Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 134: She Will Die
"Vivian," the man on the sofa sat up, "what happened?"
In the dim light of the lamp, Vivian Quinn’s face was pale. "The hospital called. They said Joy is missing!"
Jett Sterling’s brow furrowed. "What happened?"
"I don’t know. I have to get over there right now!"
"Don’t panic just yet. I’ll go with you."
Jett Sterling got out of bed, changed his clothes, got into his wheelchair, and left with Vivian Quinn.
On the way there, he made a call, telling Easton Rivers to pull all the hospital’s surveillance footage to find out where Joy Chase went.
Vivian Quinn was worried sick the entire way, her hands anxiously twisting the hem of her down jacket, completely at a loss.
"Vivian." The man’s large, warm hand grasped her cold one. "Don’t be afraid."
For some reason, Vivian Quinn’s heart couldn’t help but settle.
She didn’t pull Jett Sterling’s hand away. Instead, she felt a hint of dependence on his warmth.
The car soon arrived at the hospital. They went upstairs to Joy Chase’s room and found a nurse there.
"What happened?" Vivian Quinn asked anxiously. "How could Joy be gone?"
"I don’t know! I came to do my rounds and found she was gone, and her wheelchair was gone too," the nurse said nervously. "I’ve searched the entire hospital, but I can’t find any sign of her!"
Vivian Quinn was frantic. "Joy wouldn’t just wander off. Could she have been kidnapped?"
The nurse panicked. "I really have no idea!"
"Master Sterling." Easton Rivers hurried over. "I found it. Here’s the surveillance footage!"
Vivian Quinn quickly took the phone from his hand and looked at the footage.
The footage showed that Joy Chase had waited until the nurse wasn’t looking, then quietly left the room in her wheelchair, holding the bouquet of baby’s breath from Mason Landon.
She took the elevator downstairs, left the hospital, and tried to hail a cab, but several drivers saw her in the wheelchair and refused to take her, thinking it would be too much trouble.
Unable to get a cab, Joy Chase had no choice but to give up and wheel herself away from the hospital.
The video ended with a shot of Joy Chase’s lonely back as she moved down the street, looking desolate and pitiful.
"What about after that?" Vivian Quinn asked urgently. "This video is from two hours ago. Where did Joy go? Should I call the police?"
"Vivian, calm down," Jett Sterling soothed. "Easton Rivers is already pulling up all the city’s surveillance feeds."
"Really?"
"Yes," Easton Rivers spoke up. "It just takes time. Please don’t worry. We just need to wait a little longer."
"Okay."
Vivian Quinn waited in Joy Chase’s hospital room. A moment later, the door suddenly opened and Mason Landon walked in. "Is Joy back?"
Leaning back on the sofa, Vivian Quinn closed her eyes again, ignoring him.
"Vivian." Mason Landon stepped forward. "Where on earth did Joy go?"
"I don’t know," Vivian Quinn replied coolly.
"Why the attitude?" Mason Landon asked, confused.
Vivian Quinn opened her eyes, stood up, and looked at him. "You have the nerve to ask me why? If you hadn’t been encouraging her this afternoon, would she have taken it upon herself to leave the hospital?"
"Vivian, how was I supposed to know Joy would leave the hospital? If I had known, would I have made that kind of suggestion?"
"What suggestion?" Jett Sterling asked.
"It has nothing to do with you." Vivian Quinn was overwhelmed with anxiety and frustration, and didn’t want to explain anything. "Anyway, Mason, I’m begging you, please stay out of my life from now on. I’m just so tired!"
Mason Landon closed his eyes for a moment, ultimately apologizing. "Vivian, I’m sorry. I really didn’t know Joy would disappear. This isn’t what I wanted to happen either."
Vivian Quinn shook her head in anguish. "I know you didn’t expect Joy to disappear, and I know I can’t blame you for it. But Mason, can I please, please ask you to stay far away from me and Joy."
Mason Landon’s hands, shoved in his pants pockets, clenched into fists. He didn’t say another word.
Before long, Easton Rivers’s phone finally rang.
Vivian Quinn’s heart leaped into her throat as she stared at Easton Rivers answering the call.
After hanging up, Easton Rivers said, "Master Sterling, Madam, we have news. The Sky Eye System’s surveillance shows Miss Chase entered a nearby amusement park and hasn’t come out yet!"
Vivian Quinn immediately bolted from the hospital room!
Jett Sterling steered his wheelchair to follow and ordered, "Get the car ready."
"Yes, sir."
As Vivian Quinn ran out of the hospital, she realized it had started snowing outside, and the temperature had dropped even further.
Her brow tightened, and she immediately got into the car.
During the drive, Vivian Quinn stared blankly at the swirling snow outside the window, murmuring to herself, "Joy is so sensitive to the cold. How can she possibly stand this weather?"
"Vivian, she’ll be okay." Jett Sterling took her hand. "Heaven will surely watch over you."
Vivian Quinn closed her eyes, but the expression on her face didn’t soften in the slightest.
When the group arrived at the amusement park, they found it was already closed!
"Easton, are you sure Joy didn’t leave the amusement park? But this place must have closed a long time ago!"
Easton Rivers quickly checked something and reported, "Madam, the park closes at ten o’clock, and all the staff leave by ten-thirty. But the surveillance definitely shows that Miss Chase never left the premises!"
Vivian Quinn’s head spun. "So you’re saying Joy is still inside? Why didn’t she come out? Could she have fainted in some corner? In this cold, she’ll freeze to death!"
Jett Sterling commanded, "Easton, start the search and rescue."
"Master Sterling, I’ve already contacted them. The staff are on their way."
"There’s no time to wait." Jett Sterling glanced at his phone and made a swift decision. "Break down the gate. We have to go in and search for her now."
"Yes, sir."
Several bodyguards took tools from the trunk, broke open the main gate, and the group went straight inside.
All the lights in the amusement park were off. Vivian Quinn used her phone as a flashlight, calling out as she searched, "Joy, it’s me, your sister! Where are you?"
"Joy!" Mason Landon shouted as well.
"Miss Chase!"
"Searching like this is too inefficient," Jett Sterling said. "Easton, call for backup. You stay here and wait for the staff. The moment they arrive, have them turn on the lights. Everyone else, spread out and search in different directions."
"Yes, sir."
Vivian Quinn thought for a moment, ran over to a park map, glanced at it, and immediately took off in one direction.
Jett Sterling immediately steered his wheelchair after her.
Mason Landon’s brow furrowed, and he followed as well.
"Joy! Joy!" Vivian Quinn felt colder and colder the further she went. The thought of Joy Chase in her wheelchair, even less able to withstand the cold than she was, made her heart ache so much she could barely breathe.
Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared indistinctly in the distance. After a moment’s hesitation, Vivian Quinn shot forward and saw that it was indeed Joy Chase!
"Joy!"
The girl in the wheelchair had already passed out, her body covered in a layer of white snow. Her hands, however, were still tightly clutching the bouquet of baby’s breath, and she showed no sign of life.
"Joy, don’t scare me!" Vivian Quinn hurriedly took the flowers from her hands and blew warm air onto her frozen fingers. "Joy, wake up! Your sister is here! Joy!"
