When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase-Chapter 664: Mu Ke, Do You Like Me? (Part 4)
After looking around, Sheng Jiayu couldn’t find a single style she liked. Unexplainably, she began to miss those two sets of clothes Mu Ke gave her in the United Kingdom—one she left at the hotel and didn’t retrieve, the other sitting in the dirty laundry basket in the bathroom.
Sheng Jiayu pressed her lips together. It was her own wardrobe, but she couldn’t find one style she liked—how sad is that!
Turning to leave, Mu Ke had already tidied up the kitchen and was standing by the entrance changing shoes. Seeing Sheng Jiayu come out, he waved the car keys in his hand at her: "Let’s go."
Sheng Jiayu nodded and followed.
They went downstairs together, got into the car, and headed straight to the hospital.
By the time they reached the hospital, it was already late, and the nurse on duty told Mu Ke that Xu Qingru had already gone to sleep.
Sheng Jiayu didn’t go in to disturb her, just stood at the door for a while before returning to Mu Ke’s office.
"I heard from the doctor that my mom will need to stay in the hospital for at least half a month. I want to prepare a single bed and stay here with her."
Mu Ke glanced up at her: "According to regulations, it’s not allowed, but you are the eldest Miss of the Sheng Family. Revealing your identity wouldn’t make it impossible, but it’s best not to."
"Then I..."
"You can use my rest room anytime; everything inside is clean."
Sheng Jiayu opened her mouth, wanting to say something but then swallowed it. She lowered her eyes and remained silent for a long time before speaking: "Mu Ke, I haven’t finished what I wanted to say this noon."
"Hmm."
"You..."
Sheng Jiayu began, then stopped, raised her head, and looked steadily at the man opposite her: "Mu Ke, do you like me?"
One second... two seconds... ten seconds...
The office was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Mu Ke didn’t speak, just quietly watched Sheng Jiayu.
If it were an average young girl in this situation, asking such a question and getting no response, she would have been blushing furiously, not knowing what to do. But Sheng Jiayu wasn’t; she just calmly met the man’s gaze.
She believed in her judgment, but that wasn’t the point. The point was she was not young anymore; long past the age for romance. She just wanted to know the result and then resolve it.
After a full five minutes, Mu Ke finally spoke: "Hmm."
This "hmm" was an acknowledgment.
Sheng Jiayu pressed her lips together and spoke: "Why do you like me? Mu Ke, we haven’t known each other for long. Do you really think you understand me? Since you’re my doctor, you surely know my story from my mother—I am a divorced woman, and you are a medical authority. We are not suitable."
As Sheng Jiayu spoke, Mu Ke didn’t respond, just listened as she continued: "If I’m being honest, I don’t want to engage in another relationship. I don’t need a man in my life, so please, give up. We can be friends, but if you think it can’t work, please leave my life."
Sheng Jiayu felt her words were clear enough—a refusal this evident, even a fool would understand.
Mu Ke suddenly chuckled softly.
He had always been aloof, his face almost expressionless, and now that he smiled, it gave people a bit of a chill.
A brief chuckle, and Mu Ke quickly reverted to his aloof demeanor: "First, whether I understand you or not is my concern; you don’t get to decide. Secondly, does a divorced woman not deserve the right to be loved? Miss Sheng, this is discrimination. Lastly, you can refuse me, but choosing to be your friend or pursuer is my right, and you cannot intervene."
