Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Compensating Luna

Rosalind Fairchild remained silent. ’If this is a trap set by Blaze...’

’I can’t let him succeed. When Kai gets in trouble, it’s a slap in my face as his mother.’

’And if Miles is dismissed, the distance between me and Russell will grow.’

’That’s why I have to cover for our son.’

Rosalind Fairchild patted her son’s arm, comforting him. "Don’t worry. Your father and I will handle this for you."

"Rosalind, we can’t..."

Just as Miles Jacobs was about to speak, Rosalind stopped him with a look and pulled him out of the room.

Once they were back in their room, Miles Jacobs finally spoke.

"Rosalind, what he did was illegal. It’s a crime. We can’t cover this up."

"We’ll cover it up for as long as we can. We just need to send him abroad as soon as possible." Rosalind already had a plan. ’Blaze won’t hurt me in the slightest.’

"Send him abroad?" Miles felt like he was treading on thin ice.

Rosalind’s expression hardened, and her tone became serious.

"What other choice do we have? The Jacobs Family only has this one child. And you’ve worked so hard to get where you are today. Are you going to give it all up?"

The rapid-fire questions struck Miles’s heart one by one.

Miles collapsed onto the bed. He knew very well that sending him abroad was the only option they had.

After a long internal struggle, Miles finally spoke.

"Let’s get ready and go to Fairchild Estate to see your father. Blaze only listens to his grandfather. Only your father can stop Blaze and make him back off."

Everything had happened so suddenly. As much as he hated relying on the Fairchild Family, he had no other choice.

Rosalind was right. Only by asking his father-in-law for help could they solve this.

He stood up and hugged Rosalind, who was applying skincare products, from behind.

"I’m so powerless on my own. Thank god I have you."

He loved the sense of ease about Rosalind, how she never panicked no matter what happened.

Rosalind said, "Miles, we’re husband and wife. We’re in this together. Only when you’re well can I be well."

Miles was touched by her words.

He came from a rural background; marrying a wealthy heiress like Rosalind was his great fortune.

Rosalind stared at their reflection in the mirror. ’If only the one holding me was Russell. Unfortunately, now that Adriana Frost is back, Russell can’t show up. We used to be inseparable, like shadows. If we were to meet now, everything I’ve worked for would be for nothing, and my heart would feel like it was being pierced by a thousand arrows.’

’I won’t allow that to happen.’

’The man I can’t have, Adriana Frost can forget about having him either.’

Just like before, as soon as the car carrying Blaze Fairchild and Luna Axton left the Fairchild Estate, Rosalind Fairchild’s car appeared at the main gate.

This time, however, the gate guard didn’t open the gate for her.

The guard stood politely beside her car, bowing as he explained, "Miss Rosalind, the Old Master has given orders not to let your car pass."

Rosalind’s face darkened. "You just wait."

Right in front of the guard, she called Julian Fairchild, but the call wouldn’t connect.

Frustrated, she forcefully ended the call, found Uncle Foster’s number in her contacts, and dialed it directly.

The call connected quickly. "Miss Rosalind," came Uncle Foster’s respectful voice.

"I’m at the gate of the Fairchild Estate."

"I’ll tell the Old Master right away."

A short while later, the main gate of the Fairchild Estate slowly opened.

Miles Jacobs didn’t say a single word the entire time, merely watching in silence.

’I can’t believe my father-in-law is serious. He said we weren’t allowed to come to the Fairchild Estate before Luna gives birth, and he meant it. Rosalind is his own daughter! She grew up here in the Fairchild Estate. How could he be so heartless? Businessmen prioritize profit. That’s probably the reason.’

Julian Fairchild didn’t waste any of their time, getting straight to the point. "I know you’re here because of Kai."

Rosalind huffed. ’I knew it was Blaze’s doing.’

"This time, Kai really went too far, teaming up with Director Yates’s daughter from the Health Bureau to start rumors and cyberbully Luna during a live stream."

As Julian Fairchild spoke, the two younger family members didn’t dare interrupt.

"If Luna had gone down the same path as your sister-in-law, Blaze would never have recovered. I was the one who tacitly approved calling the police."

The couple was stunned. This was completely unexpected.

’How did Kai get involved with someone from the Health Bureau? That doesn’t match what Kai told us. Could we have gotten it wrong? Was it not Blaze who had someone release the news? No, that’s not the point. The important thing now is to protect Kai.’

As the head of his family, Miles Jacobs kept a clear head. "Dad, I need to ask for your help. Help me send Kai abroad."

Julian Fairchild frowned, displeased. "Miles, you cherish your career. For all these years, you’ve maintained a careful distance from the Fairchild Estate. I understand all that."

"But do you have any idea how far-reaching Kai’s involvement is now?"

Julian Fairchild’s question made Miles blush with shame. He... didn’t know.

He knew about the matter with the health system.

He just never expected Kai to get involved with that girl.

"You’re thinking about your Kai, but I have to think about my Evergrow Group."

"Blaze only has me, his grandfather, left. He finally got married and started his own little family. I want what’s best for him, and I want my great-grandchild to be born healthy and safe."

It was rare for Miles to feel so ashamed he wished the ground would swallow him whole. Sitting before his father-in-law, he felt utterly disgraced. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Dad, I was being inconsiderate. Today..." Miles stood up. "Please, just pretend I was never here. I’m sorry, Dad. It was already my great fortune that you allowed me to marry Rosalind. I’ll be leaving now."

This was one of the things Julian Fairchild admired about Miles—he always kept a clear head and viewed matters impartially.

It was a quality his own daughter, Rosalind, lacked.

"Miles, if Kai manages to get out of this completely unscathed, and you still plan to send him abroad, I, as his maternal grandfather, can arrange for all the expenses and connections."

’Unscathed?’

Miles gazed at the snow outside the window, his heart growing even colder.

’It doesn’t matter who released the news. What matters is that someone else has leverage over us now.’ He knew exactly what was waiting for him.

’Kai probably won’t be going abroad for another ten years or so.’

"On Kai’s behalf, thank you, Dad." Miles bowed. ’This will probably be the last time I see my father-in-law.’

His career was like snow on a thin branch, ready to fall at any moment.

"Rosalind, you, come with me to the study."

Inside the study, Julian Fairchild’s face was exceptionally stern.

Rosalind had never seen her father like this and couldn’t help but feel her heart pound. ’Why did Dad call me to the study alone?’

"I know all about you drugging Blaze."

’So that’s what this is about.’

She toyed with her manicure, saying nonchalantly, "Well, didn’t I find a good granddaughter-in-law for you?"

"Twisted logic!" Julian Fairchild slammed his hand on the desk. She was simply incorrigible.

"As compensation, I will be transferring ten percent of my shares to Luna."

"I don’t agree!" Rosalind refused. ’My brother became a monk, which makes me the first in line to inherit! I was just waiting for Dad’s inheritance, waiting to get my hands on the shares so I could push Blaze out. If Dad gives the shares to Luna Axton, what inheritance is left for me? How can I possibly compete with Blaze?’

Seeing his daughter’s fierce reaction, Julian Fairchild’s eyes narrowed, seizing the opportunity to control her.

"Rosalind Fairchild, you watch yourself. For every time you harm Luna or Blaze, I will transfer more of my shares to Luna’s name."

It just goes to show that the older the ginger, the spicier it is. As Rosalind Fairchild left the Fairchild Estate, her heart ached with sharp, stabbing pains.

「Concordia Medical Hall」

Luna Axton sat across from Mason Frost.

Today was her first day with Dean Frost. Even though she and Paige were the only interns, everyone followed the original plan and rotated supervisors.

Dean Frost was used to taking notes on his own computer, so her task was simply to write out prescriptions.

However, she held herself to a high standard, recording patients’ symptoms in her own way to build up experience.

Mason Frost was taking a patient’s pulse. The entire consultation room was silent, making the commotion at the door clearly audible.

Luna Axton saw that Mason Frost was unperturbed, continuing to take the pulse with calm focus.

She, too, pulled her wandering thoughts back and focused on her work.

Only after the patient had left did Mason Frost stand up.

"Luna, take a break. Get up and stretch a bit. I’m going to see what’s happening at the door."
