Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Get a Divorce First

Vivian Quinn stopped in her tracks and turned to face her. "Rachel Quinn, have you lost your mind? Or have I been too lenient with you?"

"You don’t believe me?" Rachel Quinn set down her coffee and advanced on Vivian, her high heels clicking with each deliberate step. "It’s no wonder you don’t. You don’t remember, after all. Have you forgotten that you lost a year of your memory?"

Vivian Quinn’s brow furrowed. "You can stand there and make things up all day. We’ll see if anyone believes you."

"Vivian Quinn!" Rachel Quinn grabbed her shoulders, enunciating every single word. "I told you, I ruined your life long ago. On your eighteenth birthday, I was the one who personally put you in a stranger’s bed, and then you got pregnant! The doctor said you had a peculiar constitution and couldn’t have an abortion, so Mom and Dad locked you up at home and made you have the baby!"

"They felt you brought great shame to the family, and since Grandpa Grant had already designated you as Austin’s fiancée, they covered the whole thing up!" A sly smile flickered in Rachel Quinn’s eyes. "It was my idea to find someone to hypnotize you. How about that? Wasn’t your big sister just the sweetest?"

Vivian Quinn’s brow furrowed even more tightly. "Impossible! If that were true, you wouldn’t have had to go to all the trouble of carrying on a secret affair with Austin. You could have just told the Grant family about it to get the engagement called off."

"What do you know? I don’t just want you ruined. I want the feeling of having you completely under my control. I want Austin to willingly dump you and be with me. Just look at yourself, Vivian Quinn. Even after you were crippled and disfigured for him, he doesn’t feel the slightest bit of compassion for you. That’s my real goal! HAHAHAHA!"

"I don’t believe you..." Vivian Quinn shoved her hand away. "I will never believe a single word you say!"

Rachel Quinn spread her hands in a helpless gesture. "I knew you wouldn’t believe me. That’s why I specifically asked you to meet me at a hospital. It makes it convenient for you to get a check-up. With modern medical science, they can find out if you’ve ever given birth. Go check, Vivian Quinn. I’ll be waiting to watch you suffer, to watch you become the Sterling family’s abandoned wife. For the rest of your life, you’ll be crushed under my heel!"

Vivian Quinn turned and left, numbly stepping into the elevator. She went downstairs to Joy Chase’s hospital room.

"Sis, you’re here?" Joy Chase put down her book. "Quick, come sit."

Vivian Quinn walked to the bedside and sat down.

Joy Chase took her hand and was instantly alarmed. "Sis, your hand is so cold!"

"Ah?" Vivian Quinn tried to compose herself. "Joy, do you remember my eighteenth birthday?"

"Why are you asking about that all of a sudden? I thought you’d forgotten all about it," Joy Chase said, curious.

"I’m asking because I forgot. Please, just tell me."

"On your eighteenth birthday, I was in the hospital, so I couldn’t go to your party. Not that I was qualified to attend, of course. I tried calling you the next day, but you never answered. I was worried, so I had a caregiver go to the Quinn residence to find you. The people there said you drank too much at your party and hadn’t woken up yet."

"And after that?"

"For the next year, you never came to the hospital to see me. You wouldn’t pick up my video calls, either. You only ever replied by typing."

Vivian Quinn’s fingertips trembled. "That went on for an entire year?"

"Mhm, pretty much. You didn’t come to the hospital to see me again until just before your birthday the following year."

"Was there anything unusual about me?"

"No, not really. You just seemed thinner, and your complexion wasn’t great. You told me you’d been sick and had forgotten what happened that year."

The color drained from Vivian Quinn’s face, bit by bit.

’She didn’t want to believe Rachel’s words, but she knew Rachel. She wouldn’t be so confident if she didn’t have something to hold over her.’

’Something unbearable must have happened during the year she forgot!’

’Could what Rachel said be true? Did I really... have a baby?’

"Joy, you get some rest. I’ll come see you another day." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Sis, where are you going?"

Vivian Quinn didn’t answer Joy Chase. She just left the room.

She didn’t get the check-up at that hospital. Instead, she went to a private one and had a comprehensive physical exam.

It wasn’t until the afternoon that her test results came back.

"Miss Quinn, based on the condition of your uterus, we can confirm that you have previously given birth. The delivery appears to have been a normal, natural one."

Vivian Quinn shuddered. Her mind went blank as a ringing sound filled her ears, making her so dizzy she nearly fell.

"Miss Quinn, are you all right?" The doctor quickly steadied her.

Vivian Quinn had no idea how she even walked out of the hospital. She was crossing the street numbly when she was startled by the sharp blare of a horn.

A car screeched to a halt less than two feet away from her. The driver stuck his head out and cursed, "You looking to die?! Get the hell away from me!"

Vivian Quinn quickly stumbled back to the roadside, where she stood frozen.

She didn’t know how much time had passed before Shane Shaw finally hurried over. "Boss, what are you doing standing here? Collecting dust?"

Vivian Quinn struggled to snap out of her trance and turned to look at him. "What are you doing here?"

"I just called you, and you told me you were here," Shane Shaw said, puzzled. "Boss, you look terrible. What happened? What were you doing at the hospital? Are you not feeling well?"

Vivian Quinn grabbed his hand and asked urgently, "Shane, what happened on my eighteenth birthday?"

"Boss, I was sent abroad to study by the Shaw family for two years, remember? If I had been here, I never would have just stood by and watched you become like this for Austin Grant."

"I’m not talking about Austin. I mean the year I forgot."

"Oh, right. You did lose a year of your memory because of an illness, but I only learned about it from you after I got back. I don’t know what happened to you that year. Boss, is something wrong?"

Vivian Quinn slowly released him. "It’s nothing. I was just asking."

"Boss, if something’s wrong, you have to tell me. You’re making me really worried."

"I have something to do. I’m leaving."

"Boss, but we were supposed to get hot pot tonight!"

"Some other time!"

Vivian Quinn took a taxi back to Sycamore Bay, pulled out her laptop, and expertly began to type.

’If I gave birth, there must be medical records at a hospital. I have to find out the truth!’

But after searching for a long time, she couldn’t find a single trace.

’Either I didn’t give birth in a registered hospital, or someone wiped the records clean!’

Vivian Quinn took out her phone and made a call.

"Vivian?" Rachel Quinn answered quickly. "What’s the matter? Been to the hospital?"

"The baby?" Vivian Quinn asked in a cold voice. "Where is the baby?"

Rachel Quinn chuckled. "Just like a mother, so anxious about her baby. If you want to know where your child is, that will depend on how you behave."

"What do you want?"

"I haven’t thought about the specifics yet. But for now... divorce him first."
