Chapter 249: Chapter 249: A Chaotic Life

No matter how much Nanny Warren tried to persuade her, Eliza Hayes simply wouldn’t listen, and even went as far as kicking the meddling Nanny Warren out.

That night, Dylan Shaw came home very late again.

After Rachel Sherman returned home from work, her mother-in-law complained to her, "Been looking after your kid all day, my back’s killing me. Can’t you come home from work a bit earlier?"

"Thank you for your hard work, Mom." She attempted to take the child from her mother-in-law’s hands.

Her mother-in-law pushed her away, "Go, go, hurry up and make dinner, your dad just got back with groceries! We’re starving!"

By this time, it was already eight o’clock in the evening.

Rachel thought they had already eaten. Had they really not?

So, she glanced at her father-in-law reading the newspaper on the sofa and turned into the kitchen.

Exhausted, she cooked dinner for them, feeling more and more indignant with thoughts of Dylan’s messes.

When the heart’s completely broken, there’s nothing left worth clinging to.

Though it’s undeserved, there’s no helping it; she made a mistake getting married, so she must cut her losses in time.

Girls should be confident and independent.

Rachel indeed transformed herself day by day; she used to cry and fall into depression, but not anymore.

Gather the evidence, stabilize the job, save some money, then divorce!

Just as dinner was ready, Dylan Shaw came back, almost stumbling at the door, yet another day drunk.

"Dylan!" His mother quickly dropped her chopsticks and got up to support him, "Another event tonight? Drinking this much—is your body holding up?" Her words showed full concern.

His father also quickly got up to make him some sobering tea.

Rachel sat at the dining table with her child in her arms, still holding her chopsticks, just watching Dylan.

"Rachel! You heartless woman! Your husband is this drunk, and you’re not worried at all? Can sit still?" Her mother-in-law turned to her and angrily shouted, "Get the bed tidied up! Let Dylan go rest!"

Rachel found the commotion to be a headache.

She got up holding the child and went into the bedroom, which was already tidied, but knowing he slept with another woman outside, she just wanted to trash him.

Dylan Shaw staggered into the room, pushed his mother out, and slammed the door shut.

Today alone, he had submitted four resumes without a single company accepting him, which was a huge blow!

Angrily glaring at Rachel holding the child in front of the bed, he steadied himself and pointed his finger at her—

"Rachel, are you satisfied now? I lost my job, so you’ll have to live on nothing with June!"

"Living on nothing won’t just be us, will it? What about that woman out there with you?" Rachel’s lips curved upwards, "I’m actually curious, will she break off with you because you lost your job?"

Fire practically burned in Dylan’s eyes as he looked at her, "That’s nonsense! Don’t accuse me from your moral high ground! You didn’t catch me in the act, so just shut up!"

No longer caring, Rachel didn’t want to argue with him.

"Damn Faye Turner!" He cursed again, even grabbing a nearby vase and smashing it to the ground, "Can’t stand seeing others doing well! Rachel!! Look at the friends you associate with!"

Even to this point, he refused to recognize he had a problem.

Rachel held the child tightly, afraid he’d scare the child into tears.

The madder things got inside with Dylan, the more urgently the knocking outside became. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw were incredibly worried.

In the end, the child did cry out in fright, and Dylan didn’t stop his rampage, smashing everything smashable in the bedroom.

That night was anything but peaceful, and Rachel was emotionally spent.

Ten more days until her probation period was over, just endure a little longer. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Early next morning, around nine o’clock.

Faye Turner was in her office, feeling somewhat uneasy, holding onto a huge secret she hadn’t even shared with Adrian Lancaster.

Suddenly, the phone rang, startling her slightly, and when she picked it up to check, it was an unknown number.

An ominous feeling overcame her, as she slid to answer and lightly held the phone to her ear, hearing Eliza Vance’s cold voice—

"Girl, I’ll give you an address. I must see you within half an hour."

With those words, the other party ended the call.

The dial tone rang in her ear, soon followed by a text message with a specific location sent to Faye Turner’s phone.
