When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 86: Forbidden Love
After the meal, the two old men walked out of the private room with their arms around each other’s shoulders, each leaning on a cane.
"Blaze did a great job arranging this. Look how happy those two old men are," Mason Frost said to May Ford.
"Next time, let’s invite Mr. Fairchild and his family for a meal. As the younger generation, we should be more considerate of them. You know what they say, old men are like children—they need a lot of love and attention too."
May Ford agreed, then turned to Blaze Fairchild, who was a step behind. "A home really needs a woman’s touch, doesn’t it, Blaze?"
The hand Blaze Fairchild had on Luna Axton’s waist gave a gentle squeeze. He agreed, "Yes, Auntie May."
May Ford patted Blaze Fairchild’s shoulder. She was like an elder, or even more, like a mother.
"We’re all so relieved to see you doing so well now. Live a good life. Luna is a wonderful young woman."
"Mm," Blaze Fairchild nodded, saying nothing more.
"You should bring Luna over to our place for dinner sometime, too."
"Okay."
Luna Axton could see it clearly—under the lights, the gleam in Blaze Fairchild’s eyes scattered. They were glistening with unshed tears.
Only then did she understand why Blaze Fairchild had invited the Frosts to dinner.
This was the first time Grandpa Fairchild had left Fairchild Estate since she and Blaze had married. The old man never socialized.
Blaze’s life was a straight line between his company and Fairchild Estate.
The two of them, grandfather and grandson, seemed to lead stable, wealthy lives.
But in reality, they had locked their own hearts away.
They didn’t let anyone in, nor did they venture out.
But now, because she had entered their lives, everything was changing.
In that moment, Luna Axton also understood why Grandpa Fairchild was so fond of her. It was because she had brought about a change in Blaze’s life, helping him to open his heart.
The two old men lingered by the car, reluctant to part. Only after they watched the Frosts’ car drive away did Blaze help Grandpa Fairchild get into their own vehicle.
It was plain to see that Grandpa Fairchild hadn’t had his fill of the evening.
"What’s so great about a long, wide car like this? Old Frost’s van is much better. It’s nice when it’s full and crowded."
Thinking of the Frost family’s harmony and unity, he grew vexed.
"It’s all my fault for spoiling Rosalind so much. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this situation. If your mother were still here, and your sister had grown up, our family would have... six people now."
Grandpa Fairchild held up a trembling hand, forming the number six. He, too, longed for a harmonious family, for happy gatherings.
Seeing Grandpa Fairchild like this, Luna Axton thought he was about to cry and had a tissue ready for him.
But after hearing what he said next, she quietly tucked the tissue back into her purse.
Julian Fairchild said, "In the future, you two can’t just have one child, Lucky. You need to have more, at least three. That way, you can divide your love evenly, and you won’t have two of them getting jealous and competing for attention."
"Look at the Frosts—they have three children. It’s like a three-legged stool, that’s what makes relationships stable. You really do have to learn from history."
Neither Luna Axton nor Blaze Fairchild responded, letting the old man indulge in his vision of the future.
The black stretch Lincoln navigated the bustling streets of Valoria before pulling into Fairchild Estate.
As soon as Luna Axton got out of the car, she started toward Crimson Hall. She reminded Blaze, "Grandpa had some wine. Make sure he gets cleaned up for bed, and have a maid keep an ear out while he’s sleeping."
Julian Fairchild was elderly, so he had staff with him twenty-four hours a day.
Luna Axton walked through Fairchild Estate, now shrouded in twilight. Orange-yellow lamps lit the paths, casting a quiet, cool glow.
Walking alone, her thoughts were exceptionally clear.
She had barely spoken during dinner, her mind preoccupied.
Only now did she allow herself to carefully replay the events of the evening.
Mason Frost had said that after Susie passed away, his younger sister also disappeared.
Then Grandpa Fairchild choked on some water and started coughing. Blaze was busy taking care of him, and the two of them started bickering.
That was when May Ford, sitting beside her, had lowered her voice to remind Mason Frost, "Don’t bring up our little sister. Can’t you see how upset our little brother looks?"
Mason Frost had mumbled, "Our sister has been gone for so many years. He’s a grown man, what is there that he can’t let go of?"
Adriana Frost was the young lady of the Frost family.
Mrs. Fairchild passed away, and Miss Frost disappeared.
Blaze had told her about his mother. That was twenty-three years ago.
Russell Frost cared deeply for Miss Frost. She had been gone for many years, but Russell couldn’t let it go. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
’It’s perfectly normal for a brother to be unable to let go of his missing sister.
But she had clearly seen Russell Frost’s reaction whenever Adriana Frost was mentioned.
His back would hunch, his expression would go slack, and his eyes would turn hollow. It was clearly a look of profound grief.
He only snapped out of it, as if his soul had returned to his body, when Grandpa Fairchild called out to him and asked about his work.
I’m afraid Russell Frost’s feelings for his sister went beyond the boundaries of sibling affection.
Twenty-three years ago... feelings that crossed a boundary... a forbidden love.
And here I am, Luna Axton, twenty-two years old, with no father.
My mother’s name is Jenna Axton. The young lady of the Frost family was named Adriana Frost.
And just today, my mother told me that my biological father was one of the most outstanding men in the world.’
All at once, a thought struck Luna Axton.
’Today, Russell Frost didn’t bring a partner. And throughout the meal, no one mentioned his family. He must not be married.
An unmarried man, an unmarried woman... but they have a child.
And I... am that child.’
Luna Axton suddenly felt as if a giant boulder was crushing her chest, making it hard to breathe.
A tingling numbness spread through her limbs, and her head began to tremble uncontrollably.
"Ah... ah..." She tried to make a sound, hoping someone would notice that something was wrong.
But though she tried and tried, no sound came out.
Luna Axton couldn’t breathe, and her throat was constricted.
She had no choice but to brace herself against a wall and shuffle slowly toward a small pavilion, needing to sit down and catch her breath.
Luna Axton sat in the pavilion, lengthening her breaths, once, twice, again and again.
’Right now, I’m so glad I paid attention when Ms. Belle taught me how to breathe properly.’
As the minutes and seconds ticked by, her breathing finally evened out, and the uncontrollable trembling in her head subsided.
After a few more deep breaths, she tried to stand up, only to find that her legs had no strength at all.
Even with her medical training, she was terrified by her unresponsive legs.
Panicked, she tearfully called Blaze Fairchild.
"Can you come get me at the pavilion?"
When Blaze Fairchild’s voice came through the phone, the sob in her own voice became more pronounced.
"What’s wrong? Where are you? I’m on my way," Blaze Fairchild said, his voice instantly laced with worry when he heard her crying.
"I’m on the path between Pinehurst Estate and Crimson Hall. You’ll see me when you get here."
"Okay, don’t hang up. I’ll be right there."
Phone still in hand, Blaze burst out of Pinehurst Estate and sprinted toward Crimson Hall.
Luna Axton pressed the phone to her ear, hearing only the rush of the wind and Blaze’s heavy, ragged breaths.
Before long, Blaze appeared on the path.
He was wearing only a dress shirt and a sweater vest, his sleeves rolled up, and he was running toward her as fast as he could.
"How are you? What’s wrong?"
Without even stopping to catch his breath, he squatted in front of her, his face etched with concern.
His hands were ice-cold as they touched her forehead, cupped her face, and then checked her hands and knees for any injuries.
The moment Blaze arrived, Luna Axton felt her breathing ease, a sense of relief washing through her.
"I just suddenly felt unwell."
"And now?"
"My legs are weak. I can’t walk."
"Back to Lakeside Manor?"
Luna Axton managed a smile through her tears and nodded. "Okay."
Blaze slid one arm around her shoulders and the other under her knees, lifting her effortlessly.
Luna Axton instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. His familiar scent was deeply reassuring.
