Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 27 Duocun Free Clinic 2
The queue of people began to move. One by one, people emerged, and Li Dayu heaved a sigh of relief. No chaos had ensued, which meant he, as the village chief, didn’t need to worry too much. Moreover, the people who came out looked perfectly normal and were all praising "Doctor Wang" inside. This made Li Dayu feel even more reassured.
However, just as his heart had settled, it went on a roller coaster ride again. A high-end commercial vehicle that had no business being in the village pulled up on the road just outside. The entrance was occupied by the clinic’s tent, so the vehicle couldn’t drive in and had to stop there. The luxury vehicle immediately caught Li Dayu’s attention, but the people who got out truly stunned him.
Li Dayu cursed under his breath. Wang Jian is really playing a royal flush. He had thought no other doctors were coming to help, but unexpectedly, two famous old masters of Chinese medicine had shown up—men he had only ever seen on television. What was even more outrageous was that the two doctors were helping Cai Xing out of the vehicle, with Cai Wenji following closely behind.
What a spectacle... Li Dayu was at a loss for words. The phrase "holy hell" simply popped into his mind.
Then, Li Dayu was seen hurrying up to greet Cai Xing’s group. "Rare guests, truly rare guests! Welcome, Mr. Cai, to our Paigou Village. I’m the village chief, Li Dayu. You can come to me for anything. This is...?"
Li Dayu couldn’t fathom why Cai Xing was here. Cai Xing himself paused, not recognizing this Li Dayu at all. But since the man had introduced himself, he couldn’t just stand there silently. "Village Chief Li, please, no formalities," he said directly. "We just came to see Doctor Wang’s free clinic. Don’t mind us; we’ll go in ourselves."
Li Dayu wouldn’t hear of it. "This way, this way!" he insisted, quickly leading them toward the tent. "Xiao Jian is seeing patients inside. You can all go straight in. It’ll be good to have you there to oversee things and prevent any mistakes."
That statement wasn’t wrong, either. When compared to Niu Deyuan, Wang Jian’s reputation was nothing, so having some support wouldn’t hurt.
And just like that, they went inside.
When the grandpas and grannies in line saw this, some of them immediately grew displeased. Good heavens. We came at the crack of dawn to line up, and these people get to just waltz straight in? What is this?
Grandpa Wang, who had a short temper, was just about to speak up and stop them when his grandson beside him held him back.
"Grandpa, don’t! That’s the owner of the Cai Group. He isn’t here to see the doctor." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Grandpa Wang was taken aback, as he didn’t recognize the man. "What? Cai Group? What’s that?"
His grandson replied with a wry smile, "They’re the ones who organized this free clinic."
"Oh!" Grandpa Wang’s eyes lit up in understanding. The surrounding crowd of seniors had been listening with pricked ears and reacted the same way. For a moment, many of them started thanking Cai Xing and his companions as they walked past. This, in turn, caught Cai Xing’s group off guard.
Only Grandpa Wang was still muttering, "But I heard Doctor Wang organized it..."
His grandson explained again, "Grandpa, look at the signs on all the equipment. They all say ’Cai Group.’ Doctor Wang from the clinic is the physician for the free event, that’s right, but all the expenses were covered by the Cai Group. It’s written on the pamphlets they just handed out."
At his words, the people who had been using the pamphlets as fans started to look down and read them. They then discovered that the pamphlets not only introduced the Cai Group and Doctor Wang but also contained useful medical tips for daily life. Many small things suddenly made sense to them, and they felt they had genuinely learned something new. A lively buzz stirred through the crowd.
Wang Jian had just seen a patient out. As the patient opened the door, he heard the commotion outside. He was still processing it when Cai Xing led the group in. Wang Jian was stunned but quickly got up to greet them.
He had originally intended to pay for the free clinic himself. After all, the salary the Cai Group gave him was more than enough to cover the costs. However, Cai Wenji had stepped in and taken care of all the expenses, a development Wang Jian was delighted to hear about.
Now, seeing both Cai Xing and Cai Wenji here, along with two other men who looked familiar but whose names he couldn’t place, Wang Jian still hurried to his feet. "Chairman Cai, what... what brings you here in person?" This noisy, crowded place wasn’t suitable for someone with a heart condition. If something happened and he got agitated, it could be fatal.
"Ah, don’t you worry about me," Cai Xing said with a smile. After greeting Wang Jian, he immediately gestured toward Niu Deyuan and Deng Xianhua. "Let me introduce you to these two gentlemen."
The moment Wang Jian heard their names, he immediately showed his respect. No wonder they looked familiar. He’d heard about them from a fellow student from his hometown back in university. The circle of Chinese medicine practitioners was actually quite small. Even if a practitioner hadn’t met the renowned experts in person, they would have certainly heard of their reputations and capabilities.
Mr. Niu Deyuan, on the surface, looked unremarkable. He had a kind and benevolent face, giving off the warmth of a neighborhood grandpa. Before he resigned from the top-tier hospital, Doctor Niu was a legendary figure, famed for having zero missed diagnoses and zero misdiagnoses. While such tales might be exaggerated, for them to circulate within the professional circle meant he was the real deal. That kind of reputation wasn’t something you could bluff your way into—not among peers, anyway.
While studying under his master, Wang Jian had heard about certain physicians who were not only highly skilled but also adept at communicating with patients. They could build a natural rapport, which encouraged patients to describe their symptoms more clearly, ensuring no detail was overlooked in the diagnosis. Moreover, this kind of approachable charisma wasn’t something that could be learned; it stemmed entirely from personal cultivation and emotional intelligence.
As for the other man, Mr. Deng Xianhua, Wang Jian had heard of him as well. He was renowned for his secret acupuncture techniques and was another famous expert in their circle. His ability to save a life with three needles was no exaggeration. In fact, he was the only Chinese medicine expert to have truly made a name for himself in an emergency department. Unfortunately, he later resigned and joined the Cai Group.
Wang Jian truly hadn’t expected to meet these two titans here. He immediately clasped his hands in a fist-and-palm salute and respectfully addressed them both as "Teacher."
Such a gesture was uncommon among students nowadays. This traditional etiquette was really only remembered by the older generation. Because of this, their first impression of Wang Jian was excellent. Niu Deyuan and Deng Xianhua exchanged a glance, both seeing the appreciation in the other’s eyes. They had expected to find an impatient young man. Instead, not only was he completely composed, but he had also greeted them, his elders, with a traditional salute.
Niu Deyuan smiled and spoke first. "Xiao Wang, no need to be so formal. Lao Deng and I just came to have a look. With us here, you can focus on your patients without any reservations."
After speaking, Niu Deyuan and Deng Xianhua wasted no time. They found a place to sit off to the side, taking care not to occupy the consultation space or make any unnecessary conversation. Cai Xing and Cai Wenji did the same.
This left Li Dayu as the most awkward person in the room. The scene unfolding before him sent his mind into a whirlwind. After shooting Wang Jian a confused look, he excused himself, letting the next patient in on his way out.
The new patient who entered was none other than Grandpa Wang, the man who had been about to chew them out for cutting the line.
Grandpa Wang was from the neighboring Red Star Village. Red Star Bridge was in his village and served as a major transportation artery in the nearby mountains. There was nothing visibly wrong with Grandpa Wang. He had been dragged here by his grandson, whose main goal was to take advantage of the free clinic for a checkup. The villagers rarely had the opportunity for a physical examination. When Grandpa Wang’s grandson, who was home for summer vacation, heard about the free clinic, he didn’t hesitate to bring his grandfather over.
After entering, Grandpa Wang casually sat down where Wang Jian directed him.
"Doctor Wang," he began, "we share the same surname, you know! I don’t really have any problems. It’s my grandson, Wang Li, who insisted on dragging me here. Just give me a quick look-over."
Wang Jian was taken aback. There’s no such thing as a ’quick look-over’ in a medical consultation. He shot a questioning glance at the young man standing beside the grandpa.
Wang Li explained helplessly, "My grandpa often complains of chest tightness, and lately, he hasn’t been sleeping well at night. Could you please take a look, Doctor?"
His words, however, seemed to displease Grandpa Wang, who clarified, "It only happens occasionally, not often!"
Wang Jian nodded, raising a hand to begin the pulse diagnosis. At the same time, he observed Grandpa Wang’s facial features and complexion. The old man hadn’t seemed unusual when he walked in, but upon sitting down, he had subconsciously touched his chest, making a soothing gesture. This action, combined with what Wang Li had said, painted a consistent picture.
Wang Jian grew cautious. Anytime symptoms involved chest tightness, it was unlikely to be a simple issue.
Nearby, Niu Deyuan and Deng Xianhua also began to observe carefully.
If nothing else, Wang Jian’s diagnostic manner was impeccable. He was remarkably seasoned, giving off the impression of an old Chinese medicine practitioner with years of clinical experience. But that was impossible. They had heard he only graduated a year ago and couldn’t possibly have that kind of background.
