Chapter 116: Chapter 116: I Never Stopped Loving Her

Jett Sterling looked up, his eyes filled with killing intent!

The two men’s gazes clashed mid-air, and the atmosphere was thick with the suffocating smell of gunpowder!

"Get out," Jett Sterling said first.

"I should be the one saying that to you." Mason Landon closed the door and calmly walked to the hospital bed. "I’m making progress on the antidote for Vivian. I’ll have it developed soon, and she’ll wake up safe and sound. Now I want you to make good on your promise. Get the hell out."

Jett Sterling froze for a moment, then quickly said, "Why should I believe you?"

"You don’t have a choice. Vivian’s life is in my hands now. Or did you think those quacks you hired could actually cure her? Jett Sterling, money can’t solve everything in this world."

Jett Sterling’s hand gripping the armrest slowly tightened. "You know damn well why Vivian is in this state!"

"I never wanted to hurt her. She’s like this today all thanks to you. If you had never shown up, she wouldn’t have had to endure this torment. Jett Sterling, you never should have been in her life!" Mason Landon said coldly. "I’ll say it one last time: if you don’t want anything to happen to Vivian, honor your promise. Divorce her and stay far away from her!"

Jett Sterling slowly released his grip, glanced at the girl on the hospital bed, and painstakingly maneuvered his wheelchair to leave.

As soon as he opened the door, Easton Rivers hurried over. "Master Sterling, the medical team said it seems Mason Landon has made a new discovery, but he hasn’t shared it with them."

"I already know," Jett Sterling said in a low voice. "Tell them to continue their research."

"Yes, sir." Seeing him about to enter the elevator, Easton Rivers asked, "Master Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is still here. Where are you going?"

"There’s nothing for us to do here anymore."

Easton Rivers didn’t understand, but he didn’t dare to ask further. He could only follow him into the elevator and down to the parking garage.

Just as Jett Sterling got into the car, Shane Shaw’s voice suddenly called out, "Jett Sterling!"

Shane Shaw got in after him and asked, "My guess was right, wasn’t it? You’re only divorcing my boss because Mason Landon is blackmailing you, right?"

Jett Sterling was expressionless. "Does that matter?"

"Of course it matters! This is about my boss’s happiness!"

"I’d rather she be alive than have the ’happiness’ you’re talking about."

Shane Shaw was stunned for a second, then quickly realized. "You’re admitting it. I was right. It really was Mason Landon pulling strings behind the scenes... He poisoned Boss to threaten you, didn’t he?"

Jett Sterling didn’t deny it. "He did it during Vivian’s leg surgery, but it was completely traceless. Even Vivian herself didn’t notice anything was wrong. It was only after she fainted several times that I took her to the hospital for a detailed examination, and that’s when we discovered it. The doctor said the poison she was given was meticulously formulated. Even if they could develop an antidote, Vivian wouldn’t live long enough for it. I had no other choice but to accept Mason Landon’s threats."

Shane Shaw’s heart clenched. "I never thought Mason Landon could be so depraved. And I never expected you to willingly push her away for her own safety."

"Nothing is more important than keeping Vivian alive." Jett Sterling gave a slight, bitter twist of his lips. "She’s so young. She has such a long, long life ahead of her. I can’t let her die."

"But you’re in pain, aren’t you?" Shane Shaw pressed. "Every single word you said in front of the Civil Affairs Bureau was a lie. You never looked down on her. On the contrary, you love her very much, right?"

Jett Sterling closed his eyes in anguish. "I’ve never stopped loving her..."

Shane Shaw felt a sting in his nose, so moved he could barely hold back his tears. "Jett Sterling, I’m back now. You’re not alone. I’ll definitely help you fight Mason Landon!"

"Don’t be reckless." Jett Sterling opened his eyes and spoke calmly. "If I had any other choice, I wouldn’t be letting Mason Landon threaten me. Vivian is my weak spot. The slightest misstep could cost her her life, so I have to think through every decision carefully."

"I understand. Then let’s wait for Mason to cure my boss before we explain everything to her."

Jett Sterling gave a faint smile. "You’re being too naive. Since Mason Landon dared to threaten me, how could he not have another card up his sleeve?"

"Then what should I do?"

"Right now, there’s no other way. We can only compromise as much as possible. Besides, Vivian’s life is on the line, and the most important thing is to keep her alive." Jett Sterling turned to look at him. "Now that you know the truth, Mason will definitely come to you to ’vaccinate’ you—to threaten you into secrecy. Remember, for Vivian’s sake, you must agree unconditionally."

Shane Shaw nodded with difficulty. "Okay. For Boss’s sake, I won’t do anything reckless."

...

Just as Jett Sterling had predicted, the next morning, Shane Shaw received a call from Mason Landon. "I’ve developed the antidote."

"Then why haven’t you given it to my boss?"

"Shane, you’re not stupid. You should know why I’m calling you."

"I know. You want me to keep my mouth shut and not say a word."

"I’m doing this for your own good. To be honest, you shouldn’t have come back from abroad at all." Mason Landon chuckled on the other end of the line. "I can give Vivian the antidote and let her wake up safely. But just in case, I won’t completely cure her of the poison. So, if she learns the truth from you, or from anyone else, she’ll still die."

The hand Shane Shaw was holding his phone with trembled. "Mason, do you really love my boss? If you really loved her, you wouldn’t hurt her like this. You only love yourself!"

"I don’t need you to lecture me. You just need to do as you’re told. From now on, you will do whatever I say."

"You know I have no reason to refuse. Mason, you’re a monster!"

"I told you, I love Vivian. As long as Jett Sterling stays out of her world, I’ll make sure she has a good life. This doesn’t affect you in any way. She’ll still be your boss."

Shane Shaw hung up the phone and turned to the man beside him. "You heard all that. Mason has completely lost his mind."

There was no visible emotion on Jett Sterling’s handsome face. "I’ve said it before, all I want is for Vivian to live safely. Shane, promise me you won’t do anything that could threaten her life."

Shane Shaw’s hand slowly tightened around his phone. "I promise. I’ll stand by you and protect my boss together."

...

When Vivian Quinn woke up, she felt light, almost weightless, with no sense of reality.

The first thing she saw was Mason Landon’s handsome face. "Vivian, you’re finally awake."

Vivian Quinn tried to speak, but she didn’t have any strength.

Mason Landon removed the ventilator from her face. "You were poisoned. You had a close brush with death, but you pulled through. You’re out of danger now. Don’t be afraid. I’ll be right here."

Vivian Quinn’s voice was incredibly weak. "Where’s Shane?"

"Shane went out to get something to eat. I’ll call him and have him come back right now."

"Okay."

In less than twenty minutes, Shane Shaw rushed back, hugging Vivian Quinn and breaking down in tears. "Boss, you’re finally awake! You scared me to death!"

Vivian Quinn raised a hand to pat his head. "I’m okay now. Where’s Jett Sterling?"
