Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Having a Sweet Romance

It had never occurred to Luna Axton that Blaze Fairchild didn’t like sweets.

He had researched sweets and pastries with such enthusiasm, all just to make them for them to eat.

For such a busy man, Blaze Fairchild was being incredibly thoughtful.

Luna Axton would be lying if she said she wasn’t moved.

The moment the soft, moist sponge cake entered her mouth, Luna Axton was overcome with bliss.

"This is delicious," Luna Axton said, her face a picture of pure enjoyment.

"It really is delicious. I never imagined Blaze was so talented when it comes to cooking, too."

Beside her, Grandpa Fairchild held a fork, savoring it with narrowed eyes.

"If it weren’t for you, Luna, your grandpa wouldn’t have gotten the chance to taste his own grandson’s desserts."

Hearing this, Luna Axton quickly explained, "That’s not it, Grandpa. Blaze was planning to make them for us anyway."

"Oh, you." Julian Fairchild smiled meaningfully. ’If I don’t help my grandson out, how will their relationship ever progress?’

"Blaze wanted to make them for you. You were craving sweets but had to control your sugar intake, so that’s why he started learning all this."

"Even this was all part of Blaze’s plan. He brought all these ingredients to my kitchen this morning, planning to make it for you tonight."

’Was it really made just for me?’

Luna Axton looked at the man in the kitchen, his expression serious as he sliced strawberries.

The light shone on his well-defined face, casting a soft glow over his sharp features.

As if sensing her gaze, he looked up, and their eyes met.

He smiled, his handsome lips curving upwards.

Luna Axton felt ripples spread through her heart, bringing with them a sudden, inexplicable joy.

Seeing this, the wrinkles at the corners of Julian Fairchild’s eyes deepened, and his heart felt sweet with happiness.

’There’s a chance, there’s a chance! It takes two to tango. My grandson is finally getting a taste of sweet romance.’

Luna Axton was the first to look away, lowering her head to eat a strawberry and hide the disappointment in her eyes.

Theirs was a contract marriage, a marriage of convenience due to the pregnancy. ’Of course Blaze isn’t doing this for me.’

Blaze Fairchild had stressed multiple times that what he cared about was the baby’s health.

He was doing all this to prevent her from eating junk food outside, which could affect Lucky’s growth and development.

At this thought, Luna Axton suppressed those budding feelings.

’Blaze is a grown man. Why would he go to all this trouble just because I wanted to eat something?’

’She was accomplished, yes, but feminine charm... she didn’t have any.’

’Blaze’s instinctive attraction to her was just the lingering effects of the aphrodisiac.’

Without Luna Axton "helping" inside, Blaze’s work went much faster.

When Luna Axton finished eating, the couple went to deliver some to Jenna Axton together.

"Go on. You just ate, so it’s good to go for a walk to help with digestion." Julian Fairchild was eager for the young couple to spend more time together and nurture their relationship.

After the family finished dinner, the on-duty servants cleaned up and left to celebrate the Spring Festival as well.

The Fairchild Estate was quiet, with only the streetlights and decorative lanterns illuminating the night.

Thinking of her mother, Luna Axton’s good mood from the strawberry shortcake gradually dissipated in the night breeze.

’I wonder how Mom’s chat with Uncle Sean is going?’

’Will Mom want to stay in Valoria? Or does she plan to go back to Kensing?’

Based on her understanding of her mother, the most likely choice was to return to Kensing.

Her mother was the most famous and skilled senior English teacher in Kensing. When she had fallen ill, she had taken an extended leave of absence without pay.

If she wanted to go back to teaching at Kensing High School, her position would be waiting for her.

"Thinking about your mom?" Blaze Fairchild asked, his hand gently rubbing the back of hers.

"I was thinking that now that I’m married, it feels like I have to grow up. If Mom goes back, for various reasons, it won’t be so easy for me to see her anymore."

"As long as you want to see her, you can. She’ll always be your mother. That’s a fact that won’t change," Blaze Fairchild comforted her.

Blaze’s perspective differed from Luna Axton’s. His memories of childhood might be hazy, but he still had them.

He said, "Based on my understanding of my younger uncle over the years, he won’t agree to let your mother go back to Kensing."

As a man himself, Blaze Fairchild knew very well that men and women love differently.

When a man loves a woman, he absolutely cannot tolerate her not being by his side.

The concept of unrequited love doesn’t really exist for men—not unless the woman truly has no interest.

Luna Axton was pure-hearted. Growing up, she’d had limited contact with men and didn’t understand them at all.

She said, "I don’t think so. Uncle Sean is very respectful of others. And no one can stop my mom from doing what she wants to do."

Blaze Fairchild replied, "Then we’ll just have to see what your mother decides."

Of course, he hoped his mother-in-law would stay in Valoria. That way, Luna could see her every day, which would make her very happy.

He found a sense of fulfillment for the affection he’d never received as a child from both Aunt Adriana and his mother-in-law, Jenna Axton.

In his heart, he still hoped his mother-in-law would stay in Valoria.

Crimson Hall, like the rest of the Fairchild Estate, was silent. Only the red lanterns hanging under the eaves swayed gently in the wind.

"Mom isn’t back yet." ’The conversation probably isn’t going well,’ Luna Axton thought.

"It’s fine. We’ll leave it on the table so your mom can eat it when she gets back."

"Okay."

It was supposed to be a time for family reunion and joy, but looking at the empty Crimson Hall, Luna Axton felt a tightness in her chest, as if it were stuffed with cotton.

Her mom had prepared hats for her postpartum confinement and had crocheted so many cute little mittens and socks for Lucky.

Her mom had also read several parenting books, thinking she would help take care of Lucky for a while.

The happier she felt when her mother was with her, the more devastated she was by the thought of not being able to live with her.

She felt so conflicted. She wanted her mother to live as she wished, but she also didn’t want to be separated from her.

Her rational mind told her that separation was inevitable sooner or later.

But she could think of countless reasons to keep living with her mother.

Knowing something and doing it were as far apart as the North and South Poles.

As Luna Axton was lost in thought, she felt something cool on her face.

She raised a hand to wipe it away and found it was a tear.

By the time she became aware of her surroundings again, she was already on the way back to Lakeside Manor with Blaze Fairchild.

Blaze Fairchild was walking beside her, hands in his pockets, his pace leisurely—truly the gait of someone out for a post-dinner stroll.

"Aren’t we going back to keep Grandpa company?"

"Grandpa is probably about to go to sleep. He’s old and was just in the hospital, so he can’t overexert himself. We should also go back to Lakeside Manor and rest."

Luna Axton understood. If they were there, Grandpa would feel too polite to go to bed.

"When we get back to Lakeside Manor, I have something for you to do."

"What is it?"

Blaze Fairchild’s expression was mysterious. "Just something small. Don’t be nervous."
