Chapter 29: Chapter 29: I Hurt You That Day

"Jett Sterling, why can’t you stand?" Vivian Quinn asked.

"A car accident. It damaged my nerves."

"So, will you be able to stand again?"

"As of now, no."

’I must be overthinking things,’ Vivian Quinn thought. ’How could I possibly connect Jett Sterling with Zachary Quinn?’

’If he could really stand, why would Jett Sterling be in a wheelchair?’

Vivian Quinn dismissed the bizarre thought from her mind.

Jett Sterling looked at her. "Why the sudden question? Are you disappointed that I can’t stand and fight like your savior?"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"I never said that! Don’t get the wrong idea!"

"Your words are forcing me to get the wrong idea," Jett Sterling said seriously. "First, you praise how cool your savior is when he fights, then you ask if I can stand. Aren’t you just saying you’re disappointed in me?"

"I’m not!" Vivian Quinn felt like she couldn’t clear her name no matter what she said. "If I were disappointed in you, I wouldn’t have married you. So please, don’t overthink it."

The man reached out and pinched her cheek. "I’ll remember Mrs. Sterling’s promise."

Vivian Quinn: "..." ’This man is playing games with me again!’

After dinner, Vivian Quinn returned to the master bedroom and dialed a number.

"Vivian Quinn, you have the audacity to call me!"

"Chairman Grant, a desperate person has nothing to lose. There’s nothing I don’t dare to do." Vivian Quinn chuckled lightly. "Your hospital records are quite secretive, Chairman Grant. It’s just a shame that I’ve already found them."

"I’m calling today as a kind reminder, Chairman Grant. From this moment on, if even a single hair on my head or on anyone close to me goes missing, I’ll assume you’re behind it. And when that happens, the entire internet will know about your impotence."

Ethan Grant was so angry his teeth itched. "Are you threatening me?"

"That’s right, I am threatening you," Vivian Quinn said, enunciating every word. "Just think about it. If you were in my shoes, you’d be fearless too. At worst, we’ll take each other down. But even if I, Vivian Quinn, die, I’ll drag everyone who has ever hurt me down to Hell with me..."

"Oh, and by the way, I won’t be refunding that 200,000 consultation fee. I did, in fact, diagnose you, and I told you the truth. You overdid it with the medication. You’re incurable."

"Vivian Quinn, shut your mouth! You still dare to pretend to be the Phantom Healer!"

"...If you don’t believe me, fine. That’s all."

The moment Vivian Quinn hung up, she received a call from Silas Quinn. "The day after tomorrow is the anniversary of your grandmother’s death. Come back for a family reunion dinner."

Vivian Quinn hesitated for a moment but still agreed.

Although her grandmother had passed away only half a year after she returned to the Quinn Family, she had doted on her.

That was one of the few times she had felt warmth in the Quinn Family.

Her grandmother had always valued family reunions the most. She should go back for a visit.

Thinking of her grandmother, Vivian Quinn’s eyes instantly reddened, and she raised a hand to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes.

Outside, Jett Sterling silently closed the door.

He had been returning to his room and unintentionally overheard her on the phone. She had threatened Ethan Grant to protect him.

He was happy about it, but at the same time, he wished she could confide her sorrows in him.

’But it’s clear the current Mrs. Sterling hasn’t opened her heart to him yet...’

...

Vivian Quinn thought Jett Sterling was being strange.

He had been staring at her all evening without saying a single word.

Vivian Quinn finally couldn’t take it anymore. She put down her phone and turned to the man beside her. "You’ve been staring at me all night. You’re giving me the creeps."

The man smiled. "I like looking at you. Is there a problem?"

"Am I that good-looking?"

"Yes." Jett Sterling reached out and stroked her face. "Mrs. Sterling, our wedding night... shouldn’t we make up for it?"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

She recalled their wedding day. He hadn’t touched her because he mistakenly thought she was pregnant.

’By that logic, she really does owe him a wedding night.’

Vivian Quinn steeled herself, lay down directly, and closed her eyes with an expression like she was bravely facing death. "Come on, then. Just be gentle!"

Jett Sterling: "..."

’It seems the experience I gave her that night really wasn’t a good one.’

Vivian Quinn could feel the man’s cool yet commanding presence draw near. She swallowed hard, her palms beginning to sweat.

The next second, her small hand was suddenly enveloped by a large one.

His palm was slightly cool, yet it made her feel as if her entire body was about to catch fire.

A sudden kiss landed on her forehead, and a shiver ran through Vivian Quinn’s body.

But he only gave her a fleeting kiss, light as a dragonfly skimming water. His low, husky voice whispered in her ear, "My dear, you’re so cute."

Vivian Quinn felt herself being pulled into his embrace. A long moment passed, but he made no further move.

She finally couldn’t help but open her eyes, only to find him gazing deeply at her.

Vivian Quinn’s face flushed, and she quickly averted her gaze. "Why are you looking at me?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"You’re beautiful, my dear."

Vivian Quinn touched the scar on her face. "Doesn’t it disgust you?"

’Every time Austin Grant saw her scar, he would immediately look away and even demand she cover it with her hair. She had originally thought he felt sorry for her, but now she knew the truth. It was disgust. He felt she was dirtying his sight.’

The man’s handsome face suddenly drew closer. Before Vivian Quinn could react, his thin lips landed on her scar.

Vivian Quinn felt a warm breeze wash over her. In that instant, it was as if something had broken through the soil of her barren heart.

Her long lashes trembled as she stared at him in a daze.

The man reached out and caressed her face. "Go to sleep."

"You..." Vivian Quinn was both nervous and shy. "Didn’t you say I owe you a wedding night?"

"I hurt you that day, and I scared you. We have plenty of time. We can make it up later."

Vivian Quinn’s face grew even redder. "You don’t have to explain it in so much detail!"

"Alright." The man let out a low laugh. "Go to sleep."

Vivian Quinn closed her eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.

...

「Two days later」

Vivian Quinn arrived at the Quinn Family estate right on time.

Yvonne Lawrence saw her but acted as if she hadn’t.

"Vivian, you’re back?" Silas Quinn, on the other hand, greeted her. "I had the kitchen prepare your favorite dishes. Let’s have a nice family reunion dinner. Your grandmother would be happy to see it from heaven."

"There’s no need," Vivian Quinn said coldly. "I’m just going to stay in Grandma’s room for a bit, and then I’ll leave."

Silas Quinn watched her back, his face filled with worry. He lowered his voice and said to Yvonne, "Are you sure you want to do this? She has a fiery temper. It would be bad if something happened."

Yvonne Lawrence said confidently, "What’s there to be afraid of? It’s because she has a fiery temper that we need to break her spirit. Otherwise, she’ll be walking all over you. Don’t worry, honey, my preparations are foolproof. Nothing will go wrong."

"Think about President Aldridge’s promise. He’ll invest in our company after this is done. Besides, President Aldridge genuinely likes Vivian. He’ll be good to her. You could say we’re helping her find a good match."

Silas Quinn said nothing more.

Vivian Quinn entered the room. Looking at the kind face in the photograph on the wall, she couldn’t stop the tears from welling up.

She picked up the incense sticks from the table, lit them, and placed them in the incense burner. "Grandma," she choked out, "I’m back to see you. Please don’t worry about me. I’ll make sure to live a good life."

The next second, Vivian Quinn suddenly felt a wave of dizziness!

She pressed a hand to her forehead and abruptly realized what was happening, her gaze snapping to the burning incense in front of her.

’There’s something wrong with this incense!’
