Chapter 25: Crash

Oberyn continued to speed away into the darkness, but quickly learned the hard way to never underestimate Marxie. The giant dart she threw at him didn't just explode - it disappeared into tiny shards of crystal. He'd flown right past it, and suddenly the crystals began to cling to his wings and grow.

They weighed him down until finally the crystals burst again. His wings blew apart, covered in cuts and tears. He fell from the sky, keeping his wings steady just long enough to be able to break his fall.

His wings blew apart, torn into ribbons of blood and feathers. Agony lanced through him, his body twisting as the world spun.

He crashed into the dirt, the impact rattling his bones. Dust filled his lungs. His ribs screamed in protest as he forced himself to sit up. Pain. So much pain.

He tried to summon his wings again, but nothing happened. Just the throbbing emptiness where they should be. It would take them some time to recover.

The city bells rang in the distance. He was a fugitive now. No home. No future.

But his heart knew exactly where he needed to go.

"Ezra..."

...

The next morning, Ezra woke up slowly. He was wrapped up in sheets in his new room - his new home.

He flopped over. For a moment, it almost felt like his first life. Just another quiet, lonely morning.

As he glanced around the still-unfamiliar space, however, he remembered clearly where he was. Rav, the 'Sage of the Clouds', had given him a place to stay in his palatial pagoda up high in the mountains.

The mana was thin here, according to Rav. Even Magicians like him didn't have to worry about causing a 'Torrent' or overload, no matter how much mana he used.

His room was of modest size - dark wood, and not much in terms of decorations. His sheets were silky smooth against his bare skin, grounding him in the moment, preventing him from drifting completely into wonderland.

As he mentally scanned over his body, he peeked under the sheets. 'Morning wood'.

His first two days had been such a whirlwind, he never really had time to inspect and learn about his new body. But as he peered down, he learned quite a lot.

"Mm..."

Ezra rolled against the sheets. It only made his excitement grow - they were so soft, caressing his body.

He hesitated for a moment. If he grew any more curious, he might end up with a mess on his hands. And as he looked around, he wasn't sure what he could 'clean' with.

He'd have to ask Rav about the availability of tissues in this world. And how to wash the sheets.

He stood up and walked over to the mirror. His first time getting a real, private opportunity to inspect himself. He ran his arms over his body, feeling himself all over. Getting familiar with it.

His biceps were large and round, his pectorals wide and defined. His waist was slim, but every part of his stomach was toned and hard. In his world, he'd have called it a 'swimmer's physique'.

And his manhood was...quite a bit larger than he was used to. He seemed to have a lot of stamina, too. Even from the relatively innocuous search, he was still primed and ready to go if he wanted.

Seemed this body was easily excitable. Good to know - one of the perks of swapping into this new world was an opportunity to have a sex life that didn't suck.

He slid his hands down his torso, tracing each muscle as he admired himself. This body was practically sculpted for desire. Everything about it was leagues ahead of his old self.

He smirked at his reflection before pulling open the wardrobe. He had plenty of options, but his eyes locked onto something flowy - a kimono, its fabric light and loose. He imagined how it would cling in all the right places, but let the breeze touch his skin.

Might as well enjoy what I've got.

He stared into the mirror for a few moments longer. Violet eyes, he noted. Now he finally knew what color his eyes were. And they were beautiful.

Nothing compared to the soft, honeyed amber glow of Oberyn's, though...

He felt his member twitch just at the thought of the Nephilim.

His chest tightened. Not just attraction.

This is real.

He had felt plenty of lust before. But this was different—Oberyn wasn't a character in a book. He was someone Ezra had fought, feared, trusted...

Wanted.

When he finally walked out of his room, he saw Rav already up and ready for the day. He was curled up in the outdoor seating area nestled within a beautiful garden and lily pond directly in the center of the pagoda.

"Hello, Alc- I mean, Ezra," Rav quickly corrected himself. "I see you went for the flower kimono. Excellent choice. Did you sleep well?"

"Oh, yeah!" Ezra said excitedly. "Some of the best sleep of my life. That bed is comfy!"

Rav smiled softly. "Glad you like it. That was once Alcor's room, you know. Long ago."

His voice carried such wistfulness on it, befitting someone who was a 'Sage of Clouds'.

"Not like he spent much time there, at the end..."

Rav brushed the passing thought away before Ezra could dig deeper.

"So what's the plan for today?" Ezra said, stretching. "Off to kill some monsters? Maybe visit town and see what we can get up to?"

Rav laughed. "You're like a puppy. So eager to see and play. My plan? Sit right here until bedtime. I only go to the village once a month or so. Being as famous as I am..." he yawns, "Gets exhausting."

"You just hang out at home all day?"

Rav smirked. "I'm half-cat, what do you expect? Why, what sort of adventures do you want to get up to? I'm pretty popular in town. I could have some cute Ferin come around, if you desire. You could also take a crack at some of the local variety, if you'd like. I know that body of yours well."

Ezra blushed. "Wait, you and Alcor weren't -"

Rav winked. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

Suddenly, Ezra felt embarrassed.

"Oh, don't make that face," Rav laughed. "I know, I know. I can tell from your eyes. You want that Asteria Magician, and nobody else will do. Isn't that right?"

Ezra was still red. "It's not like that..."

Ezra thought about it some more. Maybe it was like that.

"I came to this world to find love. Real life. Not just casual fun. I think that's the best way I can put it."

"Love, hm? Asked the Storyteller just for that, did you?"

"Basically."

Ezra hesitated. He had one question a day to ask Rav - and he already had a promise that Rav would help him find Oberyn. So, his mind naturally drifted to the next pressing thing.

"Rav. Tell me everything you know about the Storyteller. Please."

A glint of light shone in the Ferin's eyes. "Ah. You want to have that talk. Very well. It's time you learned about this world - and the System she has given you."
