Chapter 209: Chapter-209

Kaya’s eyes widened, her face frozen in a dumbfounded expression. What the—?

Without thinking, she kicked Veer straight off the bed. Since it wasn’t made of wood or anything solid, he just tumbled onto the ground with a heavy roll.

"Ouch..." Veer groaned, squinting his eyes half open. His voice came out lazy and husky, dripping with exhaustion. "Darling... no more. I’m so tired."

Kaya’s mouth fell open in disbelief. "You idiot! What the hell did you do?"

At that moment, the hide around her chest slipped slightly, and Veer’s gaze locked onto her. His sleepy eyes softened into a slow, hazy smile as if he had stumbled upon something delightful.

Her face burned hot. In a rush, Kaya yanked the hide back up, then swung it across Veer’s face with a sharp slap. "You bastard! What did you do?!"

The sting made Veer flinch, his mind stirring awake from its haze. He blinked at her, his hand covering his chest, and then his expression twisted into wounded accusation. His tone carried the drunken slur of a man both pitiful and shameless.

"You... monster!" he said dramatically. "Here I thought you were just a normal girl. Who would’ve believed you molested me?"

Kaya’s mouth dropped open in disbelief, her words stumbling out. "Molested... me?!"

Her voice rose, sharp and trembling. "What the hell are you even saying?"

Veer shot back without hesitation, his tone stubborn, almost accusing. "Yes—you! Do you think I molested you? Look at yourself! If I had, do you honestly think you’d have left me alive?"

For a moment, Kaya froze. As dramatic as Veer was acting, there was a sliver of truth in his words. If he had dared to touch her, she wouldn’t just have beaten him—he’d already be dead. The gun she kept hidden under her bed for protection was proof enough of that. The chances of him forcing her were close to none.

But the idea that she had forced him... the thought made her shudder. She, who had lived for years like a nun, completely uninterested in men, untouched by desire—how could this even be possible? The accusation felt like a blade against her honor.

And worse—if her mentor ever heard of it, her fate was sealed. She could already imagine herself nailed alive on the Honor of Soldiers board, her reputation torn apart in front of everyone.

Kaya’s eyes narrowed as she scanned him from head to toe. Other than the red imprint of her slap still hot on his cheek, there was nothing... except—

Her stomach dropped.

There, across his chest and shoulder, were faint bite marks. Clear. Obvious. Marks that had no business being there.

Kaya froze, heat rushing to her face. No... it can’t be. Did I—?

Before she could form a thought, Veer stretched lazily, one hand brushing across the marks as if to flaunt them. A crooked grin tugged at his lips.

"See these?" he drawled, tapping one with mock innocence. "If this isn’t evidence, then what is? Darling, you really were... wild last night."

Her jaw nearly hit the floor. "You—!"

Veer leaned closer, his sleepy eyes glinting with mischief. "Don’t look so shocked. It’s not like I’m complaining. Though..." His grin widened. "If you keep staring at me like that, I might start blushing."

Kaya’s heart pounded with fury and shame. "Blushing?! You shameless idiot—!"

Veer’s eyes shifted, watching her with a strange mix of mischief and mock innocence. Then, in a voice dripping with false sincerity, he said,

"If you don’t believe me... you can ask the whole tribe."

Kaya froze, her expression stiffening.

Veer let out a pitiful sigh, lowering his lashes like some delicate bride on her wedding night. "After all," he murmured sadly, "the loud noises we made last night... the whole tribe must have heard them."

Her face went completely blank. "...What?"

That was all she could manage.

Veer’s lips stretched into a dazzling grin, his eyes sparkling with wicked delight. "Of course! Everyone heard. Wolves, even the birds! You know animals have very sharp hearing... so naturally, the whole tribe will know."

He leaned back smugly, folding his arms behind his head. "Ah, what a pity. My reputation as a pure, innocent man... gone in one night."

Kaya’s eye twitched.

"And you," Veer continued, pointing at her dramatically, "have no idea how hard it is to walk out tomorrow with everyone looking at me, whispering, There goes the man who was eaten alive by his own wife!"

"VEER!" Kaya shouted, her face flaming.

Veer slipped into his shirt, still grinning like a devil. "I’m gonna... uh, go do some exercise," he announced casually, as though nothing earth-shattering had just happened. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

And with that, he strolled out, whistling under his breath.

Kaya sat frozen, staring at the doorway he had disappeared through. Disbelief etched across her face. Slowly, she dropped her head into her hands, her entire body sagging with despair.

The whole world is destroyed...

That was the only thought echoing in her mind.

She clenched her fists. She couldn’t stay in this tribe anymore. No way. She would leave. Today.

Her resolve lasted all of three seconds before she shifted in place and winced. A sharp ache shot up her back, making her groan. She rubbed it, gritting her teeth.

"...Tomorrow," she muttered under her breath. "I’ll leave tomorrow."

The very thought of stepping outside right now, of meeting people’s gazes—imagining them whispering behind her back, laughing, replaying Veer’s stupid words in their heads—made her shudder so hard it felt like her skin would crawl off her bones.

She curled up tighter, pressing her face into her palms. No. Not today. Not with these people. I can’t.

Just the thought alone was enough to make her cringe so deeply she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.

Just as Kaya had decided, she didn’t step a single foot outside her room the whole day. Half of it she spent sleeping, the other half pretending to sleep.

But haven’t you heard? If you don’t go to trouble, trouble will come knocking for you.
