Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 260 - 254 Treat Lu You’s Illness
"Retired?"
Wang Jian was shocked, but then he added with even more surprise, "Hasn’t Master already been retired for a long time?"
Xu Changqing’s face darkened. Ignoring Xu Qian, who was snickering nearby, he raised his hand as if to strike, only stopping when he saw Wang Jian flinch away. "Once things here are settled, I’ll take you to meet some people. Only after I’ve handed all my work over to you can I consider myself truly retired. They’re all old buddies of mine, so don’t you dare embarrass me..."
Wang Jian hurriedly offered a placating smile. "I wouldn’t dare," he said. "Who are they?"
Xu Changqing shot him a sidelong glance but didn’t answer, instead changing the subject. "I hear you’ve been filming some kind of documentary. Are you planning on getting famous?"
Wang Jian forced a smile. "Not at all. I never actually thought about fame or anything like that. This documentary is purely a coincidence. You could say I just caught the latest trend from the higher-ups."
"The higher-ups?" Xu Changqing understood. Recalling the matter in Capital City, he nodded and said, "Well, being on TV isn’t a bad thing. You’re just too low-key and you hate trouble. Those aren’t good traits."
Wang Jian was speechless, as he had developed this habit entirely by following Xu Changqing’s example. When it came to being low-key, no one could surpass his master, Xu Changqing, a man capable of passing himself off as a simple old man taking his bird for a walk.
When I first met him, I almost mistook him for the old beggar who swindles children in the movie *Kung Fu Hustle*...
Xu Changqing didn’t linger. After seeing that Wang Jian had improved, he took his people to get some rest, and the soldiers enforcing the lockdown on the floor all departed. The Cai family’s hospital finally returned to normal. Cai Qiong rushed over as soon as she heard the news, her clothes still rumpled and her hair a mess.
Judging by her appearance, she had clearly fallen asleep at her desk instead of going home. She ran all the way to the room, only letting out a sigh of relief when she saw Wang Jian sitting up normally in his bed. It was only then that she noticed her own disheveled state and began to frantically tidy herself up.
Her flustered appearance made both Xu Qian and Wang Jian laugh. Wang Jian naturally knew of Cai Qiong’s feelings for him, and a wave of warmth spread through him.
"Why didn’t you go home to sleep?" Wang Jian asked. "Is it comfortable sleeping at the hospital?"
Cai Qiong’s face flushed slightly. Seeing the teasing look in Wang Jian’s eyes, she knew he was doing it on purpose.
"None of your business," Cai Qiong glared at him before saying, "Can’t I be busy?"
"Fine, fine," Wang Jian shrugged. "You should be done now, right? You can go home and get some proper rest. Don’t worry, there won’t be any more incidents."
Cai Qiong yawned. Before answering, she looked Wang Jian over a few more times. After confirming his complexion was even better than her own, despite her all-nighter, she pretended everything was normal and said, "Ah, yes. In that case, I’ll go home and get some sleep."
She then specifically turned to Xu Qian and said, "Sister Qian, if anything happens, be sure to call me."
Without giving Wang Jian another glance, Cai Qiong walked away, yawning as she went. She was clearly exhausted.
Once Cai Qiong had left, Xu Qian spoke up. "Actually, that girl only just got back to her office a little while ago. She must have just fallen asleep when she heard you were awake, which is why she rushed over without having time to tidy up."
"You’d better not say that to her face," Wang Jian laughed. "It’s not nice to expose someone’s excuse for working overtime." After he spoke, they looked at each other and smiled.
It was the wee hours of the morning, but Wang Jian felt no drowsiness at all. He sat up in bed and said to Xu Qian, "Sister-in-law, you should get some sleep. I just woke up and I’m not tired in the slightest. I think I’ll go check on things next door."
Xu Qian’s eyes were bloodshot, a clear sign she hadn’t slept. Wang Jian saw that she hadn’t closed her eyes once.
"What are you going next door for now?" Xu Qian asked curiously. She had overheard the conversation between Wang Jian and Xu Changqing. Although she didn’t fully understand it, she knew that Wang Jian was aware Lu You and the others were in the next room.
"Since I can’t sleep anyway, I’ll go take a look and put my mind at ease," Wang Jian explained. "Besides, I still have to thank them."
Hearing this, Xu Qian knew Wang Jian was referring to his blessing in disguise, so she didn’t try to stop him.
Once he saw Xu Qian was resting, Wang Jian left the hospital room.
Upon entering the neighboring room, Heizi and Hu Ziyuan immediately came over to greet him.
"Doctor Wang, are you all right?"
The moment Hu Ziyuan saw Wang Jian, he was overjoyed. His joy was mixed with relief at seeing Wang Jian awake and guilt for nearly causing his brush with death.
"Yes, I’m perfectly fine," Wang Jian said concisely. He then gestured toward Lu You on the bed. "I’ve come to check on Mr. Lu’s condition and see if I can continue his treatment."
Hearing this, Hu Ziyuan and Heizi exchanged a look, both filled with admiration for Wang Jian.
The man just had a brush with death because of Lu You, yet here he is, ready to help him again. Doctors like him are truly rare these days.
Hu Ziyuan hesitated before asking, "Doctor Wang, are you sure you want to try?"
"I am." Wang Jian knew what Hu Ziyuan was worried about. He didn’t explain, simply saying, "Don’t worry. I’ll be careful this time. There won’t be any mishaps."
Hu Ziyuan recalled the oppressive atmosphere when the military was here. After a long moment, he said, "Father’s condition has improved quite a bit."
Wang Jian knew this meant Hu Ziyuan had agreed. He followed him to Lu You’s side and nodded at Heizi on the other side of the bed in greeting. He glanced at Lu You on the bed. It was just as Hu Ziyuan had said; his complexion was much better.
It seems that absorbing that dark energy during my spiritual journey has already started to have an effect.
Without further comment, Wang Jian began to take Lu You’s pulse, just as he had before. He didn’t ask Hu Ziyuan and Heizi to leave, letting them watch from the side. He feared that if he sent them out again this time, they wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure.
As before, Wang Jian used his qi to observe Lu You’s body. Unburdened by the black energy, Lu You’s condition was improving. While it wasn’t a full recovery, it strongly suggested that his illness was likely caused by that dark energy. However, that wasn’t what Wang Jian needed to be thinking about right now.
The method I’d considered was to use the Qi Needle to directly target and eliminate the cancerous parts, while simultaneously using my qi to nourish the damaged areas. Destroying the sickness while healing the body—that’s the only safe approach. Avoiding chemotherapy would be an absolute godsend for cancer patients.
But as Wang Jian began to work, he realized how naive he had been.
Although his qi sense made the body’s structure perfectly clear, as if it were imprinted on his mind, the areas affected by the cancer were incredibly small. Treating them required intense concentration and was extremely taxing. Just attempting to treat less than one percent of the area nearly left Wang Jian in a state of collapse. This was partly due to his recent spiritual journey, but the current rate of consumption was something even he couldn’t sustain.
Even with the restorative cycle of Yin and Yang, his recovery was too slow. At this rate of treatment, he couldn’t possibly outpace the cancer’s destructive advance.
Wang Jian had no choice but to withdraw from the treatment.
Freed from the massive consumption, the Yin and Yang qi within him began to recover, replenishing his body’s depleted state.
"Doctor Wang, how is my father?"
