Chapter 62: Chapter 62: I’ll Teach You Right Now

"Master Sterling, you said before not to worry about these watchers."

Jett Sterling scoffed. "Their surveillance is amateurish. Even my wife has noticed, and it’s making her feel uneasy."

"I understand. I’ll go investigate right away."

Vivian was indeed uneasy. Before bed that night, she drew the curtains shut.

"Vivian, the windows are one-way glass. No one can see in from the outside."

"But I still don’t feel safe," Vivian said, worried. "I’m guessing it’s the Grant Family, or the Quinn Family."

"It’s nothing. You don’t have to worry."

"How can you say it’s nothing?" Vivian sat back down on the bed and looked at him seriously. "We’re being watched. How are we supposed to live our lives like this...?"

"No one can interfere with our lives." Jett Sterling grabbed her wrist, pulling her back into his arms. "However, since Mrs. Sterling is having doubts, I’ll show you just how we’re going to live..."

The words had barely left his mouth before his lips were on hers.

They kissed for a long while before Jett finally released her with some restraint. "Go to sleep."

...

Taking the rare opportunity to sleep in, Vivian didn’t wake up until past nine. She opened her eyes to find Jett Sterling still asleep.

Staring at his handsome face, Vivian couldn’t resist reaching out to poke his nose.

His brow twitched, and he showed signs of waking.

Vivian quickly squeezed her eyes shut.

A moment later, his deep, melodious voice sounded by her ear. "Mrs. Sterling, stop pretending to be asleep."

Vivian opened one eye. "How did you know I was faking it?"

"Your eyelashes were fluttering."

Vivian’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled.

Jett stared at her lips, just about to kiss her, when a sudden knock sounded at the door. Nanny Jenner’s voice followed. "Young Master, the Young Madam’s mother, Ms. Yvonne Lawrence, is here."

They exchanged a look. Any thought of intimacy vanished from Vivian’s mind. She raised her voice and said, "I’ll be right down."

"Yes."

Vivian washed up and went downstairs to find Yvonne Lawrence sitting on the living room sofa, her eyes darting around.

"What do you want?" Vivian walked over and asked coldly.

Yvonne said scornfully, "Didn’t you manage to hook a cripple with an unlimited card? Why are you living in such a normal residential area? That Bentley parked at the gate isn’t even as nice as ours." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Are you here to show off? If so, you can leave."

"I’m speaking the truth!" Yvonne said, disgruntled. "I’m the one who gave birth to you. Why must you always work against me?"

"And you really don’t know why I work against you?"

"You’re going to say Rachel set you up again, aren’t you? Do you have a persecution complex? Rachel is kindhearted, how could she possibly hurt you! You’re the one who’s always up to some dirty business."

Vivian frowned. "What dirty business have I supposedly done? You should at least think before you start slinging mud."

"All right, all right, I can’t be bothered to argue with you," Yvonne said impatiently. "I’m here today on serious business. Because of you, the Quinn Group’s crisis still isn’t resolved, and now the situation is getting worse. Have your crippled man put up some money to inject into the Quinn Group."

Vivian actually laughed. "Did I hear you right? You came here today... to ask for money?"

"Don’t put it so crudely. The Quinn Family gave birth to you and raised you. Shouldn’t you pay them back?"

Vivian sat down on the sofa. "You did give birth to me. And I don’t blame you for not knowing I was switched by a thief. But don’t act so high and mighty. You know perfectly well what kind of life I’ve had since returning to the Quinn Family."

"Vivian Quinn, you’ve gone too far!" Yvonne flew into a humiliated rage. "I admit it, I like Rachel more, but you brought that on yourself! And even so, even if your status in the family couldn’t compare to Rachel’s, did I ever let you starve or freeze? You’re still living just fine, aren’t you?"

"That’s why I said it. Tally up how much money the Quinn Family has spent on me these past five years. I’ll pay you back, with interest."

Yvonne’s face went cold. "One billion."

"One billion?" Vivian laughed out loud, as if she had just heard a hilarious joke. "Why don’t you go rob a bank? The armored truck should be there by now. Hurry up, I can even provide a friendly stocking for you to put over your head."

"Vivian Quinn, I’m not joking with you!" Yvonne said seriously. "I gave birth to you and raised you. Now that you’ve latched onto a rich man, shouldn’t you pay me back?"

Vivian enunciated every word, "I naturally repay those who are kind to me. But you and Silas Quinn only deserve to be paid back for exactly what you spent."

"Vivian Quinn, you heartless creature! How did I give birth to something like you!" Yvonne pointed at her, cursing. "If I had known you’d end up like this, I never should have given birth to you in the first place!"

"What a coincidence. I think so too." Vivian raised her hand. "Nanny Jenner, see her out."

"Yes." Nanny Jenner quickly called two bodyguards and had Yvonne Lawrence thrown out.

Vivian got up and sat down at the dining table. Just as she was about to eat, Nanny Jenner came in and reported, "Young Madam, your mother hasn’t left. She’s sitting at the gate making a scene, and a crowd is gathering. She’s crying and shouting even more hysterically now."

"Let her."

"Young Madam, is that wise? A billion isn’t actually that much. If it will make her leave, you should probably just give it to her. The Young Master can certainly afford it."

Vivian turned to look at her, her expression serious. "We may have money, but that’s no reason to burn it. I’ll give what I owe, but the Quinn Family is clearly making an exorbitant demand. Why should I feed their greed?"

"But having her make a scene like this looks bad. The Young Master will be upset if he sees."

"If she can get a billion just by sitting on the ground and throwing a tantrum, that’s far too easy. You can’t enable people like that, not even my own birth mother," Vivian said coolly. "Call the police."

Nanny Jenner was speechless.

"Is that a good idea? Mrs. Sterling already dislikes you. If she gets hold of something like this, things will get even worse."

"Mrs. Sterling? You mean Jett Sterling’s mother?"

"Of course."

"She dislikes me already. I’m not about to throw money at this problem just to keep the peace for her. Call the police."

Nanny Jenner hesitated.

"Do as the Young Madam says." A low, cool male voice suddenly sounded nearby.

"Young Master." Nanny Jenner stepped forward and bowed her head. "Yes, I’ll call the police now."

Before she had finished breakfast, the police came and took away Yvonne Lawrence, who was still making a scene.

It was finally quiet, but Vivian had no appetite.

’She had her pride, too.’ With the scene Yvonne had just made, every maid and bodyguard in the house had seen and heard it all.

’Nanny Jenner was actually right. This incident would quickly reach Wendy Reeves’s ears, and the relationship between her and her mother-in-law would surely become even more strained.’

’She must have owed the Quinn Family a debt in a past life!’

"All done?" he asked, taking a napkin to wipe the corner of her lips. "If you’re full, let’s go."

"Go where?"

"You’ll know when we get there."

...

The black Bentley pulled away from the villa. Vivian didn’t know where they were going and didn’t press the issue, simply staring out at the passing streetscape, lost in thought.

"Vivian," Jett Sterling said, taking her hand. "Why is your hand so cold? Are you feeling sick?"

"No." Vivian curved her lips into a slight smile. "I’m fine."

He looked at her. "Vivian, my philosophy has always been that if a problem can be solved with money, you shouldn’t waste time or energy on it. Do you understand?"

Vivian frowned. "You also think I should have just used a billion to get rid of the Quinn Family?"

"No, I completely respect your decision on this matter. I just want to tell you that what’s mine is yours. Any time you need money, you can use it to solve anything."

"You need to understand that from a legal standpoint, from the day we got married, any money I earn is our joint property."

Vivian let out a laugh. "Mr. Sterling, are you really this desperate to get me to spend your money? You’re actually bringing up the law now."

"I just can’t bear to see you struggle."

Vivian’s nose tingled, and she felt her eyes welling up. "Jett Sterling, you’re so good to me. Just because I was your first woman, you love me this much."

The moment the words left her mouth, the man’s gaze darkened abruptly. It was as if something in the depths of his pitch-black eyes had just begun to crack...
