Chapter 68: 68:A stupid trial

"Stop worrying, this is nothing but a formality. A show of power."

I said to Luna, who was busy buttoning up my coat. She had already missed a couple of buttons in her haste. It showed her worry.

She sighed and finished buttoning before stepping back. She avoided meeting my eyes until I forced her to look up at me.

"Are you that worried really?"

She nodded.

"You cannot ignore the possibility that those charges might be really real, this would warrant exile or execution."

She said her voice was barely a whisper. I chuckled, I liked it when she was this worried.

"If it gets really worse, we can just break out of the capital. War doesn’t sound that bad."

I said pulling her into my arms. She reluctantly hugged me back. I could feel her hands shaking.

"Okay, master, I trust you."

I nodded.

"Let’s go face my trial then. It’s going to be fun."

Luna nodded and stepped behind me. Despite reassuring luna, i was still skeptical.

I walked to the sitting area to find the royal guard captain waiting.

"Good morning, Captain."

I greeted him without stopping as I headed for the door.

"Good morning young master." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

He answered before following after us. Seraph had already left earlier something about going to find out what was going on and contacting mother since our image stone had been restricted.

I didn’t stop her. It was better if she were busy, or she would be worrying and fumbling around.

"Please."

The captain gestured at the carriage. I wasn’t using anything from the family and the prepared carriage had restrictions around it.

The moment I entered, I would not be able to get out until we reached our destination. I was really being treated like a criminal.

"Sir Drakein placed the restrictions on the carriage."

The captain said smugly after noticing my hesitation. Sir Drakein was a twenty four star fire mage one of the strongest magicians.

He rarely interfered in political matters, but when getting a few requests, he wouldn’t hesitate to fulfill them. Since he was stronger than me, I would basically be trapped after entering.

"His creations are a marvel indeed. "

I said and got into the carriage. Luna was fortunately allowed to follow me into the carriage.

"Young master, I hope it’s comfortable inside."

The captain said and shut the door before I could respond. The disrespect was blatant. If it were normal, he would never, but right now, he saw me as nothing but a criminal.

"Does the guard have a family?"

I asked Luna pointlessly as the carriage started to move.

"I’m not really sure master."

Luna responded. I leaned back sinking into the comfortable seat. Despite it being a prison of some sort, the carriage was comfortable. I closed my eyes, sinking into pointless thoughts.

"We’ve arrived. "

Luna’s sweet voice came, and the carriage slowed to a stop.

"Young master, we have arrived."

The captain’s voice said before the door was opened. Luna got out of the carriage, and I followed behind.

"I never thought I would be here as a criminal. "

I said in wonder looking at the castle like black buildings.

The royal courthouse.

This was a place where they convinced nobles or solved petty noble cases. Since it was inside the palace grounds, only nobles were allowed in, and there were a lot of them.

They had probably come to see the circus I had been pulled into.

"Let’s go."

The captain led the way walking hurriedly.

"What do you think he has done?"

"I don’t know, murder?"

"That’s too little, he’s the Iron Lady’s child, that is not enough reason for the royals to react."

"Maybe it’s just for show?"

"You want to play with the duchess’s son, that is suicide. "

"Then what is going on? This is frustrating since they only allow chosen nobles inside. Unless they tell us we are just going to keep on speculating. "

"He must have done something big to warrant such a reaction."

"The war bells are ringing. How long has it been?"

Whispers dominated the area as we disappeared into the courthouse, the door shutting behind us loudly like a decree.

"Are we there yet?"

I placed my hands in my pockets as I looked around the large hallway. Golden ceiling, white walls, and golden mixed marble floors.

This just screamed we are rich and you’ve got to know it. The opulence was damming especially for a place meant to represent justice.

’They never really.’

"We are here," the captain said and came to a stop turning to us," your slave cannot be allowed past here."

I nodded and turned to Luna. I ran my hand through her hair before turning back to the captain.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Luna move and stand on the right side of the door. She would be the first thing that I saw when I left the court.

"Open the door."

"Tsk.."

The captain clicked at my condescending tone but still pushed the massive golden and black door open. It was time to show my prestige as a noble.

I walked through the open doors, alone. It felt as though I was walking into a snake’s mouth, but where there is danger, there is also treasure.

"Walk to the stand!"

The judge’s voice boomed the moment the door closed behind me. Inside wasn’t much different, a high seat where the king, prince, and saintess were sitting. Just below them was the judge.

The courtroom was concave in the middle with the stand in the middle. The viewers were seated around. I walked down the stairs and stood in the middle.

"Lucian!"

Seraph’s voice broke through the silence. I turned to look to my left. She was sitting at the bottom-most seat, which was nearer to where I was standing.

I smiled and waved at her. She rolled her eyes in response, but I could see the dark circles under her eyes. A lot of familiar faces were also sitting among the audience.

"Silence!"

The judge’s voice came. I turned to look up at him. His eyes were glowering down at me, clearly annoyed at my nonchalance.

"Can I know why I’m being made into a spectacle? It’s annoying. "

I said leaning against the stand. The judge looked as if he was going to kill me while gasps echoed in the courtroom.

"Very well. Lucian Bloodmoor you are being convicted for injuring the saint and mass murder."

"Ha...ha..ha.. this is the funniest thing I have ever heard. Hearing you say it makes it even funnier."

I couldn’t help myself. When Blair sent me the bogus charges they had made up, I was floored. They were clearly scrapping anything together to peg me down.

"I apologize for that outburst, it was quite unbecoming of me, but pray tell, when did I commit these offences I am being accused of?"

I continued after the small laugh. The judge was getting angrier and angrierwhile i got more amused.

A small sniffling sound filled the courtroom breaking the rising tension in the air.

I looked up to see the saintess crying, her body trembling. She looked down at me as thought i had done the most horrendous thing.

"Young master Lucian, I know you hate the God of light, but attacking my brother and almost blindinghim, that was not only cruel but also selfish of you."

Her voice worked hypocritising most of the people present. Whispers started to spread with everyone shooting daggers at me.

The girl knew her importance to the kingdom. I turned to look at Seraph, who didn’t seem fazed; her belief in me was clearly written on her face.

"When did I do that? If I remember correctly, it was just a normal fight among students. Accidents happen, or was what the headmaster said a lie?"

The academy headmaster, who had been looking at me since the moment I came in, startled. He had clearly not expected me to pull him in.

"That begets the point. Harming the kingdom’s future savior, isn’t that destroying the kingdom from the inside?"

The prince chimed in before the headmaster could talk. I glanced at the judge to find him quiet. Guess he’s letting the interrogation continue.

"If I wanted to harm the kingdom, I would have slit his throat for the disrespect he dared to show. How can a commoner disrespect a noble? Have we fallen this far?"

Gasps and whispers filled the room.

"Silence!"

The king who had been quite shouted. Everyone went quiet and turned to look at him.

"The moment the church endorsed our saviours, their status as commoners was removed, young master Lucian. Hence, you attacked a fellow noble. That’s a crime worthy of exile."

I chuckled, this old crook really had problems with his tongue.

"Do you dare to exile me?"

The king didn’t answer but the look he shot me was enough to kill me a thousand times.

"Let’s not fight over this, the God of light has chosen to forgive his sins."

I visibly rolled my eyes.

"I’m honoured i guess," said sarcastically and turned to the judge," about the other charges?"
