Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 229: Isn’t this a step down?
Main mission.
Follow your senior brothers and sisters to the Myriad Beast Valley and participate in the training session being held there.
When I saw this mission, I couldn’t help being completely caught off guard.
I wasn’t surprised by the fact that the system would suddenly give me a main mission like this since it had already happened before...
Well, no...that’s a lie.
I was a bit surprised since the system had been completely silent since we came back from the Void Battlefield. So I was a bit surprised that the system would suddenly break that silence by giving this main mission.
But the majority of that surprise came from another reason.
"Are you sure that this is the main mission that you want to give?"
It wasn’t that I wanted to question the system, but I really had to question it when I read the mission that it gave me this time.
After all...
"Isn’t this considered a step down?"
The two main missions that the system gave me before this one was winning the alchemy tournament and going to the Void Battlefield.
No matter how one looked at it, it was clear that those two main missions were much bigger than this mission. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
It seemed like the system was taking a step down with this main mission.
Did that mean that there was something big that was about to happen with this training session or was it because the system was actually going easy on him?
I was naturally very confused as these thoughts passed through my mind, but there was no response from the system as I asked these questions.
It seemed like the system had gone back to the same thing it always did.
It was going back to being silent when it didn’t want to talk to me.
There was a bitter feeling that filled me when the system did this, but all I could do was...
"Does that mean that I shouldn’t go since there’s something bad that’s about to happen? Is there any punishment for failing the main mission?"
That was the path that I was taking since there was no such thing as a punishment for these main missions.
In the beginning, there had been a punishment line that was added in when the system gave me a main mission so that I did what I could to finish these main missions. But now it seemed like the system had forgotten about these punishment lines, which made me less motivated.
When the system heard this, it had no choice but to speak up.
"Host, if you do not go on this mission, then something bad will happen to the senior brothers and sisters of the host."
The way that it said this was almost like it was a threat, but I knew better than that.
Like always, there was something that the system knew that it didn’t tell me which was the main reason why it had released this mission in the first place. It seemed like there was some kind of goal that the system wanted to accomplish and it was using the main missions to guide me.
Of course, I was getting smarter with the system.
It didn’t say that I would be punished if I didn’t go, so that meant that if I pushed it a bit, I would be able to...
"What if I just tell them that something bad will happen and have them cancel the training session. If we do that, then no one will be in danger, right?" I made sure to have a smug tone in my voice as I said this.
I was making sure that the system could hear that I was doing all that I could to exploit a loophole in its system.
The system was speechless since there was nothing that it could say when I used this kind of logic against it.
It really felt like I had won, but it also felt like something was off.
Winning against the system was not something that had happened before, so it was strange that it was happening for the first time.
It almost felt wrong...
But I couldn’t back down now or else the system might think that I was a pushover.
However, it turned out that the system was silent because it was gathering itself.
It was gathering itself because...it was making one final move.
"This mission was given for the benefit of the host. If the host does not take it, then something bad might happen to the lower realm that the host is on." The system said in an exasperated voice.
It was almost as if it was acknowledging its defeat, but the way that it did it...
I was shocked the moment that I heard this.
The system was making the mission seem much more important than it actually was, or that was what one might think just from hearing this. After all, for a mission to involve the safety of an entire lower realm...
This seemed like a bit of an exaggeration.
However, I knew that the system was not one to kid around like this.
If it was saying something like this, I really had to take it seriously since it was likely that this was indeed the case.
After all, the system wouldn’t just release a main mission without any reason.
All of the main missions that the system released before had been done because of a specific reason for those main missions.
In the end, most of the main missions had been given by the system to help me...even if there was a bit of doubt that filled me after the mission in the Void Battlefield.
But for now, it really seemed like the system wanted to help me...
So at the very least, I should give it the benefit of the doubt and go along with this main mission that it issued for me.
"Alright, I’ll take this mission. I hope that you can be more honest with me in the future."
"Host, everything that the system does is for the benefit of the host. Please have faith in the system."
"Have faith in you...alright, I’ll have faith for now."
