Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Losing the Child

Vivian Quinn: "..." ’Why the change in address again?’

"Jett Sterling, I’m being serious with you," Vivian Quinn said. "I don’t know the full extent of your power, but the Grant Family is a formidable force in Aethelgard. Now you’ve offended them because of me, and you’ve clearly just brought a world of trouble on yourself."

"You’ve already been hurt for me once. I don’t want you getting into more trouble on my account, so I want to say..."

"You don’t have to say anything." Jett Sterling cut her off. "Vivian, we’re husband and wife. Sharing in honor and disgrace is the bare minimum. I will never let you face the Grant Family alone."

"Most importantly, you can rest assured that I’ve never considered the Grant Family a threat."

"Really?" Vivian Quinn furrowed her brow. "Please don’t lie just to comfort me, and don’t stick your neck out for this. I don’t want to drag you down."

"Mrs. Sterling, I hope to never hear you say words like ’drag you down’ again, alright?"

Vivian Quinn’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Okay."

Despite her words, Vivian Quinn’s state of mind had shifted.

Now that she had Jett Sterling and their child, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of attachment, a need to consider the consequences of her actions.

Back home, Vivian Quinn took the hat off Jett Sterling’s head. "Your hair will grow back quickly. If you’re still self-conscious about it, just wear a hat for a while."

"Alright."

"Jett Sterling, there’s something else I want to discuss with you. My medical skills aren’t exactly top-tier, but I could try to treat you. Would you be willing to let me?"

Easton Rivers, who was standing to the side, immediately interjected, "You can’t, Madam. Even the best medical teams are helpless when it comes to Master Sterling’s condition. If your skills aren’t up to par, you absolutely cannot treat him recklessly. If anything were to go wrong, the consequences would be unimaginable."

Just as Vivian Quinn was about to explain, Jett Sterling turned and shot Easton Rivers a look. "Getting bold, are we? Since when are my affairs your decision to make?"

Easton Rivers bowed his head hastily. "Master Sterling, I’m sorry."

"Don’t blame Easton Rivers; his concerns are valid," Vivian Quinn said. "But if I’m going to attempt a treatment, it means I have some degree of confidence. I think it’s worth a try."

"I trust you." The man looked at her gently. "Vivian, don’t have any reservations. Just go ahead and treat me."

Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but laugh. "You’re really not afraid of dying, are you?"

"I’m not."

"You might not be, but I am. I have no desire to become a widow."

"Alright. I’ll do my best not to make you a widow."

Easton Rivers: "..." ’I shouldn’t be standing here torturing myself like this!’

...

Joy Chase had been doing fairly well these past few days. Vivian Quinn went out, bought a cake from a trendy cake shop, and hailed a taxi. "To Mercy Hospital, please."

Halfway there, Vivian Quinn suddenly felt that something was wrong. She looked at the masked driver in the front seat. "This isn’t the way to the hospital. Stop the car!"

The next second, she smelled a sharp, strange odor. Her body went limp, and she collapsed onto the back seat.

The taxi drove for an unknown amount of time before it finally stopped.

In a daze, Vivian Quinn struggled to open her eyes. She saw two men, one on each side, dragging her into an abandoned warehouse. There were footsteps behind her; there were three men in total.

Then, Vivian Quinn was thrown to the ground like a piece of trash.

She tried her best to see their faces but found that all three were wearing masks.

"Boss, I haven’t been with a woman in half a month! I can’t wait, I’m going first!"

"Go ahead."

A man as skinny as a monkey started unbuckling his belt as he walked over. Another, slightly chubby man held up a phone, ready to record a video. The man who seemed to be the leader leaned against the wall, smoking.

Alarm bells screamed in Vivian Quinn’s mind. She was completely powerless, with absolutely no chance of escape!

"Don’t come any closer..." Her voice was weak. "Whatever the person who hired you paid, I can double it!"

"Well now, the little lady’s pretty smart, figuring out we were hired so quickly," the skinny man said with a laugh. "But we have rules in our line of work, so you can save it. Instead of wasting your breath, you should save your energy to scream later. I love it when women scream nice and loud, heh heh heh..."

"Sir, calm down!" Vivian Quinn said urgently. "Just take a look at what’s in my pocket first."

"Stop stalling. It’s useless."

"Sir, you’ll regret it if you don’t look, really!"

The skinny man ignored her, impatiently dropping his pants. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"I have AIDS!" Vivian Quinn shouted. "The lab report is in my pocket!"

"What?" The skinny man hastily searched her pocket and, sure enough, found a lab report.

It really was for AIDS!

"Fuck, Boss, what do we do now?"

The man leaning against the wall took a small box from his pocket and tossed it over. "So uncultured. You can protect yourself from AIDS. This is why I tell you to wear one when you’re with women you find on the street."

"Heh heh, the boss is the best, he came prepared with condoms."

The skinny man hesitated. "But I’m still a little scared..."

"Look at you, you coward," said the slightly chubby man holding the phone. "You film. I’ll go first."

"Okay, okay."

Vivian Quinn trembled violently. A sense of despair washed over her like a tsunami, threatening to swallow her whole.

This feeling was even more hopeless than the day she had been thrown into a coffin. These three men were lecherous and disgusting. If she were truly defiled by them, she didn’t think she would have the mental fortitude to go on living!

The two men quickly swapped places. The skinny one held the phone to film while the chubby one lunged eagerly toward Vivian Quinn.

"No!"

Vivian Quinn summoned all her strength and kicked him in the crotch.

"AHH!"

The man clutched his crotch, howling in pain, and slapped Vivian Quinn across the face twice.

"Bitch! You dare kick me?"

The skinny man laughed. "Don’t tell me that kick made you useless? Maybe the boss should go first after all."

The leader said, "Stop dawdling. Delays breed trouble."

"Boss, I can do it!" The chubby man gritted his teeth through the pain and ripped open Vivian Quinn’s clothes.

"AHH!" Vivian Quinn broke down, crying out, "Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me!"

The chubby man gulped. "Yes, just like that! Scream! The louder you scream, the more excited I get!"

Suddenly, with a loud BANG, the warehouse door was kicked open.

The men immediately looked toward the entrance. A tall, slender, masked man in a black trench coat was striding toward them on long legs.

Vivian Quinn was still in shock, unable to tell if this man had come to save her or if he was one of them.

But she quickly found her answer, as the three men immediately went up to him and demanded, "Who the hell are you!"

The masked man said nothing. With a single kick, he sent the skinny man flying. His movements revealed he was a trained fighter.

The other two men immediately tried to subdue him, but he injured them and knocked them unconscious in just a few moves.

Vivian Quinn watched him walk toward her. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt a sense of familiarity with this man.

The man took off his trench coat and draped it over her.

The next second, Vivian Quinn felt a pair of strong, powerful hands helping her up.

Just as Vivian Quinn was about to thank him, a sharp pain shot through her abdomen!

’My baby...’
