Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 187: No Blood Relationship
Shirley Wentworth gently placated her. "Mrs. Sterling, it couldn’t be helped. Please calm down. You mustn’t let this ruin your health."
"Yes, you’re right. If I get sick from anger, Vivian Quinn will be the one gloating. I have to keep myself healthy to protect Jett!"
Shirley Wentworth choked back a sob. "Mrs. Sterling, Jett has truly had his head turned by Vivian Quinn. Otherwise, he wouldn’t abandon his own flesh and blood. Now, because he’s angry with me, he’s planning to move against the Wentworth family. I’m caught in the middle, and it’s so difficult. My heart aches for Elle... You have to help us..."
"What did you say?" Mrs. Sterling frowned. "Jett is going to move against the Wentworth family? Why?"
Shirley Wentworth fell to her knees with a THUD. "It’s my fault. I beg you to forgive me..."
"What on earth happened? Explain yourself!"
Through her tears, Shirley Wentworth explained the whole story. "...I wasn’t in my right mind. I thought that if I ruined Vivian Quinn’s reputation, Jett would divorce her and accept Elle. Mrs. Sterling, I know that my actions would indirectly bring shame on Jett, but for Elle’s sake, I felt I had no other choice..."
Mrs. Sterling sighed. "I understand. As mothers, we’d truly do anything for our children. But your actions could have hurt Jett. Since Vivian Quinn was lucky and came out unscathed, no real harm came to Jett, so I can hardly blame you. Get up."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sterling." Only then did Shirley Wentworth stand up. "But Jett is furious and plans to move against the Wentworth family. I’m afraid it will end in a mutually destructive situation."
"Jett is really getting more and more impulsive." Mrs. Sterling shook her head helplessly. "If anyone’s to blame, it’s that vixen Vivian Quinn. She’s used her pretty face to get her hooks into Jett. And honestly, it’s not like Jett has never seen a beautiful woman before. How could he be so completely captivated by her?"
Forcing back a wave of jealousy, Shirley Wentworth kept a smile on her face. "Men are just like that sometimes."
"That’s true. Honestly, I’m just happy that Jett is willing to touch a woman at all. It’s just that this Vivian Quinn is far too much trouble. The Sterling family can’t have a woman like her." Mrs. Sterling looked at Shirley in front of her. "You’re not like her. You’re gentle and poised, and your family background is a match for ours. It’s just a pity that the old feud between our families ran so deep. It ruined things for you two."
Mrs. Sterling took her hand. "Shirley, tell me the truth. Do you want to drive Vivian Quinn away simply so Elle can have a family, or is it because you have feelings for Jett?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Shirley Wentworth’s face flushed, and she quickly lowered her head.
Mrs. Sterling laughed. "I see."
Shirley Wentworth grew even more bashful. "Mrs. Sterling..."
"There’s no need to be shy." Mrs. Sterling patted the back of her hand. "Now that I know you truly have feelings for Jett, I can rest easy. Don’t you worry, I’ll be on your side."
"Whatever deep-seated hatred existed between the Sterling and Wentworth families, it has faded after several decades. Besides, you two now have Elle to tie you together. It’s time to turn from enemies into in-laws."
"Really?" Shirley Wentworth was deeply moved. "Mrs. Sterling, I promise you, I will love Jett with all my heart, take good care of Elle, and I will be a dutiful daughter-in-law and always listen to you!"
Mrs. Sterling was very pleased. "The Sterling family needs a daughter-in-law like you. Rest assured, even though Jett didn’t listen to me regarding Vivian Quinn and even defied me, I am, after all, Mrs. Sterling. In this family, my words carry weight. Vivian Quinn can forget about tarnishing the Sterling family’s reputation and jeopardizing the happiness of Jett and my grandson!"
A triumphant glint flashed in Shirley Wentworth’s eyes, though she let no one notice. She simply said obediently, "I’ll listen to you. Whatever you ask me to do, I will follow your lead without question."
"Good."
Suddenly, her phone rang. Shirley Wentworth glanced at the caller ID and said, "Mrs. Sterling, please excuse me, I have to take this call."
"Go ahead."
Shirley Wentworth got up, walked to a corner, and answered the phone. "Are there any developments?"
"Miss Wentworth, there’s a problem with the blood samples you provided."
"What kind of problem?"
"Did you perhaps draw the wrong blood? These two blood types don’t match at all. It’s no wonder I’ve been researching this for days with absolutely no progress."
Shirley Wentworth frowned. "Be more specific. What do you mean the blood types don’t match? That my blood can’t be transfused to my son?"
"That’s right. And this likely isn’t your blood, because I ran a DNA test. The two samples show no biological relation."
"What did you say!" Shirley Wentworth was stunned. "That’s impossible! I drew my son’s blood myself, and my blood was drawn at the hospital. There’s no way there was a mix-up. It has to be our blood!"
"But I’m not lying to you."
Shirley Wentworth looked over at Elle playing with Mrs. Sterling in the distance, her face a mask of utter shock!
"Impossible!" she denied. "There must have been a mistake on your end. It’s impossible that my son and I aren’t related!"
The doctor said helplessly, "Miss Wentworth, perhaps you should bring the young master to the hospital, and we can run another DNA test just to be sure."
"What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t need to verify anything!"
After her furious outburst, Shirley Wentworth hung up the phone.
It took her a great deal of effort to compose herself before she returned to the living room.
"What’s wrong?" Mrs. Sterling noticed her troubled expression. "Did something happen?"
"It’s nothing." Shirley Wentworth forced a smile. "It was my father. He was talking about Jett... about his plans to move against the Wentworth family."
Mrs. Sterling said, "Rest assured, for my dear grandson’s sake, I won’t let Jett do anything drastic to the Wentworth family."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sterling, for standing up for Elle and me..."
Mrs. Sterling was reluctant to see her grandson leave, but after dinner, Shirley Wentworth still found an excuse to take Elle with her.
She had the driver take them straight to the hospital. Holding Elle in her arms, she got out of the car and walked in.
"Miss Wentworth, you came after all." The doctor stood to greet her in his office. "I just ran the DNA test again, and the result is still..."
"Shut up!" Shirley Wentworth cut him off. "My child needs a check-up. Draw his blood."
The doctor understood instantly. "Yes."
"I don’t want them to draw my blood!" Elle struggled fiercely in Shirley Wentworth’s arms.
"Behave yourself!" Shirley Wentworth had little patience to coax him. She commanded, "Let them draw your blood quietly, or you’ll never see Vivian Quinn again!"
Elle’s reddened eyes glared at her, like a small, trapped beast.
Shirley Wentworth paid him no mind, forcefully holding him down for the doctor to draw his blood before having her own drawn as well.
She was in no mood for anything else, so she waited at the hospital, refusing to leave the premises until she had the results.
To pacify Elle, Shirley Wentworth had her driver go out and buy a LEGO set.
Elle’s attention was successfully diverted. He sat down at a small table and began to play.
Shirley Wentworth sat to one side, watching him. ’This is my son. He’s my son with Jett Sterling. There’s no way there’s been a mistake.’
’The hospital must have made a mistake. It must have!’
To Shirley Wentworth, those two hours felt like an eternity. She couldn’t sit still, rising to pace back and forth, unable to calm the anxiety churning inside her.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before the office door finally opened. "Miss Wentworth, the results are in."
