When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase-Chapter 657: Sheng Jiayu vs. Mu Ke (7)
The two of them had dinner outside. Sheng Jiayu didn’t eat much; she didn’t have an appetite. Mu Ke set down some milk and instructed, "Drink the milk and rest early."
"Thank you."
In the middle of the night, Sheng Jiayu was awakened by the urgent ringing of the phone. Half asleep, she grabbed the phone, "Hello?"
"Miss Sheng, Madame has fallen ill and has been admitted to the hospital."
The anxious voice on the other end instantly dispelled all of Sheng Jiayu’s drowsiness. She hurriedly jumped out of bed, her face turning pale instantly. The next second, someone turned on the light in the room.
Mu Ke stood at the doorway, frowning, "What happened?"
Sheng Jiayu wasn’t wearing pajamas, only some light clothing, but she didn’t care anymore, with a pale face, she said, "My mom, my mom was taken to the hospital."
Mu Ke’s frown deepened as he quickly walked over to Sheng Jiayu’s side, grabbed the clothes she wore earlier in the day and put them on her, "Hurry, get changed, we’re going back."
From changing clothes and leaving the hotel to boarding a flight back home took less than three hours in total, which was the fastest they could manage.
They were also fortunate enough that there was a plane flying from another country to B City, with a layover in London, allowing them a late-night flight back home.
Before boarding the plane, Mu Ke made a call to a colleague at the hospital to inquire about the situation.
"Don’t worry, Aunt is fine, she has stabilized."
Sheng Jiayu wasn’t a doctor, so she couldn’t understand the medical jargon, but Mu Ke did. Strangely, his cool, calm voice was particularly reassuring at that moment.
"Really...really?"
"Trust me."
Sheng Jiayu gradually calmed down, glancing out at the pitch-black sky, she pursed her lips, "Thank you."
Mu Ke managed a rare smile.
Sheng Jiayu lowered her head. The night was deep, yet she didn’t feel sleepy, perhaps still shaken from earlier events. Suddenly, she felt a strong urge to talk.
Sheng Jiayu slowly began, "My father cheated on my mother when she was pregnant, with Jianan’s mother. Later, my mom found out about it and also learned that the other woman was pregnant. She’s a cultured person, with the pride and integrity of an intellectual, and despite being pregnant herself, she insisted on divorcing my father."
Mu Ke seemed surprised that she would suddenly confide in him like this, a trace of surprise flickered in his eyes, but then he listened quietly.
"Perhaps the shock was too great during her pregnancy; my mom’s heart wasn’t good to begin with, and it left her with health issues. For many years now, she’s been like this. The doctor said as long as she doesn’t suffer any major shocks, it’s actually not a problem. But I’ve been unfilial, and recently gave her another shock, which has caused her health to decline over the past year."
Mu Ke listened quietly. He didn’t ask what the shock was, just remained silent. Only after Sheng Jiayu finished speaking did he lightly say, "I’ve seen Aunt’s medical records. Don’t worry, it’s not as serious as you think. She needs rest; mental problems require mental remedies."
Sheng Jiayu turned her head to look at Mu Ke, opened her mouth to say something, but then closed it.
Actually, Sheng Jiayu wasn’t clueless about why Mu Ke was by her side. She understood.
Ever since she divorced Xin Ke, her family had been arranging blind dates for her. Mu Ke was probably one of them, but she refused all those explicit setups, so it turned out like this, some sort of psychological counseling.
But she really didn’t have even the slightest interest in that aspect now. She had shamelessly loved someone, and it had exhausted all her enthusiasm.
