When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 133: Yi Ru 17
"Yeah, thank you, Yi Ru." Li Siyu wiped her tears. Yi Ru had already done so much for them; she couldn’t keep clinging to her. She had to find a way on her own.
"I’m glad you’ve figured it out. I won’t wait here for Teacher Wang. I have some things to take care of." Yi Ru wasn’t used to such overly emotional scenes. She patted Li Siyu’s shoulder and left the hospital. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
How Li Siyu would explain things to Teacher Wang when she returned was Li Siyu’s problem to worry about. But at least after taking care of this, Yi Ru felt a great weight lift from her heart.
Putting Teacher Wang’s matter aside, Yi Ru threw herself into her hectic work. While her hours were flexible, when things got busy, they got *really* busy. To rush out a new collection this time, for instance, Yi Ru practically lived at the factory.
「A month passed in a flash.」
Yi Ru had already submitted all the design drafts for the new collection. Now, it was up to the factory to work overtime to produce them.
It was now time to record the new season of the dating show, and Yi Ru absolutely had to be there. So there she was, bustling around backstage. Seeing so many people wearing her designs for the show, Yi Ru suddenly felt it was almost like putting on a fashion show.
Tan You: "Have you ever thought about putting on a show?"
Yi Ru was tempted, but ultimately shook her head. "No. As long as Moyan keeps releasing new designs, I don’t see much difference between having a show or not. It’s really just about prestige."
Tan You didn’t press her further. She glanced at the chaotic yet orderly backstage area, then at the staff who had come with Yi Ru, and suddenly smiled. "Your two assistants are about to be overwhelmed."
Yi Ru went over to help a woman zip up the back of her dress, multitasking as she spoke to Tan You. "That’s why I came backstage, isn’t it? I can’t just stand around doing nothing."
The woman Yi Ru was helping froze for a moment. Then, after getting a clear look at Yi Ru’s face, she grew excited. From her gaze alone, Yi Ru understood. ’This woman has her eye on me for a match.’
She knew her looks. She had the classic kind of face that older people adored—gentle, elegant, poised, and graceful. Now that she had completely let go of her past obsessions, her aura was even more unique.
"The waistline is a little loose here. Let me tighten it for you," Yi Ru said with a small smile. After the woman agreed, Yi Ru took the dress and sat down at a nearby sewing machine.
The woman didn’t go far, instead sitting down next to Yi Ru. "Are you a staff member at the station? I don’t see an ID badge."
Yi Ru smiled. "No, I’m the designer. My name is Yi Ru."
"Yi Ru, Yi Ru. What a lovely name. You designed all these clothes? So talented." Lin Yun’s eyes lit up, her gaze filled with even more admiration for Yi Ru.
"Yes. Ma’am, you’re too kind. You’ve kept yourself in great shape. You must pay a lot of attention to your fitness, don’t you?" Yi Ru’s attitude was very friendly. ’I’m not a contestant,’ she thought, ’so there’s no harm in talking to a contestant’s parent.’
"Of course! I run every morning and go to the gym three or four times a week," Lin Yun said, a little proud. She glanced at Yi Ru’s fingers—no ring. Her mood brightened even more.
Her younger son was the one participating today, but that was fine—she had an older son, too! And her older son was just as outstanding. Lin Yun now regretted not signing him up as well. Thankfully, he had come to the studio today.
After altering the dress for Lin Yun, Yi Ru didn’t talk with her any longer. Instead, she got up and went to the female contestants’ dressing rooms. To maintain the show’s novelty, the female contestants didn’t know each other; they hadn’t even met before going on stage.
They were currently in individual small rooms. Yi Ru went through them one by one, only relaxing slightly after confirming they had all changed into the Moyan outfits.
"Where did you find these contestants? They’re all so impressive—their looks, figures, and careers are all outstanding." Finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, Yi Ru walked over to the audience seats. Just then, Zhou Yan finished confirming the schedule with the floor director.
"Of course. I haven’t been wasting my time all these years. With a bit of searching, I can pull together enough contestants for the first few episodes." Zhou Yan smiled smugly and took the water Yi Ru handed her. "I’m counting on this show to make my big comeback."
"’Comeback’ is an exaggeration. You’ve always been popular. This is about taking your career to new heights," Yi Ru corrected her.
Zhou Yan laughed. "Alright, ’to new heights’ it is. I’m going to go check with the sound engineer."
Watching Zhou Yan hurry toward the side of the stage, Yi Ru couldn’t help but shake her head. She personally disliked putting her life on public display, but Zhou Yan was different. She seemed to thrive on a stage like this.
As the floor director began the countdown, Yi Ru instinctively sat up a little straighter. By this time, the male contestants had already gone to the second-floor observation room, leaving their six groups of family and friends in the audience.
There were three people in Lin Yun’s group, and next to them sat a young man who looked to be around thirty.
Lin Yun glanced in Yi Ru’s direction and whispered in the man’s ear, "See that one? The prettiest one in the front."
Ji Wang glanced over. "I noticed her as soon as I came in."
Lin Yun was a little regretful, but then felt a surge of relief. "I asked. Her name is Yi Ru. She’s not married and doesn’t have a boyfriend. She’s 25, the perfect age for you. And she’s talented, too."
Ji Wang frowned. "Why does that name sound familiar?"
Ji Wang’s grandmother smiled. "Your father came home the other day and mentioned a young woman who came to see him about her teacher. I think her last name was Yi."
Ji Wang understood. "So that’s what it was. No wonder Dad insisted I come watch the live recording today."
Lin Yun was exasperated. "You! You need to take more initiative. I can’t believe she knows your father. That’s even better! We’ll have the perfect excuse to invite her to dinner after the show."
"You have to seize this amazing opportunity!"
Ji Wang glanced at Yi Ru again, then lowered his gaze, lost in thought.
The old lady chimed in with support. "I can tell your father really admires her, and she doesn’t seem to have a problem with the medical profession. If you two hit it off, you should give it a try. Doctors might have a slow start, but we’re a blue-chip stock! Anyone with good judgment can see that."
This made Lin Yun even happier. "Your father and I have the exact same taste! The moment I saw her backstage, I thought you two would be a perfect match. A good woman like her is in high demand. If she really wanted to find someone, she could do it in a minute. See how many people are staring at her?"
Ji Wang glanced at Yi Ru one more time. "I know what I’m doing."
Seeing the look on her older son’s face, Lin Yun knew there was a chance. She stopped trying to persuade him. Young people had their own way of thinking. As long as they were taking it seriously, there was no need for the older generation to nag and push them every step of the way.
