When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 114: What to Note When Pursuing Your Bestie
After returning from taking care of the formalities, Luna Axton was exhausted. She said a quick word to Jenna Axton and headed back to Lakeside Manor to rest.
Blaze Fairchild had been waiting for her in the living room of Lakeside Manor, his dark eyes fixed worriedly on the world outside the French doors.
The moment Luna Axton’s figure passed through the moon gate and appeared at Lakeside Manor, he rose to his feet and went out to greet her.
He stood in the foyer, watching her walk with unsteady steps, her body swaying and her hands hanging limply at her sides.
Blaze Fairchild paused, not wanting to disturb her. He took out her indoor slippers and set them down, then stood to the side and waited.
It took her nearly ten minutes to cover a distance of just a few steps. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Luna Axton’s eyes were vacant, as if her very soul had been stolen away. Her eyes brimmed with moisture, and tears streamed down her cheeks in a steady line.
Her pitiful state was like that of a kitten abandoned in the dead of winter, utterly unable to survive the bitter cold.
Blaze Fairchild gently embraced her. She murmured, "I want to sleep."
He had no choice but to release her, swallowing the words of comfort he’d been about to say.
Behind her, Jenna Axton watched Luna with a sorrowful expression.
She had followed Luna all the way to the foyer of Lakeside Manor. Only after her daughter was inside did she nod to Blaze Fairchild and turn to leave.
Blaze Fairchild sighed silently as he watched Jenna Axton’s retreating figure, then turned to follow Luna Axton, who was already heading up the stairs.
He followed silently behind Luna Axton, ready to catch her, afraid she might misstep and fall.
Upstairs, Luna Axton stood by the bed and slowly took off her jacket and pants. She lifted the covers and slid underneath.
Blaze Fairchild stood by the bed, silent.
The long shape huddled under the covers made no sound at all.
He stood there for a moment before turning to go downstairs.
When Blaze Fairchild returned with a thermos and a box of soft tissues, he heard the sound of her sobbing as he reached the bedroom door.
He placed the thermos between the two pillows and said gently, "I’ll be in the study. Call me if you need anything."
With that, he left the room.
However, after pretending to go to the study, he stealthily tiptoed back to the bedroom door.
He was afraid Luna Axton wouldn’t be able to cry freely if she knew he was there, so he created the illusion of being in the study.
Blaze Fairchild sat down on the floor, opened a book on how to raise boys, and began to read.
Luna Axton spent the entire day in the bedroom. Her eyes were red-rimmed, and she didn’t say a word.
Blaze Fairchild brought all her meals upstairs and made sure she ate.
She didn’t come downstairs until noon the next day.
「Meanwhile」
After returning to Crimson Hall from Lakeside Manor, Jenna Axton sat in a daze for a long while before finally pulling out her phone to book a flight to Kensing for the fifth day of the new year.
After buying the ticket on an app, she saw the bank transaction notification and tapped into her text messages.
’The balance is low.’ She had transferred the vast majority of her money to Luna’s account to cover her tuition and living expenses for the new year.
’After Lucky is born, I’ll have to transfer even more money to Luna.’
’Even though Luna is married and having a child of her own, she’ll always be my baby.’
’The Fairchild Family’s wealth is their own. Until Luna starts earning her own money, I should contribute to raising my grandson. It’s my duty as a grandmother to do this for my daughter and her child.’
’The hardships and struggles I went through can’t be repeated with my darling daughter.’
As she exited her messages, she noticed an unread text from an unknown number.
"Wishing you a happy new year, full of joy and good health."
The message had been sent at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day.
’There’s no name or greeting. Was it from a former student, or did someone send it to the wrong number?’
’I haven’t stood in front of a classroom in over two years, and Luna only reactivated this phone number for me after I got out of the hospital.’
’After so long out of touch, most people probably assume I don’t use this number anymore.’
Jenna Axton ignored it, leaving the anonymous well-wishes to languish among her unread messages.
She sent her flight details to Ms. Brooks. After a brief discussion, they went ahead and checked in for the flight.
With everything settled, Jenna Axton rose and began to pace aimlessly around Crimson Hall.
Seeing Luna so heartbroken made her own heart ache.
「The Frost Residence」
Russell Frost stared at the text message that had received no reply.
’Adriana’s number is registered in Kensing. Could she have been living in Kensing all these years?’
’Kensing City is where Adriana was born. My parents adopted her from an orphanage there.’
’The first year Adriana disappeared, I went to Kensing City to look for her, but I found no trace.’
’I even pulled some strings. From start to finish, she was the only person with the name Adriana Frost.’
’If she was living in Kensing City, how could I not have found any information about her?’
’That could only mean one thing: she had changed her name.’
’I didn’t use a name in the text because I didn’t know if she still went by Frost.’
’Is Adriana not replying because she’s already guessed it’s me?’
When their tea on New Year’s Eve was over, he had seized the opportunity while getting her coat to grab the phone she’d left in the pocket of her down jacket.
He’d quickly called his own number, then deleted the call from her log.
’I was lucky. Adriana’s phone didn’t even have a password.’
’More than twenty years have passed, and she’s still not used to passwords. She’s always preferred things to be direct and simple.’
’Adriana is ignoring my texts, and her phone is off when I call. I’ll have to go to Kensing City in person after the holiday.’
’This time, I’ll run a search for her former name: Adriana Frost.’
’I’m dying to see what kind of life she’s been living behind my back all these years.’
After spending a day in her room, Luna Axton managed to pull herself together and face the world again.
’Mom is leaving Valoria for Kensing on the fifth. I need to spend the time we have left together happily.’
Seeing her finally come downstairs, Blaze Fairchild asked, "Feeling any better? Are you hungry? Is there anything you want to eat?"
"I’m all better now." She forced her stiff facial muscles into a smile. "I am a little hungry. Where are we having lunch?"
"At Grandpa’s." Blaze Fairchild, still unsure of her mood, spoke even more gently than usual. His eyes never left her, watching for any change in her emotions.
The moment Luna Axton stepped into Pinehurst Estate, she heard a burst of carefree laughter.
Wyatt Kingston was in the living room.
He and Grandpa Fairchild must have been talking about something hilarious, because he was clutching his stomach, his face flushed from laughing so hard.
As soon as he saw the two of them, his smile vanished. He propped one hand on the back of the sofa, vaulted over it with ease, and jogged toward them.
"Hey, Ian, my man! What took you so long? Grandpa Fairchild and I were just talking about..."
Blaze Fairchild cut him off, his expression cold. "Why are you here?"
Then he spotted Luna Axton behind Blaze Fairchild. He dodged around Blaze and stood properly in front of Luna.
"Hello there, ma’am." He was being the picture of politeness.
Luna Axton nodded in reply. "Hello."
Only then did he turn to answer Blaze Fairchild. "Grandpa Fairchild called my old man to ask where he bought his strawberries, so I came to drop some off for him."
"You delivered them, and you’re still here," Blaze said with a cold look, trying to shoo him away.
"So I’m not worthy of a single meal at the Fairchild estate?" Wyatt Kingston shot back indignantly.
Blaze Fairchild ignored his sarcastic tone.
Wyatt Kingston’s eyes darted about as an idea struck him. He’d finally found his opening.
He sidled up to Luna Axton again, his tone endlessly eager. "So, ma’am, about wooing that friend of yours... any tips for me?"
