Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Are You Coming to the Annual Party?

In the room, only a dim, orange night light was on, and soft snores came from the bed.

Luna Axton was sleeping soundly, nestled against a pregnancy pillow.

In the soft light, Blaze Fairchild crouched by the bedside.

He took the ring from its box and carefully slipped it onto Luna Axton’s finger.

His movements were gentle and slow, for fear of waking her.

After winning the auction, he had a professional jeweler resize the ring.

Now on her ring finger, it made her hand look all the more slender and beautiful.

After admiring it for a moment, Blaze Fairchild went to look at the gift Luna Axton had mentioned in her message.

It was a burgundy tie with diagonal champagne-gold stripes.

’The color scheme is actually quite fitting for winter.’

Blaze Fairchild smiled in satisfaction, thinking it would be perfect to wear to the company’s annual gala the next day.

His gaze fell on the small, soundly sleeping face on the bed. ’Did she go out today just to buy a tie?’

’She must be bored on her days off at home. When the new year holiday begins, I can take her to explore the areas around Valoria.’

「The next morning」

Luna Axton, who had been sleeping like a log, woke up with a full bladder.

Blaze Fairchild had moved her morning yoga and Pilates routine to the afternoon.

That way, she could sleep in a little longer in the morning.

"Luna Axton."

Blaze Fairchild was already fully dressed and ready to leave for work.

There was no movement from the person on the bed, so he had no choice but to wake her.

He called her name, but there was no response.

He had to take action.

Luna Axton groggily opened her eyes to see a mischievous face smiling down at her.

The culprit was pinching her nose, making it impossible for her to breathe.

"Ugh, you woke me up again."

Her voice, still thick with sleep, was lazy and soft. Hearing it, Blaze Fairchild found himself lowering his own voice, a smile playing on his lips.

"I need to ask you something."

Luna Axton stopped mid-stretch, her eyes filled with confusion. "Hm?"

"The tie you bought—how do you think it looks with this outfit?"

’Since when did Blaze Fairchild start caring about his outfits? Doesn’t he always wear monotonous black, white, or navy blue to work?’

’But since he’s asking for my opinion, I guess I’ll reluctantly get out of bed and have a look.’

The suit was a bespoke, handmade creation, and on Blaze Fairchild, it projected an air of natural, exceptional charisma.

The tie added a festive touch to the dark-colored suit, dispelling any somberness. It was eye-catching and immediately lifted one’s spirits.

What’s more, Blaze Fairchild had a perfect physique—long legs, a firm butt, and broad shoulders, all topped with a distinguished face.

He was like the perfect male lead drawn by a manga artist. Beautiful things were always a feast for the eyes.

Who wouldn’t do a double-take for a handsome, distinguished man who was tall and long-legged?

Luna Axton nodded affirmatively. "It looks good."

She took a step back and handed the tie back to Blaze Fairchild, intending to crawl back into bed and go to sleep.

But Blaze Fairchild scooped her back, his large hand grasping her waist. He pressed his forehead against hers and demanded,

"You tie it for me. I’ve been teaching you for days; isn’t it about time I checked on your progress?"

’Ugh, this distance is dangerously close. My heart just started racing.’

Luna Axton pushed against his chest. "Stand still."

Blaze Fairchild did as she asked.

She began tying the tie just as Blaze Fairchild had taught her. As she draped it around his neck, she finally noticed the ring on her own ring finger.

A pear-shaped pink diamond.

"What’s this?" Luna Axton didn’t know anything about diamonds or jewelry, but she thought it was beautiful, especially since it was pink.

"I won it at the auction yesterday. Do you like it?"

"It’s very pretty. And I happen to love pink."

Blaze Fairchild smiled. ’Could it be that I bought it precisely because you love pink?’

"It has a beautiful name—the Lucky Star. Just like our Lucky."

Luna Axton’s eyes lit up, a brilliant sparkle dancing in their depths. "I absolutely love it. Thank you."

Seeing her so happy made Blaze Fairchild’s chest feel light. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Kiss me."

Without a moment’s hesitation, Luna Axton wrapped her arms around his neck, stood on her tiptoes, and turned to kiss his cheek.

But unexpectedly, Blaze Fairchild tilted his head, and her lips landed on his instead.

His arm tightened, pulling her closer, and the peck deepened into a kiss.

’Hmph! Men are so full of tricks.’

It wasn’t until Luna Axton whimpered that she couldn’t breathe that Blaze Fairchild finally let her go.

The kiss left her a little weak, and since she hadn’t been fully awake to begin with, she started to feel drowsy again.

She lay back on the bed, watching the tall man in the mirror as he tied his own tie.

She grumbled internally. ’If you were just going to tie it yourself anyway, why did you have to wake me up?’

Blaze Fairchild saw her reaction in the mirror, and his lips curved upward in amusement.

"I’m heading to work. The company’s annual gala is tonight, so I’ll be back late. You can go to sleep; don’t wait up for me."

’Who said I was going to wait for you?’

Though she retorted in her heart, she verbally replied, "Okay."

Downstairs, Blaze Fairchild handed another brocade box to Mrs. Creed, telling her to give it to Jenna Axton, then left for work with a spring in his step.

’After the annual gala, work would start winding down, and he’d have more time to spend with her.’

’Lucky would be born mid-year. He had to carefully plan which projects to prioritize so he could free up the second half of the year to be with the baby.’

Blaze Fairchild planned his work for after the new year as the car headed toward Evergrow Group.

Today was the company’s annual gala, and everyone was busy getting dressed up for the formal event.

"Who do you think will be the lucky one to dance with the CEO this year?"

"Don’t I wish it was me every year? I’ve been hoping for five years and have never been chosen."

"Last year it was one of the older ladies from the cleaning department. Just look at the windows in our building this year—they’re polished so bright they’re blinding. I bet a lot of people had to get new glasses!"

"Whatever! Even if I can’t get the CEO, I should at least win a house or a car. Every year I watch other people win the grand prize or the first prize, and I’m green with envy."

...

Everyone was enthusiastically discussing the grand and first prizes.

Yvonne Rhodes had no interest in such worldly possessions. Full of confidence, she sat before a mirror, applying her makeup and shaping her eyebrows.

Just last night, she had accompanied Ian to the charity auction gala, where he had won a pink diamond ring.

She’d even heard it was worth three hundred million.

’Pink diamonds may be rare, but she preferred rubies—brilliant and bewitching.’

’Pink is a bit childish, but if it was a gift from Ian, she would gladly accept it.’

’She’d love anything Ian gave her.’

’Ian had said at the time that it was a thank-you gift. And among those around him, the one who had sacrificed the most for him was, of course, her.’

’Without a doubt, the diamond ring was meant for her.’

’Today, Ian would thank her in front of the entire company and place the ring on her finger.’

Just fantasizing about the scene made Yvonne Rhodes feel giddy.

’And if she got to dance with Ian too... she couldn’t even imagine how blissful she would be.’

It was Joy Coleman’s first time attending the annual gala, so she had bought a simple white gown especially for the occasion.

She wore super-glittery eye makeup that would be incredibly photogenic under the lights.

’It’s the Evergrow Group’s annual gala. I wonder if Luna will come, since she’s the boss’s wife?’

She had been so busy lately that she hadn’t even had a chance to chat with Luna.

[Luna, are you coming to the gala today? Is your husband bringing you?]

Luna Axton was bored out of her mind waiting for news, wondering if she had passed yesterday’s interview.

An entire day had passed, and she was growing restless.

She couldn’t focus on anything, not even in the mood to flip through the manga she had received.

Seeing Joy Coleman’s message, she immediately sent Lindsey a video call.

As soon as the call connected, Luna Axton said with a hint of displeasure, "Lindsey, you finally have time for me."

"I’m sorry, girl. My boss took on a medical case, and there was so much research to do. I was completely swamped, but I finally organized all the materials and submitted them yesterday."

"What medical case?"

’There’s still been no news about Mom’s case. Blaze Fairchild hasn’t told me the outcome, either. I wonder what happened in the end?’

"The one involving the Hepatology Hospital. I figured since Mrs. Axton was already discharged, there was no need to tell you. That hospital..." The matter was subject to a confidentiality agreement, so Joy Coleman could only say, "...is not very reputable." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Oh." So it was her mother’s case. "Mom’s recovering really well, so it’s fine. You saw her on New Year’s Day when she video-chatted with Ms. Brooks. They were having such a great time talking."

Lindsey had gone back to Kensing for New Year’s Day to be with Ms. Brooks and Mr. Coleman, and the three adults had finally been able to "meet" each other via the screen.

"So, are you coming to the gala?"
