Villain's Survival: SSS Class Infinite Copy Eyes-Chapter 28. The fall
Chapter 28: 28. The fall
Unfortunately, the eerily familiar figure didn’t seem to care about Charlotte’s thoughts, and it stepped closer.
"You failed," the shadow said again, the voice calm but sharp.
"Not just yourself. You failed your brother. You failed our entire family."
Charlotte just looked on and didn’t respond
"You made a promise, didn’t you? You swore revenge but you couldn’t even do that!"
Each word the shadow spoke was like a thrown stone hitting Charlotte’s crumbling statue.
"You know the truth, Charlotte. You’re not strong. You’re not talented. "
The figure stepped closer, and as it did so, its voice grew louder, each word booming in her ear like thunder
"You’re not your brother."
Its words stabbed deep, slicing through the last fragile threads holding her together.
"Join them."
The wind picked up.
"What?" asked Charlotte
"Leave this world behind. Join your family and Be whole again."
Join her family...
As an orphan, Charlotte knew what those words meant.
Death.
All her life, that word had carried a scary and ominous aura, but strangely enough, at that moment... high in the sky with winds raging behind her, that thought didn’t scare her.
Yes... maybe I should?
Charlotte thought about it and realised
What was left for her here?
The world didn’t trust or believe in her. Her revenge was a failure. Her strength and pride that she had once cared about were completely shattered.
There were no benefits to staying, but if she left now... she wouldn’t have to feel this anymore.
No pain. No rage. No shame.
Just peace.
She turned back toward the ledge and One foot stepped forward.
As she stepped forward, Charlotte could see the abyss stretched wide beneath her, but there was no fear in her eyes
’Can I leave all this hatred behind...’
’Can I... be happy again?’
The wind whipped across her face. Her dull eyes shimmered faintly beneath the moonlight like pearls as her hair was scattered like falling petals by the cold night air.
Charlotte was pressing her neck against the grim reaper’s scythe, but she didn’t feel a single burden; instead, she felt...
weightless!
This euphoric weightlessness felt like it would last until eternity
That was until—
"CHARLOTTE, STOP!"
A voice broke through the night like lightning.
Charlotte froze.
Slowly, she turned her head.
There—on the rooftop—stood Licht.
Suddenly, emotion surged back into her dull eyes.
It was an emotion she was trying to forget and give up on
Hatred!
"Licht?! What are you doing here?!"
Her hand flew to her side instinctually reaching for her sword
But her fingers grasped nothing.
My sword... it’s not here...
All of a sudden, the memory of the duel came back and hit her like a brick wall.
Her fists shook.
She couldn’t have stopped him then, and she couldn’t have stopped him now
Even if she had her sword... nothing would change.
Nothing would ever change.
So why stay?
She couldn’t beat Licht in life, so she could at least take some small revenge in death
With that, Charlotte gave him Licht one last beautiful, broken smile.
Then let herself fall.
"NO!"
Licht’s eyes widened.
"This crazy bitch has really gone and done it... she doomed the whole damn world!"
Licht didn’t think. He couldn’t think.
He just moved.
Lightning exploded beneath his feet as he launched himself off the edge without a second thought.
He dove after her, reaching forth desperately
’Faster. Just a little faster—’
Licht soon caught Charlotte in his arms and caught her
Then—
「Dragon Soul Guard (S)」 has been activated.
A thunderous roar echoed through the night as a spectral silver dragon burst into existence, coiling around them in midair like a divine guardian.
BOOM!
They hit the ground with earth-shaking force.
The dragon’s wings wrapped around them, shielding their bodies in a cradle of blazing silver light.
It hurts!
It fucking hurts!
Licht winced as feeling bones rattle as air was crushed from his lungs, but still didn’t let go.
He held Charlotte tighter.
She was alive.
Licht wanted to scream and roll around the n pain!
But when he looked at the stunned girl who still lay on his chest, his body simply wouldn’t allow him to wail around a complain
Your Trait 「A Valtier’s Pride (S)」has activated
Licht just stared down at the girl in his arms with cold indifference.
But despite the sharp pain flaring up from his back, there was something else more urgent that he had to consider
When he’d received the emergency notification about Charlotte’s life being in danger, he’d expected an external threat. An enemy. A monster. Something he could fight.
He never expected this.
’She had tried to kill herself.’
A knot formed in Licht’s chest. Not out of pity. That was too generous an emotion for someone like him. No—it was guilt.
’I’m really a horrible person.’ Thought Licht
Guilt with no action... was a disgusting, hypocritical feeling, especially coming from Licht.
Earlier that day, he’d humiliated her in front of the entire academy. Lied. Manipulated. Twisted her into a joke to preserve his life.
He had told himself it was necessary, that any reasonable person in his situation would’ve done the same thing. Although he humiliated her, it was better than dying, right?
That’s what he had thought, but now?
Now he was faced with a reality the game never showed him.
He hadn’t just defeated Charlotte... he had shattered her.
He had driven her to this state.
As Licht was having these thoughts, Charlotte stirred weakly in his arms.
"Licht... you saved me," she whispered.
"Why?"
Charlotte’s voice trembled, barely louder than the wind.
Licht looked down into Charlotte’s dull, empty eyes and what he saw made something twist inside him.
He was no psychologist, but in that moment, as a fellow human, he knew
Charlotte wasn’t truly looking for answers.
She was looking for someone.
Someone to reach out. To pull her back from the abyss. To tell her she mattered.
Licht opened his mouth.
But before he could speak—
