When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 78 - 0: Is Being Attractive Useful?
Jiang Shuyao didn’t mean to look down on anyone; it was just an instinctive self-protection mechanism.
Later, with some trepidation, Tang Xing asked her, "Yaoyao, what would you have done if someone really had been able to answer your question?"
Such an eventuality wasn’t impossible, but the probability was almost zero.
After all, the questioner was Pei Yan, and nobody was brainless enough to embarrass the birthday celebrant.
After the cake was brought in and everyone had sung the birthday song and blown out the candles, Pei Yan announced his departure without even taking a bite.
The crowd was suddenly surprised.
"Hey, Brother Yan, it’s no fun if you leave so early. You usually stay all night."
Pei Yan got up from the sofa, put on his coat, and half-jokingly said, "My little sister has strict parents; I need to get her home early."
Oh, so it was his sister.
Amidst the jeering, Pei Yan walked over to Jiang Shuyao and said, "Get up, let’s go home."
He could see that this girl had been restless to leave for a while.
"I’ll go with you guys," Tang Xing quickly chimed in upon noticing her condition.
She absolutely did not want that yellow-haired guy to send her off; it was awkward.
Jiang Shuyao naturally wouldn’t leave Tang Xing alone, so she told Pei Yan, "We can take a taxi back. You stay here and have some more fun with your friends."
It wasn’t too late at 8 p.m., and it was easy to get a taxi nearby.
Yet, he just gave her a casual glance, pretended not to hear her, and turned toward the door to leave.
Tang Xing was confused and tugged at Jiang Shuyao’s sleeve as a signal for her to follow.
Jiang Shuyao felt helpless, wondering if she was being a killjoy.
The night wind carried rain, and stepping out from the warm private room, the stark difference in temperature sent a chill through their bodies.
Pei Yan, tall with long legs, took large strides.
Jiang Shuyao and Tang Xing struggled to keep up under the umbrella, quickly falling far behind.
Girls could catch a cold if they got chilled, but he walked in the rain like nothing was the matter, not even bothering with an umbrella.
Inside the private room, Xie Anyu was completely frozen.
All night, Pei Yan hadn’t glanced at her, not even when they clinked glasses alone—his gaze lowered, his expression indifferent.
He wasn’t cruel enough to kick her out, but the coldness in how he treated her was like an ice cellar.
Why was this happening? Could his misunderstanding of her confession, thinking that she was an easy girl, have led to his disdain?
No, Xie Anyu grew restless and without bothering to put on a coat, dashed outside.
The night thickened.
The two girls stood on the street, waiting for Uncle Li’s car. There was a bit of traffic nearby in Seaside City, and it would take at least ten more minutes for the car to arrive.
As Xie Anyu ran out, Pei Yan was coming out of a milk tea shop, carrying two cups of hot drinks.
She was standing in a poorly lit area, and Pei Yan passed by her without noticing anyone there.
Xie Anyu took a deep breath, summoned her courage, and ran up to grab the hem of his clothing, "Pei Yan, can I speak to you for a moment?"
There was a second of silence in the air.
Pei Yan turned around, frowning, his icy gaze fixating on the hand at the hem of his clothing, his voice menacing, "Let go."
"Pei Yan," Xie Anyu’s voice tinged with a sob.
"Last time, I was too hasty and didn’t consider your feelings. I promise nothing like that will ever happen again, please don’t ignore me, okay?"
She sniffled, her eyes reddening, "And also, I really do like you, I like you very, very much."
A mocking expression crossed Pei Yan’s face as he looked down at her, "What exactly do you like about me?"
Caught off guard by his question, Xie Anyu’s face flushed with her heart racing.
She replied softly, "You, you’re good-looking, and—"
Her words were cut off by Pei Yan’s laughter, who countered, "Is being good-looking useful?"
