Chapter 84: Li Dayu’s Reflections on Turning 80

She felt wronged. Is it a crime to be well-developed? What kind of twisted logic is that?

Because of what Wang Jian had said, Cai Qiong now looked at him with a tinge of resentment.

"When I practiced medicine in the United Kingdom, I never encountered such a situation."

Wang Jian raised his eyebrows. Hearing Cai Qiong’s claim, he immediately retorted in disbelief, "Are you sure?"

At this counter-question, Cai Qiong hesitated. Even Ren Yu looked over and chimed in to support Wang Jian. "I’ve also heard it’s especially chaotic in the UK. Have you really never run into anything like that?"

Cai Qiong said awkwardly, "Well, it’s not that I haven’t, but they were just perverts, I guess."

"Whoa." Seeing that Cai Qiong didn’t look like she had been victimized, Wang Jian felt no qualms. His interest piqued, he asked directly, "Do the rich people over there have really extreme tastes? I’ve heard that some psychotherapists abroad even offer specialized whipping sessions for clients to vent their emotions, and it’s the wealthy who are especially into that."

"..." Cai Qiong shot him a look. Seeing Ren Yu’s eyes were also wide with curiosity, she slowly nodded. "It’s not really a secret, so I can tell you. The more high-end and private the psychological counseling center, the more varied the specialized services it offers. They have everything you can imagine, and even things you can’t... truly everything."

Things I can imagine, and things I can’t?

Wang Jian subconsciously glanced over Cai Qiong’s body, his gaze sizing her up from head to toe.

Even without looking directly at him, Cai Qiong felt his extremely invasive stare. When she glanced over, their eyes met. Knowing exactly what he was thinking, she immediately snapped, "What’s on your mind?"

"I’m not thinking about anything," Wang Jian coughed lightly, showing no guilt at being caught. He said with a calm expression, "Please, continue."

Continue my ass!

Cai Qiong almost couldn’t stop herself from cursing. Regardless of Wang Jian’s current mental state, she had already decided to label him a pervert. Though she was thinking this, Cai Qiong continued her story. "Ren Yu is right; it is pretty chaotic over there. Luckily, I was aware of some of the gray areas before I went, so I prepared ways to avoid them from the start. You could say I managed to escape being victimized by those unsavory situations.

"However, those special requests for services are quite interesting. Some tycoons develop a need for and find satisfaction in the sensation of pain, both psychologically and physically. It’s a fascinating phenomenon. If you set aside society’s unaccepting views, it’s actually a way to relax.

"Moreover, when I was practicing medicine abroad, I treated a couple who were into this sort of thing. They both felt guilty about their hobby, terrified of being discovered and gossiped about, so they accumulated a tremendous amount of stress. I had to guide them to open up. They started coming for weekly chats and eventually emerged from that darkness. As far as I know, not only has their hobby not had any negative effects, but it has also made their relationship incredibly strong. They’ve been married for fifteen years, but they still act like a couple who just started dating.

"So, you see, if it’s not an actual perversion but just a particular hobby at specific times, it’s not necessarily a bad thing."

To Ren Yu, who was sitting nearby, these words felt like a form of validation. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she recalled how she acted like a cat around Wang Jian, even enjoying it when he stroked her head. It seemed very similar to the special hobbies Cai Qiong described.

But even with Cai Qiong’s explanation, Ren Yu wasn’t foolish enough to expose her own tendencies. After all, if people knew about something like that, they would definitely look at her strangely.

Compared to her, Wang Jian had no such worries. He was simply fascinated, asking with genuine curiosity, "Wow, psychologists really are different. You get to see a side of people they don’t usually show."

Cai Qiong fully agreed with his sentiment. She nodded and said, "Indeed. And what I just described is child’s play. Far more frightening are the psychological case studies of serial killers..."

She trailed off, then turned to Wang Jian and Ren Yu. "You two must encounter interesting cases as well, right?"

"We do, but they’re mostly just trouble," Wang Jian nodded, muttering.

Ren Yu quickly picked up the conversation. "Didn’t Brother Jian hold a free clinic a few days ago? A thug brought an old man over, trying to use the old man’s health insurance card. When he left, he was incredibly arrogant, telling Brother Jian to watch his back when walking home at night."

"Oh?" Now this was a good case study. Cai Qiong’s interest was piqued. Very curious about Wang Jian’s reaction, she quickly asked, "And then what happened?"

"What happened next was also quite interesting," Ren Yu said, chuckling at the memory. "Those two guys looked really vicious. They were huge, around six-foot-three, with bulging muscles and tattoos. They had that whole murderer vibe, you know?"

"Yes, people like that do sound terrifying."

Cai Qiong imagined it. If she were threatened like that, she’d probably be scared out of her wits. Curious about Wang Jian’s reaction, she glanced at him, only to see him looking completely unconcerned, as if the incident hadn’t affected him at all.

Unsure if he was just putting on an act, Cai Qiong pursed her lips and waited for Ren Yu to continue.

Ren Yu went on, "Actually, I was scared too, haha. But that afternoon..." Thinking about how she had stormed off in a huff because of Wang Jian that afternoon, Ren Yu couldn’t help but glare at him before continuing, "I got off work early, and those two guys cornered me on the road."

Ren Yu’s subtle glance didn’t escape Cai Qiong’s notice, but she was more focused on what happened. "Why did they corner you?"

Ren Yu burst out laughing. "Hahaha, this is the funny part."

"Those two are terrified of dying. They didn’t corner me to hurt me; they just wanted to beg me to put in a good word for them. They just wanted to be treated," Ren Yu explained between laughs. "At the time, everyone in our village thought I’d been kidnapped and even called the police. It all turned out to be a big misunderstanding. When everyone got to our house, those two were still kneeling on the ground."

To be honest, hearing that still gave him a flicker of retroactive fear. If those two morons hadn’t been mere paper tigers whose tough reputations were all for show, things could have gone differently. In the end, they came to see him for treatment like obedient patients. He prescribed them some medicine to stabilize their conditions and referred them to a larger hospital. Honestly, given their conditions, they would have been fine if they had just gone to a proper hospital sooner. He had no idea what they were thinking, coming to his little clinic and causing such a farce. Seeing Ren Yu laughing so carefreely, he really wanted to scold her. She’d already forgotten the pain of the wound once it had healed, but he was the one who had suffered, searching all over the village for her.

"I’ve never heard of anything like that. It’s like something out of a novel," Cai Qiong said with a laugh. "Wang Jian, what would you have done if they had followed through on their threat and attacked you? If your hands were injured, you wouldn’t be able to use your silver needles anymore."

"Heh, if they had actually dared, I would have been delighted," Wang Jian said with a smile, his hands itching for a fight. "My silver needles aren’t just for saving people. When a doctor decides to kill, it’s always bloodless."

As soon as the words left his mouth, a silver needle appeared in his hand as if from nowhere. With a flick of his wrist, he sent it flying toward the nearby wall.

Cai Qiong and Ren Yu stared in stunned silence. The incredibly thin silver needle was embedded deep in the wall.

If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, they would never have believed it.

Cai Qiong gasped in shock. "Are you practicing acupuncture or kung fu?"

It wasn’t that they were unworldly; the scene was simply beyond belief. Wang Jian’s movement hadn’t seemed forceful at all. And it was a silver needle—light and flexible, completely different from throwing a knife.

For a moment, the two women exchanged glances, beginning to suspect that what Wang Jian had said might actually be true.

Wang Jian stood up, walked to the wall, and pulled the needle out. What Cai Qiong and Ren Yu didn’t see was the mosquito pinned to its tip. He hadn’t thrown the needle just to show off; he had simply spotted a mosquito and decided to deal with the pest.

After sterilizing the needle and putting it away, Wang Jian finally led the two women out to call it a day.

Just as they stepped out of the clinic, they ran into Li Dayu, who was also heading home. When Li Dayu saw the three of them, his gaze lingered on Cai Qiong for a few extra seconds—not because of her figure, but because of who she was.

Li Dayu greeted them suddenly, forcing Wang Jian and the others to stop while they made introductions.

After some pleasantries, Li Dayu asked casually, "Miss Cai, are you heading back now? How about I give you a ride?"

"No need, no need, you’re too kind." Wang Jian knew Li Dayu was trying to curry favor, a behavior he despised, so he cut him off directly. "Cai Qiong isn’t going back tonight, so we won’t trouble Uncle Li."

"She’s staying at your place?" Li Dayu was taken aback, his uncertain gaze shifting to Cai Qiong.

Cai Qiong nodded. "Yes, I have some things to attend to, so I won’t delay the village chief."

With that, Cai Qiong said a quick farewell and pulled Wang Jian and Ren Yu away, leaving a somewhat dazed Li Dayu standing in place.

Only after the trio had walked a good distance did Li Dayu sigh. "My goodness, that kid, Wang Jian, has really hitched his wagon to a star."

His tone and expression were filled with envy. He had struggled and schemed his entire life, but the irony was that it was all worth less than someone else’s good looks.
