When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 934: Volunteering
Nathan Xavier gazed into her eyes, as bright as the stars, feeling as if a warm current was flowing through his heart. It was a strange sensation he had never experienced before.
But he didn’t want to disturb her too much; sometimes beauty emerges from a little distance.
"I should be going now, take good care of yourself." His voice, deep and pleasant, was accompanied by a gentle smile on his face.
"Okay."
"Goodbye."
Gia waved at him, "Goodbye."
Nathan turned and left, clearly in a good mood. Just looking at her felt like a breeze in spring.
He had originally wanted to take a few pictures of her; the scenery in the yard was great, and it matched her outfit well. But somehow, he didn’t dare to ask, feeling it might be a bit presumptuous.
Perhaps truly liking someone is just like this: though normally confident, you find yourself feeling overshadowed by their radiance.
In the evening, in the flower-blooming backyard of the Xavier Family’s house, wide open spaces were bathed in the afterglow of the sunset, painting half the sky red.
Rhiannon Xavier accompanied her mother at the stone table, eating pastries, drinking tea, and chatting...
They talked about past school memories, and Rhiannon enthusiastically shared, "Mr. Lowell was really nice, he treated everyone equally. Ziyan even wrote a little essay praising her! It was in the newspaper."
Mrs. Xavier listened intently, a smile on her face. "Time flies, doesn’t it? None of us are getting any younger, and Mr. Lowell’s not much younger than me."
"Yes, but she looks older than you. She worried so much about her students."
As mother and daughter chatted, Simon Xavier approached. Dressed in a brand-new navy blue coat, he walked briskly, the slanting rays of the sun casting a glowing halo over him.
"Father." Rhiannon greeted him promptly with a smile, "You’re home from work? Come, have a seat."
"Mm." The middle-aged man sat down beside them.
The daughter poured him some tea and listened as he spoke to her mother—
"In a few days, it’s the Lancaster Family patriarch’s 80th birthday. You should prepare to go to Argent. Our company is currently collaborating with Prestige Group, and they made it clear on the invitation that gifts are not necessary, only blessings. So we should just show up."
"Alright." Mrs. Xavier inquired, "Nathan should go as well, right? Have you told him?"
"He received an invitation too, so he’ll definitely be attending."
Rhiannon didn’t butt in, only thinking that if her brother was attending such a birthday banquet, he’d need a date, wouldn’t he?
At these events hosted by prominent families, there are usually dances at night.
She happily got up, "Father, Mother, you continue chatting. I just remembered I have unfinished business to attend to!"
"Go on then, go on." Her parents looked at her with eyes full of affection. She was, after all, the daughter they raised with love.
Rhiannon left, intending to find Nathan.
She’s forgetful, almost pushing Gia into the pond last time and her brother saw it happen—she’d completely forgotten about that incident!
She didn’t even remember the failed confession!
Before reaching her brother’s place, she saw his tall figure walking through the corridor.
So, she joyfully approached him—
"Brother! You’re going to the Lancaster Family’s birthday celebration. Mother said to take me as your date!"
Nathan stopped, a subtle smile playing on his lips, "Mother said that?"
She nodded confidently, "Yes!"
Nathan simply looked at her without speaking, then stepped aside to walk past her, intending to leave.
But Rhiannon grabbed his arm—
"Brother, I haven’t been to Argent in a long time, and I want to visit the boutique there to buy some bags! Take me with you? Father and Mother are going too, so we might as well attend as a whole family. It would also better demonstrate our family’s sincerity!"
