Chapter 501: Chapter 501: Forming an Alliance

Faye Turner shifted her gaze, meeting hers, aware that her visit wasn’t out of concern.

"Mom." Faye didn’t answer her question, only saying, "I’m recently working on something, investigating the truth about the car accident from 20 years ago and searching for Mr. Lancaster’s whereabouts."

Eliza Hayes was shocked when she heard this, "You suspect...the car accident was intentional?"

"Didn’t you ever suspect?" Faye turned to her, asking in return.

The middle-aged woman was stunned, shaking her head, then shaking it again, "Never..." But now, she felt she had uncovered a big secret.

But Eliza thought, finding Caleb was indeed extremely difficult, after all, so many years had passed.

"Is Caleb still alive?" Her voice trembled softly, almost afraid to think, "Victor Peterson wants to take his place, would he let Caleb live? Being alive is a burden, Faye, did you ask him? What did he tell you?"

"I did ask him." Faye told her, "And he indeed could express himself."

Eliza held her breath, waiting for her daughter-in-law to continue.

"He might have intended to act at that time, but... he didn’t make it in time; he was a step too late." Faye decided to tell her everything she knew.

She also hoped to get some other clues from her; only by becoming allies and combining their strengths could they possibly get closer to the truth more quickly.

Upon hearing her words, every cell in Eliza’s body was boiling, "He told you that?"

Faye nodded, "Regarding that car accident, after I get access to the files and finish analyzing everything if I still have doubts, I’ll come ask you again to see if you can recall anything." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Eliza’s mind was in turmoil, because the past was on the verge of being unearthed.

Caleb was still alive?

It was a question she had never considered. If he was still alive, then where was he? Had he been doing well all these years?

If he were alive... wouldn’t that be... wonderful?

She’d never felt life had such meaning!

It was evident she was a bit emotional; tears welled in her eyes, yet she tried hard to restrain herself. "Faye, I want to meet Victor Peterson." Her tone was pleading, hopeful.

Faye shook her head, declining her.

"..." Eliza was overwhelmed with words, but for a moment, she didn’t know how to defend herself.

Adrian Lancaster didn’t linger there for too long. After dinner, he played two games of chess with Milo, and then the night had already fallen.

"Mom, shall we have Mr. Kerr drive you home?" Faye suggested, "Will you come with us?"

Because she heard Eliza mention she’d sent the driver away, not wanting to keep him waiting, and she planned to take a taxi home.

Eliza was certainly willing, but seeing her son’s aloof expression, the light of hope in her heart dimmed again, and she said nothing.

"Come on, join us." Faye directly linked her arm with hers, fully understanding that only by improving her relationship with her mother-in-law could she get her to recall that car accident.

Generally, with such painful memories, most people are unwilling to bring them up again.

With that, everyone bid farewell to Chloe Gable and then took the elevator downstairs.

Eliza sat in the front seat of the Lamborghini, with Adrian Lancaster and Faye in the back, as Mr. Kerr first drove her back to the old residence.

No one spoke along the way; the atmosphere was a bit heavy.

Eliza sat in her son’s car, feeling somewhat like she was dreaming. Could this be considered a step forward in their mother-son relationship?

For all these years of debt, how was she supposed to make amends?

He was Caleb’s son...

Every time she thought of this fact, Eliza wished she could kill herself for being so foolish. How could she have been so heartless?
