The moment Yvonne Rhodes heard that, a chill ran down her spine, and her heart ached as if it had been stabbed.

Hearing Grandpa Fairchild announce Luna Axton’s status with her own ears felt completely different from hearing about it from her aunt.

Blaze is married.

If what her aunt speculated was true, then the one who slept with Blaze that night should have been her. Not this woman in front of her, with her short hair and untrimmed eyebrows.

Yvonne Rhodes gritted her teeth. This woman in front of her is the one who stole her Blaze.

The fact that Grandpa Fairchild made the introduction proved that he, as the family patriarch, had accepted Luna Axton as his granddaughter-in-law.

Her hands, hanging at her sides, clutched her dress as she called out resentfully, "Hello, Sister-in-law."

Luna Axton sat up straight. "You don’t have to call me Sister-in-law. You look more mature than I do, so I should probably be calling you Sister Yvonne. You can call me Luna, like your aunt does, or..."

Out of the corner of her eye, Luna Axton saw the corners of the man’s lips opposite her curve upward into an enigmatic smile, leaving her unable to guess what Blaze Fairchild was thinking.

A wave of panic hit her, and her expression became extremely unnatural, but she held her ground and finished what she was saying. "You could also call me Young Madam."

Yvonne calls him Blaze, but she was not interested in hearing her call her Sister-in-law. It sounds so fake and scheming, making her sound like some mistress Blaze is keeping on the side.

If she hadn’t noticed the fleeting look of displeasure on Blaze Fairchild’s face when he saw Yvonne, she might have actually fallen for her act.

Why insist on wearing a gown for a banquet over here in the evening just to show it to Blaze Fairchild? And she picked dinnertime to show up, of all things.

It’s all just an excuse. She can clearly see the defiance and sorrow in Yvonne’s eyes. She clearly just came here to stake her claim and show everyone how close she is to Blaze Fairchild.

Blaze Fairchild retracted his gaze, picked up the glass of water beside him, took a small sip, and polished off the last of the rice in his bowl.

Seeing that Yvonne Rhodes had no comeback, Luna Axton also looked away and went back to her food.

Just a moment ago, she was thinking Yvonne was quite the beauty with a great figure, but it turns out she’s just an airhead.

She folded over a simple little comment about a title. Or perhaps Yvonne is just so in love with Blaze Fairchild that the news of his marriage has left her too stunned to know how to respond.

Only Julian Fairchild looked at the two young women with a kind expression on his face.

He maintained the proper etiquette of a host, addressing Yvonne Rhodes. "Yvonne, we’re still eating. If you have work to discuss, please go wait for Blaze in the drawing room."

Yvonne felt a pang of disappointment that he didn’t even ask if she’d had dinner.

But she was a master of keeping up appearances, forcing a bright smile. "It’s nothing, Grandpa Fairchild. I just came to ask Blaze if this gown would be appropriate."

Blaze Fairchild had finished eating. He wiped his mouth, tossed the napkin aside, and though his voice was mild, his words carried the authority of a man in charge.

"Knowing what to wear for which occasion is a fundamental skill. If you need my approval for something like this, you can hand in your resignation. Evergrow doesn’t employ useless people."

Luna Axton, who had been pretending to eat while actually listening in, suddenly paused.

Evergrow?

Evergrow Group, as in the Evergrow Group where Joy Coleman is doing her internship? Could it just be a company with the same name?

Luna Axton wasn’t sure. She’ll message Joy later and ask her what her boss’s name is.’

Yvonne Rhodes could no longer keep her composure. The courage she had worked so hard to summon was utterly crushed by Blaze Fairchild’s declaration that Evergrow didn’t employ useless people.

Especially since it was in front of all the servants and Blaze’s new wife, she felt a humiliation unlike any she had ever known. She bit her lip. "Yes, Blaze. I’m going home now."

Seeing Yvonne’s crestfallen expression, Julian Fairchild ultimately couldn’t bear to see one of the younger generation so heartbroken.

"Foster, please see Yvonne out. And have her take the hashima, donkey-hide gelatin, and saffron that just arrived."

Those were originally ordered along with bird’s nest, fish maw, and sea cucumber to help Luna regain her strength, but Dr. Miller said she can’t eat them while pregnant.

He and Blaze were two grown men; they didn’t eat these things. They were perfect for placating Yvonne.

That girl, Luna, seems a bit quiet and dull, but when she starts talking... Between her and Blaze, those two sharp tongues would be more than enough to make Yvonne cry.

As men, he and his grandson Blaze couldn’t be too blunt; they had to save face for Miles Jacobs.

But Luna was different. She had just married into the family. If she said a few words and made Yvonne cry, then let her cry. No matter how much Miles Jacobs doted on his niece, how could he not know what her true intentions were?

Miles Jacobs stood to lose more face from this than they did.

If Yvonne’s character and moral conduct were up to snuff, wouldn’t he have noticed? Why else would he be arranging for a man as busy as Blaze to go on endless blind dates?

Yvonne Rhodes turned and stormed off, so lost in her emotions that she forgot to even thank Grandpa Fairchild.

As if she cared about some hashima and donkey-hide gelatin. What she wanted was Blaze’s love, to have his children and spend a lifetime with him. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

She had spent half the day choosing this gown, and her makeup alone had taken two hours.

She had come to Fairchild Estate intending to make Luna Axton see the writing on the wall and retreat. A woman who had simply slept her way into the family shouldn’t expect to be paraded around in public.

She never expected Blaze to be so harsh, his words so cruel. He treated her like just another Evergrow employee, with zero regard for her uncle and aunt’s dignity.

It wasn’t as if she’d never been to Fairchild Estate before. Blaze had never been one for conversation, but not once had he made her feel this miserable.

And that Luna Axton... Who did she think she was, telling her to call her Young Madam? She’s not a servant at Fairchild Estate.

Yvonne Rhodes returned to the Jacobs family’s villa.

"Yvonne, you’re back! Hurry and eat."

Yvonne Rhodes didn’t stop, simply hiking up her skirt and running upstairs barefoot.

Rosalind Fairchild and Miles Jacobs watched her enter and go straight upstairs without a word of greeting, and the two of them exchanged a bewildered look.

Miles Jacobs was particularly taken aback. He had just returned from a business trip and was still in his jacket, a pair of thin, silver-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.

Yvonne hadn’t seen her uncle in over a month. Why didn’t she even call out to him? She used to be the most excited whenever he came home.

"What’s the matter with her?"

"She’s wearing a gown. I bet she was out with her girlfriends and had a falling-out. I’ll go see." As she spoke, Rosalind Fairchild put down her chopsticks and made to get up.

Miles Jacobs grabbed her by the wrist, his voice softening. "Finish your meal first. Let her be by herself for a while. She’s twenty-six. She can’t run off crying at every little thing and expect her aunt to chase after her and coddle her."

Rosalind Fairchild sat back down, pouting. "She has no parents. You’re always away on business trips, and I’m here raising two children alone. If I don’t coddle them a little, how will we manage?"

"It’s been hard on you." Miles Jacobs patted her hand. "On this trip, I met with Special Envoy Frost..."

When Rosalind Fairchild heard the name "Special Envoy Frost," her heart leaped as if a switch had been flipped inside her.

The kind, elegant, and composed face of her dear Russel immediately appeared in her mind’s eye, and she didn’t hear another word Miles said.

"Special Envoy Frost’s father is getting on in years, so his position is going to change," Miles Jacobs said cryptically.

"That’s wonderful news!" Rosalind Fairchild grabbed Miles’s hand, her voice filled with excitement. "This is wonderful, Miles. Your time has finally come."

Miles Jacobs was deeply moved as well. He placed his other hand on top of hers, clasping them together. "Yes."

Thirty years. He had gone from a minor clerk in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Deputy Director-General, and now there was still room for advancement. His time truly had come.

"I’ll open a bottle of champagne to celebrate," Rosalind Fairchild proposed.

"Alright. Just the two of us." The normally abstemious Miles Jacobs agreed immediately. He was genuinely happy.

But what Rosalind Fairchild was thinking was, This is wonderful. Russel is coming back. I’ll be able to see him again.

As for the unhappy Yvonne upstairs, she had no time to worry about her. Let her cry it out.
