Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 259: Master 253 wants to retire
With the harmony of Yin and Yang, the two energies generated and restrained each other, maintaining a balance. Even after absorbing the energy from Lu You’s body, Wang Jian hadn’t encountered any issues. As the black energy grew, a portion of it would transform into Qi to maintain the equilibrium.
This completely resolved Wang Jian’s lingering worries...
Just as he was immersed in this new experience, pondering how to use it, a powerful force yanked him back. By the time he came to his senses, he had already opened his eyes on the bed.
"What happened...?"
Xu Qian, who was at his bedside, was the first to react. A joyful expression bloomed on her face as she leaned in closer. She had been holding Wang Jian’s hand while watching over him, so their eyes met the moment he woke up. "You’re awake! Are you okay? Do you feel any discomfort?"
Xu Qian barraged him with concerned questions, giving him no time to answer. She fired off a torrent of questions about his well-being, all while checking his condition.
Seeing that he couldn’t get a word in edgewise, Wang Jian stopped trying to reply and simply watched her quietly. He watched her until she grew flustered, realizing she was getting carried away. A blush crept up her face, and she finally stopped.
"I’m fine." Wang Jian patted Xu Qian’s small hand and explained, "I’m not just fine. On the contrary, I feel exceptionally good."
Hearing this, Xu Qian recalled what Xu Changqing had said earlier, but she still had to ask, "Really?"
"Yes, really." Wang Jian smiled. "This turned out to be a blessing in disguise."
Seeing Wang Jian’s healthy complexion, Xu Qian finally breathed a sigh of relief. The heavy stone that had been weighing on her heart was finally lifted.
"You lie down and rest for a bit. I’ll go get your master. He’s been waiting right outside. He’ll be so happy to know you’re awake."
With that, Xu Qian turned and left the hospital room to call Xu Changqing inside.
Xu Changqing was not at all surprised to see Wang Jian awake. Instead, he asked pointedly, "Did you just... go out?"
Wang Jian paused, remembering the look Xu Changqing had given him earlier. He smiled. "Yes."
Hearing the affirmative answer, Xu Changqing’s face lit up with excitement and relief, but that soon gave way to a dazed look. "You truly didn’t disappoint me. You actually did it."
Their conversation was completely baffling to Xu Qian; she couldn’t understand what they meant at all.
Wang Jian, however, understood the source of his master’s emotions. He had unintentionally fulfilled Xu Changqing’s lifelong dream. It was no wonder his master now seemed so at a loss.
Xu Changqing’s mood recovered quickly, leaving only joy in its wake. He laughed, "Good, very good! As your master, I’m overjoyed at your achievement. Quick, tell me, what was it like...?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Xu Changqing’s eyes were filled with yearning, as if he wished he could experience what Wang Jian had just gone through himself.
While sitting outside earlier, he had sensed someone watching him, but no matter how he looked, he couldn’t see anyone. This had led him to a certain hypothesis. Seeing Wang Jian awake now, exuding an aura of incredible harmony and naturalness, reminded Xu Changqing of something. It was like standing atop the mountain at the Daoist Temple, gazing at the distant sea of clouds as a gentle breeze brushed against his face—that very feeling in his heart.
This state of natural harmony with the Dao, coupled with the earlier sensation of being watched, immediately brought the term "Yangshen" to Xu Changqing’s mind.
Wang Jian could appreciate his master’s feelings, so he began to recount his experience in meticulous detail. "The energy from Lu You’s body was about to erode all of my Qi when a surge of incredibly pure Life Energy suddenly welled up inside me, replenishing my Qi reserves. I discovered that this newly generated Qi was of a very high quality, which is what gave me the ability to contend with the black energy."
As Wang Jian spoke, his face still held a trace of lingering fear. "If not for that foundation, I might have died. I only had a chance after the two energies came to a stalemate. That was right when you arrived, Master, which eliminated my worries. So then, I tried to merge the two energies.
"If I didn’t have the Taoist Yin Yang Theory as my foundation, I truly never would have dared to try it. Thinking back on it now, it was a bit impulsive..."
Wang Jian glossed over the most dangerous parts. During the fusion, the conflict between the two energies had nearly torn his body apart.
Xu Changqing nodded, fully aware of the risks involved. But now that Wang Jian was safe and sound, everything was alright, and he was filled with relief.
Wang Jian continued, "Later, they reached a state of equilibrium. It was a balance of Yin and Yang, where they mutually generated and overcame each other, devouring yet also transforming one another. This brought me into a wondrous state. By the time I realized it, I had transcended my physical body and begun to wander about in a state of nothingness. I walked out of the hospital room and saw you humming a little tune, Master. Then, I went to the room next door and absorbed all the black energy from Lu You’s body. That’s what finally pulled me back into my own body, waking me up from that transcendent state."
After pondering for a moment, Xu Changqing said, "That must have been due to the exhaustion of your spiritual energy. Try again. Can you enter that state now?"
Wang Jian nodded and tried to find the same feeling as before, but he only felt a sense of emptiness. He couldn’t enter that state at all.
"So it’s true," Xu Changqing remarked with a slight nod after listening to Wang Jian’s account. "The ancient texts mention clues about the Yangshen that are similar to what you’ve described."
"I know," Wang Jian said. "’When gathered, it takes form; when dispersed, it becomes Qi...’ It means to separate from the physical body and exist eternally, attaining a body beyond the self, outside of life and death."
Wang Jian finished and then shook his head. "But my current state can only be considered a ’soul leaving the body,’ which is different from a Yangshen’s transcendence over life and death. I even have a feeling that if I tried to force myself to remain in that transcendent state, I would undoubtedly die."
"Indeed," Xu Changqing said, his voice tinged with regret. "But the fact that you’ve had this experience proves the legends of the Yangshen are real. In your future Cultivation, you can simply work toward that direction. Don’t feel any pressure."
Although Xu Changqing felt it was a pity, he wasn’t the sort of pedant who would force the unfulfilled dreams of his generation onto the next. In this day and age, he understood the difficulties of Cultivation better than anyone. Qi Cultivation was already a clever shortcut for self-improvement that he had pieced together from countless texts. To actually achieve the realm of the Yangshen was, without a doubt, a fool’s dream. He wasn’t one to reach for the unattainable, so he comforted Wang Jian, telling him not to dwell on it.
Even so, Xu Changqing was still immensely pleased. He had long said that Wang Jian’s accomplishments would surpass his own, perhaps even reaching the realm he had only dreamed of. He just hadn’t expected this day to come so quickly. The last time he’d had that thought was only two months ago.
"Master, I understand," Wang Jian said with a smile. "My perception of everything is completely different now. When I use this to treat illnesses, it will be like giving a tiger wings. For those illnesses that were once incurable, I might be able to find new solutions."
"That’s right," Xu Changqing agreed. "The coexistence of Yin and Yang is like having a thorough grasp of life and death itself. It will be a hundred times easier for you to save people than before. This is a wonderful thing."
When he saw that his disciple cared little for the Yangshen, and that his first instinct was instead to heal the sick and save lives, he was filled with extreme gratification. He remembered that his initial reason for choosing the path of Qi Cultivation was also to save people.
Perhaps it’s time for this old master to retire.
