Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Madam, Be Gentle

"Did you two have a fight, too?" Vivian Quinn sighed. "I actually think it’s normal for couples to have their ups and downs. If you just put in a little more effort with her, she’ll naturally stop being angry."

"She went abroad, so you should go after her. Being separated like this is really bad for a relationship. Girls are actually very soft-hearted. If you chase after her abroad, she’ll definitely be touched."

"But she made it clear she doesn’t want to see me."

"Are you dense? When a girl says she doesn’t want to see you, she’s usually just saying it out of anger. Go after her, say some sweet things, buy her some gifts. As long as you can show her you’re sincere, she won’t be able to resist your persistent efforts. But that’s only if you haven’t made some kind of fundamental mistake."

"So, Miss Quinn, do you fall for that sort of thing too?"

Vivian Quinn thought about it seriously before saying, "I won’t lie to you, I’m not immune to it either. For example, yesterday at the restaurant, some people were giving me a hard time, and Jett Sterling dealt with them for me. I was actually quite touched. Maybe it’s because I’ve rarely had anyone protect me like that."

"Then why are you still insisting on a divorce?"

"Because his lies crossed a line for me..." Vivian Quinn’s eyes filled with sadness. "He even dared to use a child to manipulate and deceive me. I don’t think there’s anything he wouldn’t do."

"Maybe he had his reasons? Miss Quinn, a child is important, but does he really mean nothing to you? Is a child that doesn’t exist more important than a living, breathing person standing right in front of you? In other words, even if the child were real, if you had to choose between the child and him, who would you choose?"

The hand Vivian Quinn was using to hold her bowl froze. "Why would I have to make a choice like that?"

"See? You didn’t immediately choose the child. That proves your husband still holds some weight in your heart. Miss Quinn, you’re not him. You can’t understand what he was feeling when he deceived you. Maybe he’s not as bad as you think. You’re already married. How can you end this marriage so easily?"

"If he had cheated on you, if he had another woman, I would definitely support your decision to divorce. But if it hasn’t come to that, I think you should think it over carefully."

Vivian Quinn’s mind was a tangled mess; she couldn’t make sense of anything. "Don’t say any more."

"Okay, I won’t."

"It’s getting late. You should go home and rest."

"You get some rest too."

"Mm."

...

A comedy was playing from the projector on the wall. Vivian Quinn was curled up on the sofa, her eyes fixed on the screen, but she couldn’t take any of it in.

Her mind was a mess, filled with nothing but the image of Jett Sterling’s face.

After her conversation with Zachary Quinn, she felt even more confused and lost.

’Does Jett Sterling really hold a place in my heart?’

She had never considered this question before. All she knew was that after Wendy Reeves had come to see her, all sorts of negative emotions had built up inside her. That, combined with discovering his calculated deception, was what made her emotions finally explode.

In truth, ever since she’d decided to marry him, she had wanted to build a good life with Jett Sterling. She’d never thought of divorcing him so easily. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

’Who would want to get divorced so soon?’

Memories of her time with Jett Sterling flashed through her mind, and the corners of her lips turned up unconsciously.

Whether it was him getting hurt for her, being all clingy, celebrating her birthday, or even the small moments in their daily life—they were all quite heartwarming.

She couldn’t deny that her days with Jett Sterling had been relaxing.

More relaxing than being at the Quinn Family home, and more relaxing than when she was with Austin Grant.

’So, my attitude toward Jett Sterling... have I really been too harsh...?’

Vivian Quinn ran a hand through her hair in frustration, unable to think anymore.

She turned off the movie, flopped onto the bed, and tried to sleep.

But after tossing and turning for what felt like ages, she still couldn’t fall asleep.

Thinking back, it seemed she hadn’t been sleeping well ever since she and Jett Sterling started fighting. It had only gotten harder to fall asleep after she moved out of the villa.

’That man is truly toxic!’

Vivian Quinn lay awake all night, only managing to fall into a difficult sleep just as dawn was breaking.

It wasn’t until noon that Vivian Quinn was startled awake by the sound of rain outside.

She picked up her phone and saw a missed call from Jett Sterling from two hours ago.

Just as Vivian Quinn was wondering whether to call him back, the phone rang again.

She hesitated for a moment, but still answered. "What is it?"

"Vivian, were you sleeping? Is that why you didn’t answer my call just now?"

"Maybe I just didn’t want to answer," Vivian Quinn said stubbornly.

"It’s raining outside, so don’t go running around. What do you want to eat? I’ll have someone bring it to you."

"I can order my own delivery."

"Delivery is unhealthy. Be good, get up and get ready."

"I know," Vivian Quinn said, hanging up. She lay in bed playing on her phone for a while before finally getting up to wash.

She had just stepped out of the bathroom when the doorbell rang.

She went to open the door and saw Jett Sterling standing outside.

"What are you doing here?"

"I’m here to deliver food to Mrs. Sterling."

"My place is too small. It’s not convenient for you to come in. You can go now."

"Vivian, I got caught in the rain," the man said, looking at her pitifully.

Only then did Vivian Quinn notice that the man’s hair was wet.

"What happened?" Vivian Quinn frowned, looking at Easton Rivers standing behind Jett Sterling. "Didn’t anyone have an umbrella for him?"

Easton Rivers cried silently in his heart. Before knocking, Master Sterling had poured a bottle of mineral water over his own head. Who could have possibly stopped him!

"Mrs. Sterling, I’m sorry. The rain was too heavy, and Master Sterling got wet," Easton Rivers said, forcing himself to go along with the lie.

The man in the wheelchair suddenly coughed. "Vivian, let me in to dry my hair. I’ll catch a cold otherwise. My head injury just recently healed; I can’t get sick again."

Vivian Quinn pursed her lips, but relented and let him in.

Easton Rivers, left outside the door: "..." ’Master Sterling really is on another level!’

Vivian Quinn went to the bathroom, got a towel, and handed it to Jett Sterling. "Dry it yourself."

The man took it. "Vivian, I brought you your favorite dishes. You should eat."

"Thanks." Vivian Quinn didn’t stand on ceremony. She took out the insulated food containers he’d brought. There were three dishes, a soup, and two servings of rice.

"I can’t eat all this."

"I’ll eat with you."

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Jett Sterling, you came here on purpose to eat with me, didn’t you?"

"Yes. When you’re not home, I lose my appetite."

"..."

"Fine, you can eat, but go dry your hair first. If you really catch a cold, I’m not taking responsibility."

"You dry it for me."

Vivian Quinn nearly exploded. "Jett Sterling, don’t push your luck!"

"Then let’s eat first. There’s no rush to dry it."

Vivian Quinn was about to die from anger. She went and got the hair dryer, started drying his hair, and deliberately ruffled it into a complete mess.

The man could feel her little prank and said with a low chuckle, "Be gentle, darling."
