Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Sudden Attack!

Fourteen hours had passed...

With the help of the village chief’s guards, Reon and Mei Lin had successfully evacuated all the villagers—relocating them to a clearing nearly a mile away from the village.

To avoid panic, they told everyone it was a food distribution effort.

Reon had no choice but to actually provide food, using the beasts he’d hunted in the Greenhood Forest, along with the meat he had in his Spatial Ring and rice stored in the village chief’s mansion.

Although the chief was angry at first, Reon managed to calm him down by purchasing the rice at a fair price.

By now, it was already night.

The villagers sat together on the open field, happily eating under the moonlit sky.

Some had set up makeshift tents and were resting.

Children laughed as they played simple games on the grass.

But not everyone was at ease—some elders had grown suspicious of the sudden evacuation.

"This isn’t normal," a few of them whispered.

They knelt on the earth, hands clasped in prayer, murmuring softly to the heavens, hoping to ward off whatever unseen danger lingered in their village.

"Brother Taiyang, do you think the fairy sister has already taken care of everyone inside?" Mei Lin asked softly, her gaze drifting toward the distant village.

Reon looked at her, a faint trace of surprise flickering across his face.

’Mei Lin... Just a few weeks ago, you were trembling at the sight of corpses. Now you speak so calmly about death.’

’And just a few days ago, you even helped us kill bandits—though we told you it wasn’t necessary. At first, you were really scared of taking a life, but you forced yourself... just to prove you could be useful.’

A smile bloomed on his face.

’You’ve really grown up.’

’But then again, it’s only fitting for someone who’ll one day be known as the Queen of Assassin, slaying thousands of the wicked and corrupt.’

As he studied her face, lost in thought, Mei Lin suddenly tilted her head with a cheeky smile.

"What are you staring at so intently and smiling like that, Brother Taiyang? Do I look toooo cute? Or... do I seem more like an adult to you now?"

Reon chuckled. "Hmm... of course you do."

She leaned closer, her voice barely a whisper.

"Then... when will you do that with me?"

"Agh—!"

Mei Lin groaned as Reon gently flicked her forehead.

"Shut up, kid."

"Geez..." Mei Lin pouted, rubbing her forehead. "I swear, one day I’ll become so irresistible, you won’t be able to look away."

"Yeah, yeah. Dream big." Reon smirked, then his expression turned serious. "Anyway, focus. Senior Sister should be almost done inside. But if anything goes wrong... we’ll need to handle it from outside."

Mei Lin straightened up, nodding with a small smile.

"Alright. As Brother Taiyang commands, so shall I obey."

But just as the night seemed to settle—

BOOM!

A thunderous explosion shattered the silence, erupting from the heart of the village.

Mei Lin and Reon dashed toward the source of the explosion, the sound still ringing in their ears, hearts pounding.

But what they saw after coming to the sight left them completely stunned.

Before their eyes stretched a nightmare—thousands of Demonic Beasts filled the village square, snarling and writhing like a tide of living darkness.

Among them, hundreds of hulking Demonic Soldier Beasts marched in unison, over twenty Demonic Elite Beasts stood like mountains in the misty moonlight, and towering over all of them—

—was a Demonic Commander Beast.

Its red eyes glowed like embers of hellfire, and its presence alone twisted the air with pure malice.

"W-What... is this, Brother Taiyang?" Mei Lin whispered, her voice trembling. "How did so many beasts get here?"

"I-I don’t know..." Reon muttered, his eyes scanning the overwhelming horde. "But with this many... three or four nearby cities could be destroyed before sunrise."

His expression hardened, a creeping dread overtaking him.

’What in the world happened inside that secret realm...?’

Beside him, Mei Lin’s hands trembled as memories clawed back from the depths of her mind—her village in flames, Demonic Beasts tearing through her home, her parents falling while protecting her.

Her knees weakened. "Oh no... W-What do we do, Brother Taiyang? This is a beast tide. We’ll all die... everyone will die!"

Reon’s gaze snapped to her. He saw it in her eyes—the fear of the past, threatening to take hold again.

’I guess I was wrong... she’s still a child after all.’

Suddenly—

"Eh?!"

She let out a small gasp as Reon pulled her into a firm embrace from behind.

"Xiao Lin," he said softly but firmly, "this isn’t the time to be scared. I know your past still hurts—but look around you. I’m here. I’ll always be by your side."

He tightened his grip. "So let’s fight—together. Let’s protect what we can until Senior Sister returns."

Mei Lin froze in his arms for a moment.

Then slowly... she looked up at him, her eyes clearing, her breath steadying.

’Yeah... I’m not the same weak Mei Lin I used to be. I’ve grown stronger. And I have Brother Taiyang by my side now. So I won’t let my past scare me anymore.’

’And how could I cower now? I was supposed to show him how cool I can be... so he’d stop treating me like a child.’

She smiled brightly, her confidence reignited.

"Yes, Brother Taiyang."

Reon nodded. "Good. Then let’s go. Let’s hold them back."

Together, they charged forward—toward the roaring tide of beasts.

In a flash of light, Reon summoned Cloudia and the little tiger. In the next heartbeat, both transformed into their true forms—towering, majestic, and brimming with wild power.

"Wha—!" Mei Lin’s eyes widened. "T-That cute little fox... was actually this massive beast?! And there’s another one...? A giant tiger?!"

From above, Cloudia glanced at her with narrowed eyes.

"Yoo, little girl. You’re getting quite close to my master," she said, her tone laced with jealousy.

Mei Lin blinked.

"It talks too? And it’s a she?" She sighed. "Great... just what I needed—another rival."

"Little lass, I’m not your rival—I already belong to my master," Cloudia said with a smirk.

"W-What?!"

WHOOSH!

SWOOSH!

BOOM!

GAUURHHHH!

They launched into the horde—slashing, roaring, tearing through waves of demonic flesh.

Blood sprayed. Claws clashed. The night air was thick with smoke and fury.

But for every beast they cut down, more surged forward—like an endless sea.

"This is insane... When is Senior Sister coming back?" Reon muttered, his breathing heavy. "We can’t hold out forever like this..."

Slash!

He slashed another beast.

Suddenly—

A savage roar erupted behind him.

Reon spun around—and his heart dropped.

The Demonic Commander Beast was right behind him, jaws wide open, ready to strike.

"Fuck!"
