Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 174: Slapping Your Face by the Way
Shane Shaw put down his bag. "Boss, why are you crying? I haven’t even started crying yet!"
Vivian Quinn was sobbing uncontrollably. "I’m sorry..."
"I’ve been waiting for that ’I’m sorry’ for a long time. Why didn’t you ever say it to me!" Shane Shaw sounded incredibly aggrieved.
"I’ve been meaning to fly out and apologize to you in person, but things kept coming up. Shane, I’m so sorry."
"I forgive you." Shane Shaw pulled her into a hug. "Boss, you really should have told me about the whole thing with Mason Landon. At least I could have been by your side."
Vivian Quinn shook her head forcefully. "I sent you away because I was afraid of dragging you into this. If Mason Landon could poison me, he could have gone after you. I couldn’t let you get hurt in any way."
"Boss, I’m so glad. My boss has never changed."
"Of course. I’ll always be your boss, and our bond will never change."
"Yeah."
Vivian Quinn let him go, wiped the tears from her face, and asked, "Did you just get back? Are you hungry? I’ll go make you something to eat."
"Yes! I’ve been dying for your cooking, Boss!"
Vivian Quinn immediately went to the kitchen. Shane Shaw collapsed onto the sofa to rest, taking out his phone to snap a picture and post it on his social feed.
A moment later, a small figure ran over and asked, "Who are you? Why are you in my house?"
Shane Shaw took a closer look and jumped in fright, even dropping his phone. "What the—! Who are you?!"
"I’m Elle."
"Elle?" Shane Shaw scratched his head. Looking at the boy’s face, everything clicked. He dashed into the kitchen as if he’d seen a ghost. "Boss, Jett Sterling has an illegitimate son!"
"Why are you shouting? You’ll scare the child."
"...You knew?"
"He’s living here, so of course I know..." Vivian Quinn explained the whole story.
"It can’t be that much of a coincidence, can it? You went through all that, and now Jett Sterling has an illegitimate son? Is fate playing a joke on you two?"
Vivian Quinn smiled serenely. "No one can control the past, so there’s no point in getting hung up on it or wallowing in the pain. You have to look forward."
"You’re right, Boss!" Shane Shaw felt that the Vivian Quinn before him was different from before. "Boss, you’ve changed a lot. You seem so much brighter."
"Nonsense. I’ve always been bright."
"I’m serious!"
Vivian Quinn smiled. "I’m very grateful to Jett Sterling. He’s the one who pulled me out of the abyss."
"I know. Jett Sterling is genuinely good to you. Back when Mason Landon drugged you, he was willing to endure the pain himself just to save your life. I have to admit, I don’t know if I’m even capable of such a profound love."
Vivian Quinn reminded him, "Don’t say that in front of him, or he’ll get a big head."
"He has the right to be proud." Shane Shaw got back to business. "Boss, I know about the Shirley Wentworth you just mentioned. The Wentworth Family’s status in Aethelgard is on another level. They’re leagues above the Shaw Family."
Vivian Quinn nodded. "Jett Sterling also said the Wentworth Family is a force to be reckoned with."
"So the Wentworth Family has their sights set on a big prize like Jett Sterling?"
Vivian Quinn didn’t deny it. "Besides, Shirley Wentworth has always been infatuated with Jett Sterling. Otherwise, Elle wouldn’t exist."
"That’s disgusting!" Shane Shaw was furious. "If Jett Sterling wasn’t married, it would be one thing for her to come back with a child to claim her spot. But to come back and try to break up your marriage when she knows you’re together? That’s just shameless."
"That’s why I’m not going to be polite about it. It’s just that Elle is so pitiful. By keeping him here for treatment, I’ll inevitably have to see Shirley Wentworth."
"Don’t worry, Boss. We don’t have to be nice to someone who’s desperately trying to be a homewrecker!" Shane Shaw closed the kitchen door and lowered his voice. "You’re the Phantom Healer. How could you possibly lose to that Shirley Wentworth?"
"Oh, by the way, speaking of which, the reason I rushed back was because of a big job. But now that I think about it, you might not be willing to take it."
Vivian Quinn guessed what he was getting at. "Shirley Wentworth went through a lot of trouble to find you and ask for the Phantom Healer’s help with a treatment?"
"Smart as ever, Boss!"
"Putting everything else aside, Shirley Wentworth is indeed a good mother. She’s completely devoted to Elle." Vivian Quinn thought for a moment before saying, "I’m already doing my best with Elle’s illness. Even if I were to step in as the Phantom Healer, I couldn’t offer a better treatment plan. You should turn her down."
"But Boss, you need the money."
"I do want to make money, so I can buy a house for Joy someday. But in this situation, it would be like I’m just scamming her, wouldn’t it? There’s no need. And I’m above that."
Shane Shaw nodded. "You’ve got a point, Boss. Shirley Wentworth is basically a rival for your husband’s affection, so of course you wouldn’t take her money."
"Right."
Vivian Quinn made a simple bowl of noodles and served a small portion for Elle to try.
"Wow, this is delicious!" Elle was very complimentary. "Vivian can do it all! When I grow up, I hope I can marry Vivian."
Vivian Quinn: "..." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Shane Shaw: "..."
"Boss, is he really two and a half? He’s sharp as a tack!"
"He’s Jett Sterling’s son. Would you expect anything less?"
"Good point."
Vivian Quinn introduced them. "Elle, this is my good friend, Shane."
"Hi, Shane," Elle said obediently. "Any friend of Vivian’s is a friend of Elle’s. So you don’t have to be formal with me. If there’s any dirty or tiring work, just make Ian do it."
Shane Shaw was completely confused. "Who’s Ian? A servant in the house?"
Vivian Quinn couldn’t stop laughing. "Ian Sterling."
Shane Shaw: "..."
"Wow. He really is Jett Sterling’s son, daring to call the school tyrant ’Ian’!"
Vivian Quinn couldn’t resist affectionately stroking Elle’s head. "Elle, you’re the cutest!"
After they finished the noodles, Vivian Quinn carried Elle off for a nap and arranged a room for Shane Shaw to rest in.
Just as Elle fell asleep, there was a knock on the door.
Vivian Quinn hurried to open the door and saw Ian Sterling standing outside.
"Let’s talk outside. Elle just fell asleep."
The two of them went to the living room, where Ian Sterling eagerly began, "Vivian Quinn, I’ve got some freshly baked news. Want to hear it?"
"Stop being so dramatic," Vivian Quinn said. "You’re being so secretive. Does this news have something to do with me?"
"Sort of. The Wentworth Family just sent out a notice for a banquet next Saturday. They’re saying it’s to celebrate Shirley Wentworth’s return to the country, but a lot of people in Aethelgard’s high society know she came back with my uncle’s son. So this banquet is basically a public announcement, and a slap in your face!"
Vivian Quinn smiled serenely. "My face isn’t so easily slapped."
Ian Sterling put his arm around her shoulder. "Not bad, Vivian Quinn. You’re getting tougher. What, are you actually planning to go to this banquet?"
Vivian Quinn’s lips curved into a smile. "If I don’t go, won’t that be playing right into the Wentworth Family’s hands? It would make everyone think I’m hiding and too scared to show my face. Of course I’m going!"
