Wealthy Beauty in the 60s-Chapter 558 - 560: Mom, You Don’t Care About Social Status, Do You?
"Do whatever you want; if you have an idea, just go for it, I support you," Xia Xiao said, then added, "The county town is going to be designated a tourist area, so the land and housing prices will skyrocket. Feiteng, have you considered getting into real estate?"
Feiteng nodded, "I’ve thought about it. I think the housing market has a bright future. I’ve been planning on it, but I’m still too busy with the zoo to handle anything else."
Hearing that Feiteng was interested in real estate, Xia Xiao immediately started discussing it with him.
Feiteng’s eyes lit up, "Mom, let’s start a property company then. We can be developers, build and sell properties; it would be perfect for us to establish the Gaoxia Group."
"Okay," said Xia Xiao as she watched Feiteng, whose eyes were sparkling, and a smile appeared on her face.
While the mother and son were talking, Gao Guoqing’s wife came over. Mr. Gao and Li Shengmei’s real mother had passed away, and now Gao Guoqing’s wife was in charge.
Gao Guoqing’s wife had no fondness for her sister-in-law Li Shengmei, who was not related by blood. On hearing that Zheng Xianghong had come back, she came over to visit and looked at Li Shengmei with a hint of sarcasm.
Everyone in the production team knew how Li Shengmei used to target Zheng Xianghong. Only because Zheng Xianghong was easygoing did she let Li Shengmei come over, though it was shameless of Li Shengmei.
As soon as Li Shengmei saw her sister-in-law, her expression became unnatural. When Gao Guoqing’s wife had just married into the family, Li Shengmei had not yet married. Even though they were not related by blood, Mr. Gao, along with Gao Guoqing and Gao Guo Cheng, were all good to Li Shengmei.
The relationship between Li Shengmei and Gao Guoqing’s wife was not very harmonious, and since Li’s mother was the stepmother, Li Shengmei always worried her mother might be bullied by Gao Guoqing’s wife, often secretly trying to trip her up.
Back when Gao Guoqing’s wife had just married into the family, she just put up with Li Shengmei. Later, when Li Shengmei fussily refused to marry Gao Guoqiang, then also refused to marry Gao Guo Cheng and ended up marrying into the He family, Gao Guoqing’s wife avoided her even more.
Previously, with He Hongjun to back her up, Li Shengmei was unquestioned in the production team. Even Gao Guoqiang didn’t challenge her, and she held significant sway as the women’s director.
But now, Li Shengmei’s status in the Guangming Team was no longer what it used to be, and He Xuebing also hadn’t taken his mother to live in the army, making others mock her for not having her son’s affection.
They even compared Zheng Xianghong and Li Shengmei, which Li Shengmei heard and felt angry about, but she was well aware that her distance from Zheng Xianghong had grown far and wide. Li Shengmei was jealous, but despite feeling that way inside, she still liked talking to Zheng Xianghong.
Gao Guoqing was Gao Guoqiang’s cousin, and his wife was Zheng Xianghong’s cousin-in-law. Though the sisters-in-law didn’t talk much before, their relationship had been manageable.
When Gao Guoqing’s wife arrived, Li Shengmei couldn’t sit still anymore and immediately found an excuse to leave.
Since Gao Guoqing’s wife was there, naturally, she had something to discuss. She asked Zheng Xianghong about the zoo, "I heard that your family bought Nanhua Mountain to build a zoo."
"That’s true," Zheng Xianghong nodded and asked, "What about it?"
"It’s just Guangming, my husband; I hope he can change jobs," Gao Guoqing’s wife said.
"Isn’t Guangming doing well?" Zheng Xianghong asked.
"Guangming used to drive tractors, but now that doesn’t bring in much money. I was thinking, maybe your family’s zoo needs people? It’d be good for Guangming to work there."
As Gao Guoqing’s wife finished speaking, Zheng Xianghong hesitated a bit before responding, "I don’t really understand these things either. The zoo is now managed by Feiteng, you can ask Guangming to come over and take a look himself, but only if he’s willing. Otherwise, there’s no point in you worrying as a mother."
Gao Guoqing’s wife nodded in agreement, didn’t stay much longer, and indicated that she would go find Guangming.
After she left, Zheng Xianghong spoke with Xia Xiao and Feiteng. Xia Xiao still remembered Guangming and then looked at Gao Jiaxing, "Brother Gao, what do you think?"
"Guangming, let’s see what he can do," Gao Jiaxing said. "If it’s suitable, let him do it." Gao Jiaxing agreed with this because he had a good impression of Guangming, unlike some of the others whom Gao Jiaxing might consider a bit more.
Feiteng said, "No problem, we need more hands anyway, and we’ll recruit a batch soon."
After having dinner together, Guangming came to the door, and Gao Jiaxing and Feiteng chatted with him and agreed quickly.
Moreover, Gao Jiaxing, Xia Xiao, and Feiteng planned to visit the zoo the next day and asked Guangming to prepare to come along.
Guangming nodded and then left the Gao family’s home.
The zoo was still not completely finished. Although there were tall iron fences around the perimeter to prevent people from climbing in and causing accidents, the interior wasn’t ready yet.
Xia Xiao wanted to create a wildlife park, not a series of cages to keep animals for display, which meant that safety precautions had to be even stricter.
Feiteng was now too busy to do anything else, managing just the wildlife park kept him on his feet all the time, not even leaving room for dating.
Feiteng had previously pursued a woman who was a lawyer, whom he met through a friend during the time they were planning the zoo.
After Feiteng got to know her, he fell for her and, despite facing rejection several times, his persistence finally paid off, and he won her over. But now he was too busy to even spend time with his girlfriend.
"What are you thinking about? You’re totally zoning out," Xia Xiao gently scolded her son, while Gao Jiaxing and Guangming walked ahead, and Xia Xiao and Feiteng trailed behind. The young man was lost in thought and kept checking his phone, looking worried.
"Nothing much," Feiteng replied with a smile to Xia Xiao, looking radiant and handsome. Being the youngest in the family meant he was less supervised and more pampered by Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao, whereas Feiyang and Feiyue, the elder brothers, took care of the younger siblings.
"Aren’t you telling your mom the truth?" Xia Xiao’s eyes conveyed an implicit threat. Her son was growing up and keeping things to himself, unlike when he was little and would stick by her side and share everything.
Xia Xiao felt a slight regret, but as a mother, she was traveling around the world and didn’t have time to accompany her children much either.
"Mom, didn’t I tell you I have a girlfriend now?"
Xia Xiao hummed in acknowledgment and looked at Feiteng, "I know. How’s it going? When are you guys planning to get married?"
Feiteng was not very pleased and said, "Not even close. I’m busy, and she’s even busier. She agreed to date me, but if I don’t go see her, she doesn’t even bother to find me." Even messaging her doesn’t help — she neither replies to texts nor picks up calls.
"Where is she from? What do her parents do?" Xia Xiao couldn’t help but ask.
"She’s from City A; she has an elder brother. She told me her parents are civil servants, but I don’t know more than that. I like her as a person; why should I dig so deep? Mom, you surely don’t care about her family background, do you?"
