Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Something Must Have Happened

"Ma’am, please, try to stay calm," Easton Rivers said, looking troubled. "Master Sterling had an episode right as we were about to leave."

Panic seized Vivian Quinn’s heart. "Take me home. Now."

"Yes, Ma’am."

When Vivian Quinn arrived home, Jett Sterling was still unconscious.

The man’s face was ashen, drained of all color. His brows were knitted tightly, a clear sign of the immense pain he had endured before passing out.

Her heart aching, Vivian Quinn gently caressed his face and took his pulse.

His pulse was as steady as ever, revealing nothing unusual.

Vivian Quinn retrieved her medical kit, pricked Jett Sterling’s fingertip to draw a blood sample, and handed it to Easton Rivers. "Take this to the hospital for a detailed analysis."

"Yes, Ma’am." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

It was already dark by the time Jett Sterling woke up.

When he opened his eyes and saw Vivian Quinn’s face, the exhaustion on his own vanished. "Did I scare you?"

"You did. You promised you’d come get me, but you never showed up. Don’t do that to me again."

The man looked at her tenderly. "Okay."

"I had the kitchen make some porridge. I’ll go get it for you."

"Okay."

Vivian Quinn brought the porridge and began feeding it to him. "Jett, I want to ask for your help in finding my master."

"Didn’t you say you didn’t want my help before?"

"I wanted to keep a low profile, and my master specifically instructed me not to look for him. But now, for the sake of your health, I can’t worry about that anymore. Besides, I’m just desperate to find him."

"Then give me what information you have. I’ll have Easton Rivers make the arrangements."

"My master is The Phantom Healer."

"What did you say?" Jett Sterling’s brow furrowed. "Your master is The Phantom Healer?"

"Yes. To be precise, my master was the previous Phantom Healer. When I turned eighteen, I became the new one."

Jett Sterling smiled and caressed her face. "So I married a Miracle Doctor."

"You’re giving me too much credit. My master has been missing for six years, so there’s so much I never got to learn. If that weren’t the case, I wouldn’t have been oblivious to my own pregnancy and childbirth."

"Vivian, let’s not talk about that."

"Okay." Vivian Quinn’s lips curved slightly. "My master’s medical skills are unparalleled. As long as we find him, he’ll surely figure out a way to cure you."

"Vivian, do you really think I haven’t looked for The Phantom Healer myself?"

Vivian Quinn froze. "You mean you’ve looked for my master?"

"Of course. It would have been in the fall, six years ago. The Phantom Healer is mysterious and elusive; it took me a great deal of effort to find him."

"The fall of six years ago?" Vivian Quinn asked anxiously. "My master left me in the fall six years ago. He said he was going to Aethelgard to treat a patient. Could that patient have been you?"

"In all likelihood, yes."

"Then where did my master go afterward?"

"I had originally planned to retain him for long-term treatment, and he was quite interested in my illness. But he only saw me twice before he vanished. I haven’t been able to find any trace of him since."

"Vanished..." A sudden panic gripped Vivian Quinn’s heart. "No, that’s not right. My master isn’t the type to break a promise. If he agreed to treat you, he wouldn’t just leave. And even if he had to leave, why wouldn’t he have returned home? So, Jett, something must have happened to him!"

"His movements have always been unpredictable. He’s also very plain-looking and doesn’t stand out in a crowd. Logically speaking, very few people would recognize him, so it shouldn’t have been easy for him to get into trouble."

"But he *did* disappear! He would never abandon me without a reason." Vivian Quinn’s hands trembled uncontrollably. "And when he left that time, it was like he had a premonition. He specifically warned me that if he didn’t return, I must not go looking for him. He said that if I did, my life would be in danger."

"It sounds like this is more complicated than I thought." Jett Sterling took her hand. "Vivian, try not to panic. I’ll make arrangements right away. I promise I’ll find out where he is."

"I’ve actually been investigating secretly for the past few years, but I’ve come up with nothing. I can’t afford to be discreet anymore. Even if it means making a scene, I have to find out what happened to my master."

"Okay. I’ll redouble my efforts to find him."

Vivian Quinn picked up the bowl again and continued feeding him the porridge.

Jett Sterling watched her. "What were you doing at the hospital this morning?"

"I went to see Joy," Vivian Quinn said, blinking.

"Really?"

"Of course, it’s true. Joy was craving soup dumplings, so I bought some and brought them to her."

Jett Sterling didn’t press the issue. "You can just have the bodyguards handle things like that. You don’t need to trouble yourself."

"I know."

Early the next morning, Easton Rivers delivered the blood test results.

Vivian Quinn looked it over. The data was nearly identical to the report Mason Landon had given her. It seemed he hadn’t been lying.

"Ma’am, is there a problem with Master Sterling’s report?"

"The lack of any problems is what makes this so difficult..."

Jett Sterling stepped out of the elevator and saw the two of them with their heads together. Frowning, he asked, "What’s going on?"

Vivian Quinn gave him a brilliant smile. "Nothing! I was just waiting for you for breakfast."

"Good. After we eat, I’ll take you to school."

’That way, she won’t run off to the hospital again to see someone she shouldn’t.’

"Okay."

...

Jett Sterling arranged for a search for The Phantom Healer, but there were no immediate leads. Meanwhile, Mason Landon recovered from his injuries, was discharged from the hospital, and gave Vivian Quinn a call.

"Vivian, it’s time for your leg surgery."

"Are you well enough? You can perform the surgery?"

"I’m fine. The time is right, so there’s no need to put it off."

"Alright." Vivian Quinn felt a flicker of anticipation. "Just schedule a time and let me know."

"Okay."

Just as Vivian Quinn hung up, she suddenly heard a loud commotion from the room next door!

She scrambled to her feet and ran to the study. Sure enough, Jett Sterling’s illness was flaring up again!

"Jett Sterling!" Vivian Quinn ran over and cradled his head. "Easton! Easton!"

Easton Rivers rushed in. "Ma’am!"

"Get the medical kit!"

"Yes, Ma’am!"

Vivian Quinn didn’t rush to perform acupuncture on Jett Sterling. Instead, she held down his hand, drew a blood sample, and only then began applying the needles.

Jett Sterling gradually calmed down, leaning back in his chair to rest.

Vivian Quinn handed the collected blood sample to Easton Rivers. "Get this analyzed."

"Yes, Ma’am."

Vivian Quinn went to the bathroom, got a hot towel, and began wiping Jett Sterling’s face. "How are you feeling now?"

"Much better."

"Jett, I have some good news. I can have the surgery on my leg now. I’ll be completely healed afterward."

Jett Sterling took her hand. "Mason Landon is doing the surgery?"

"Yes. Mason Landon performed my previous surgery, so he’s the most familiar with my condition. He’ll be performing this one, too."

"I’ll be there with you."

"Okay."

Vivian Quinn received the blood test results that same afternoon and immediately began analyzing the data.

Mason Landon called. "Vivian, the surgery is scheduled for next Friday."

"Okay, I’ll take the day off," Vivian Quinn said. "Your research report was correct. Jett Sterling’s blood during an episode is different from when he’s well. I have reason to believe it’s a hereditary blood disease."

"Vivian, are you so protective of Jett Sterling that you felt the need to verify my report? Do you really think I would lie to you just to harm him?"
