Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Yi Ru 16

"So not only did you treat Director Ji to dinner, you also asked him to help find outstanding male contestants?" After dropping Director Ji off, Yi Ru called Zhou Yan from the car. Zhou Yan was exceptionally surprised on the other end of the line.

"Mm-hmm," Yi Ru told the driver to head to the airport, then leaned back in her seat, relaxed. "I think Uncle Ji is quite easy to talk to. He’s not as unapproachable as you said."

"Alright then, ’Uncle Ji’ it is," Zhou Yan knew what was important. "Here’s the plan: I’ll deliver the registration forms to our uncle tomorrow. It’s better to get this done sooner rather than later. You just go and handle your own business."

Yi Ru protested, "Now he’s ’our uncle’?"

"Hey, we’re so close. Your uncle is my uncle; it’s all the same." Zhou Yan laughed it off. "Besides, you’re going back to convince your teacher to come here for treatment. Don’t I need to help you build that connection?"

Yi Ru said helplessly, "Thanks a lot. I’m so busy. After bringing Teacher Wang over, I still have to contact the clothing factory. I already promised them a sponsorship, and I’m not one to just go through the motions."

"Fine, you worry about your things, and I’ll handle mine." Zhou Yan chuckled. "You’ve actually given me an idea. You said we could do a doctors-only special, but we could also do other professions, like teachers, police officers, and so on."

Yi Ru washed her hands of it. "It’s your show. You figure it out with your team."

She took a red-eye flight back to Z Province. Yi Ru didn’t even go home, instead visiting Teacher Wang’s house in the middle of the night. She just wanted to get things settled quickly so that Teacher Wang could start treatment sooner, and she could focus on her own career with peace of mind.

Teacher Wang was already asleep, but when her husband heard that one of her students had come to visit, he still went in to wake her.

Yi Ru didn’t beat around the bush. "This afternoon, I went to see Director Ji, the head director at the G Province Tumor Hospital. After reviewing your scans and lab reports, he recommends that you be admitted for treatment as soon as possible. If it’s convenient for you, you can go handle the admission procedures as early as tomorrow."

Teacher Wang’s husband was stunned. "G Province? I’ve heard it’s incredibly difficult to get a bed there."

Yi Ru glossed over the details. "I had a friend help with the introduction. Director Ji said that you’re currently in the mid-stage. It’s not the worst-case scenario yet. The sooner you start treatment, the sooner you can have peace of mind."

Teacher Wang hesitated. "Did you have to pull a lot of strings? I don’t know how I could ever repay you..."

Yi Ru raised a hand. "You’re overthinking it. As long as you get treatment soon, that will be the best repayment for me. You’re so thin now, it breaks my heart to see."

Teacher Wang’s husband thanked her profusely. "Then we’ll have to shamelessly accept your help. I’ll pack our bags tonight. Your teacher took an early retirement for medical reasons after her diagnosis, so now she can focus completely on her treatment."

Yi Ru smiled. "Okay, then I’ll come pick you up tomorrow morning, and we’ll go over together."

Yi Ru didn’t go back home. Instead, she booked a hotel near Teacher Wang’s residential complex for the night. The next morning, she, Teacher Wang, and her husband were on a plane to G Province.

It felt like she was constantly flying back and forth these past few days. ’Hopefully, things will calm down a bit once Teacher Wang is admitted,’ she thought.

They arrived at the tumor hospital without a hitch and completed the admission procedures just as smoothly. While Teacher Wang’s husband accompanied her to her check-ups, Yi Ru casually strolled over to Director Ji’s office.

"Uncle Ji? Are you busy?" Peeking around the doorframe, Yi Ru’s eyes curved with her smile.

Director Ji glanced at her, then his eyes shifted to the stack of registration forms on the side. His tone was unreadable. "No wonder you and Zhou Yan get along so well. You have the same way of doing things."

Zhou Yan had been waiting outside his office before work even started this morning, calling him "Uncle" with such familiarity it was almost overwhelming. Director Ji felt that if he hadn’t accepted that stack of registration forms from her, he would have seemed like some unforgivable monster.

Yi Ru wasn’t about to take the fall for Zhou Yan. "Uncle Ji, matchmaking is its own kind of good deed. It can’t compare to you saving lives, of course, but if we can provide an opportunity for people, why not?"

Director Ji snorted. Yi Ru winningly pushed a fruit basket toward him. "My teacher just finished her admission procedures. I’ll have to trouble you to look after her. Are you thirsty? Can I peel an apple for you?"

"I’m not thirsty or hungry. Did you come looking for me just for this?" Director Ji’s irritation was worn down by Yi Ru’s persistence. ’Honestly, when a pretty young woman is standing in front of you with her eyes curved in a smile, who could possibly resist?’

"That’s one reason," Yi Ru didn’t keep him in suspense. "But I was also thinking, it’s almost time for lunch, isn’t it? Let me treat you. That’s the more important matter."

The moment she said that, a burst of laughter was heard from outside. Doctor Ji was at his wit’s end. "I still have patients. Let’s do lunch another day; I’m really busy. Also, take the fruit back with you. Doctors can’t accept gifts from patients or their families."

"Alright," Yi Ru didn’t press him. "If you don’t want to eat, we won’t eat. But you have to accept this."

Seeing Doctor Ji about to glare at her, Yi Ru said with righteous confidence, "I’m your niece. I’m not a patient or a patient’s family member. I’m just visiting my uncle and bringing him a fruit basket. No one could find fault with that."

"Besides, how much could this fruit possibly cost?"

Doctor Ji sighed. He picked up a lab report from the side and started shooing her away. "Are you done? If you’re done, then hurry up and go. Just standing there in front of me is getting on my nerves."

"Alright, alright, I’m going, I’m going." Yi Ru knew to quit while she was ahead. "I’ll get going then. I’ll come see you again later!"

With that, Yi Ru left Doctor Ji’s office. She went to check the hospital room and saw that Teacher Wang and her husband weren’t back yet. Only Teacher Wang’s daughter was inside, tidying up their belongings. Yi Ru caught her eye.

Li Siyu looked a little confused. Yi Ru handed her a deposit receipt. "This is the deposit slip. You hold onto it for now. If it’s not enough, just let me know."

She then handed her an envelope. "Use this to buy Teacher Wang some nice food. Help her build up her strength."

Li Siyu glanced at the amount on the deposit receipt. "I can’t take this. My mom would never agree..."

Yi Ru’s tone was gentle, but her stance was firm. "This is nothing to me. Just consider it a fulfillment of the bond I share with Teacher Wang. She’s the most important thing right now."

Li Siyu wiped her eyes. "Yi Ru, I never understood why my mom cared so much about her students... She didn’t even tell anyone when she got sick..."

Yi Ru’s nose stung with emotion. She turned her head to hide it. "Alright, I can’t help with much else; this is all I can offer. Just don’t think I’m being crass."

"How could I?" Li Siyu said seriously. "I’ll consider this a loan from you. I will pay you back in the future. I won’t hide it from you; my parents haven’t been able to save much money over the years..."

Yi Ru understood what she meant. "Okay, but there’s no rush. You can pay me back slowly in the future. I won’t press you for it. Family is what’s most important. You can always earn more money later."
