowed her curse and paused before saying, "Is that lawyer having an affair with her? Why protect her? Going against the Jacobs Family isn’t child’s play, brother."
Mason held his stern expression, saying heavily, "I don’t know. I’m still investigating that lawyer’s background, but President Dalton of Prospera told me this himself, it’s not fake. You should be thankful that nothing happened to Elara this time, or you would have destroyed the Jacobs Family!"
Cold sweat broke out on Rosalind’s back. She cursed Elara inwardly, that piece of trash, immediately registering for remarriage as soon as she was kicked out of the Jacobs Family. Now she’s even gotten involved with a lawyer. How shameless can she be?
But then she turned her mind to another matter.
Not to mess with certain people—then what about Elara’s dad...
Rosalind’s expression changed as she hesitated, unsure if she should tell her brother about this.
Mason knew her too well. One look at her gave her away, and he sternly demanded, "What else are you hiding from me? Spill it!"
Nervously swallowing, Rosalind confessed, "Brother, I just sent someone over to David Hales..."
Mason’s expression changed, "What? Why did you send someone there?"
"Mother previously instructed me to eliminate him completely, but I failed last time. I was planning to settle it once and for all..."
Rosalind spoke quietly, but seeing Mason’s face suddenly darken, she dared not continue.
"You’ve made a move on David Hales before? When?" Mason pressed coldly.
Rosalind replied quietly, "Just when you were taken to the police station those days..."
Mason felt as if he’d been struck by lightning, standing there dumbfounded. It finally clicked... it finally made sense...
Before, he thought he was being targeted by Brandon because of the lawsuit against Elara. But the case hadn’t even ended, why would Brandon try to ruin the Jacobs Family?
But now he understood, the warning "not to mess with certain people" from President Dalton wasn’t just about Elara, or not just Elara, but also included David Hales!
Since his release from jail, the Jacobs Group had abruptly faced a breach of contract from Prospera Group, happening without any warning. He didn’t even know where the problem lay.
Now he knew, all of this was because of his good mother and sister, who had acted against David Hales behind his back!
Mason looked at Rosalind with a steely expression, urging, "Quick, make a call, tell your people to come back!"
Seeing her brother’s unusual expression, Rosalind quickly took out her phone, but her people called her first. Rosalind hurriedly answered, hearing the panting voice on the other end, "Miss, we were ambushed. David Hales was taken by someone. Three of us are seriously injured, and one is dead..."
"What?" Rosalind looked up at Mason in disbelief, "Brother..."
The people she’d sent—one dead and three injured... How is that possible...
In the quietude, within their close proximity, Mason heard everything clearly. His mind went blank for a moment. Before he could react, his own phone started ringing.
