When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 3: Get the Marriage Certificate Tomorrow
"Let her do what she wants."
The man’s cold, utterly indifferent voice came through, even though the woman was carrying his child.
Kyle Joyce was stunned for a few seconds, but since this was the CEO of Evergrow Group, it wasn’t exactly a surprise. "Sir, she can solve your problem."
The long fingers tapping on the keyboard paused for a second, but only for a second. "Continue."
"Old Master Fairchild is pushing you to get married, and your blind dates are scheduled out for the next two months. Since we have a ready-made candidate—a buy-one-get-one-free deal, killing two birds with one stone—I believe this highly efficient solution is feasible."
The solemn and sacred institution of marriage was, to them, like a collaborative project.
"Additionally, I’ve already completed my investigation. Miss Axton and her mother depend on each other, so her family situation is simple. Her mother is in the Hepatology Hospital and is in urgent need of money."
Kyle Joyce couldn’t have been more obvious: money could buy a wife and, with her, a ready-made child who belonged to the CEO. Moreover, this was a woman who wouldn’t require any of his time or energy. She could be managed with money, and money was the one thing the Fairchild Family had in abundance.
This way, Old Master Fairchild would stop nagging the CEO, and the CEO wouldn’t have to waste time on blind dates just to keep Old Master Fairchild happy.
Her objective was clear. As long as the price was right and her conditions were met, she would be obedient and wouldn’t cause any trouble.
One sought wealth, the other sought peace. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Wasn’t this a cleaner, more efficient option than marrying a rich young lady from a family with a complex web of relationships?
He had to get married and have a child eventually. Luna Axton was the optimal solution.
"Is she smart?"
"The top science scholar in the Kensing Municipality college entrance exam. She was only eight points shy of a perfect score."
"My schedule."
A pleased expression crossed Kyle Joyce’s face. He knew the CEO’s schedule by heart. "Sir, you’re free tomorrow from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM."
Blaze Fairchild’s gaze finally shifted, landing on Kyle Joyce. "I’ll leave it to you. Get the marriage certificate tomorrow."
"Yes, Sir."
Kyle Joyce left the office and immediately began planning the "CEO’s Marriage Registration" project for the next day.
Because of her part-time jobs and caring for her mother, Luna Axton couldn’t get back to her dorm before curfew. So, she rented a room in a farmhouse near the back gate of the university.
The landlady was an elderly woman who lived alone. The rent was cheap, there were no disturbances, and best of all, no curfew.
She had finished her two part-time jobs at four in the morning and only got four hours of sleep.
Luna Axton brushed her teeth, wrung out a washcloth to wash her face, filled a thermos with hot water, grabbed her books, and headed to campus.
For breakfast, she bought two of the cheapest vegetable buns from the cafeteria.
With her top scholar’s score, she had been admitted to the nation’s most prestigious medical school.
But in an eight-year clinical program that let students bypass the stress of graduate and doctoral entrance exams, none of her classmates were starting from a low bar.
The living embodiment of their textbook was lecturing passionately on the stage, and Luna Axton was listening intently.
She needed to win the national scholarship, which meant she had to study harder than anyone else, absorbing knowledge every second she could.
So, when her phone vibrated in her coat pocket, she didn’t feel it at all. The fabric was too thick, and she was too focused. It wasn’t until the break between classes, when she took out her phone to check her work schedule, that she saw three missed calls.
Worried it might be another doctor from the Hepatology Hospital, Luna Axton stepped out of the classroom and found a quiet place to call back.
"Hello, this is Luna Axton."
"Miss Axton, our CEO wants to marry you. Please prepare yourself."
"I’m busy."
Assuming it was some new type of scam call, Luna Axton swiped her finger and ended the call.
I’m busy!
Kyle Joyce stared at his phone where the call had been disconnected. He was stunned for a few seconds. Was he not direct enough on the phone?
In that case, he would just have to go to the university and get her himself.
He could find the course schedules for every major and their corresponding classrooms on the official Valoria Medical College website.
Luna Axton wished a day had forty-eight hours instead of twenty-four. She had no time to waste on scam calls and immediately put the matter out of her mind.
She used the short break to digest the material the professor had just covered.
The moment the bell rang, Luna Axton hurried out through the back door of the classroom.
"Miss Luna Axton."
Someone called out to Luna Axton at the foot of the academic building. The man was wearing a standard suit, but his aura was different from that of a critical illness insurance salesman.
"Can I help you?"
"I’m here to take you to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a marriage certificate."
Luna Axton froze, remembering the earlier phone call. "With your CEO?"
"Correct. The biological father of the fetus you’re carrying." Noticing more and more students coming downstairs, Kyle Joyce suggested, "Let’s talk somewhere else to avoid unnecessary trouble. You can name your terms."
"Fine." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
For Luna Axton, hesitating for even a second would have been disrespectful to the one million dollars.
These were people who could easily offer a million dollars and had found her the day after she discovered she was pregnant; their power was clearly extraordinary.
If he was willing to take responsibility, she could have this child.
Just yesterday, she had convinced herself to go through with the procedure and had even scheduled the appointment.
But last night, she’d had a dream of a baby with a round face and big eyes, gnawing on its fingers and calling her "Mama" in a soft, milky voice.
She tried her best not to think about it, but she couldn’t suppress the reluctance in her heart. She was constantly trying, but severing the connection was difficult.
After some negotiation by the small lake on campus, Luna Axton and the man’s representative, Mr. Kyle Joyce, reached a prenuptial agreement.
"Miss Axton, the contract has been drafted. Please review it, and if there are no errors or objections, please sign." Kyle Joyce handed her the contract and a pen.
Luna Axton took it and smiled. "You came prepared?"
Kyle Joyce replied, "A win-win for both sides."
"A win-win. I like that." She hope Mom can win her battle against her illness, too.
Having been burned by contracts in her part-time jobs before, Luna Axton read this one especially carefully.
The terms of the contract were clear.
She was to bear this child for the Fairchild Family and fulfill all the duties of a wife and mother. In the event of a divorce, she would not be entitled to any of the man’s assets, aside from child support.
In return, the man would cover the medical expenses for her mother, Jenna Axton, and find a suitable liver donor.
Luna Axton recalled the man’s cold indifference that night, how he’d shown no regard for her feelings, and corrected, "The liver donor—I want it to be from a legitimate source."
"Of course."
Luna Axton signed without further hesitation. "It’s signed."
As she handed the contract back, her heart was a mix of complicated emotions.
There was no doubt that, given her current situation, marriage was her best option.
In their short time together, Kyle Joyce, a man who had met countless people, could see that Luna Axton was a very pure person. Or perhaps, she had been raised too well, leaving her without much worldliness, tact, or a guarded heart.
She was inexperienced with the ways of the world, which also made her easy to manipulate through her vulnerabilities. She was pure and beautiful, with a clean heart. A man without considerable power wouldn’t be able to protect her.
Kyle Joyce glanced at his watch to calculate the time. "I’ve already made the arrangements. Bring your documents and come with me to the Civil Affairs Bureau now. As soon as the CEO arrives, you can register. The whole thing should take about ten minutes."
"After we register, is there anything else?"
