Chapter 227: Do you still remember?

At this moment, Han Youzhen was also pondering the same question. How did I run into him again?

After escorting Chairman Kang to the hotel, Wang Jian had gone home, while Chairman Kang stayed behind to keep his roommates company. Han Youzhen remained alone in her tidied room, waiting for the rest of the day’s plans. She had heard they would first visit a scenic area in the mountains. There was no need to climb anything, but it boasted a beautiful Heavenly Lake and equally gorgeous mountain scenery.

However, Han Youzhen was in no mood for landscapes. Her mind was completely filled with thoughts of Wang Jian, who had just left. It wasn’t that she had any particular feelings for him; it was just that their second encounter felt miraculous. More importantly, seeing Wang Jian again uncontrollably brought her back to their experience on the train. Ever since that sensual midnight journey, every mention of the word "train" conjured that scene in her mind. Now, seeing Wang Jian in person, the mere sight of him made her blush.

But... according to Chairman Kang, if Wang Jian didn’t have any patients in the afternoon, he would be joining them. Only then did Han Youzhen learn that Wang Jian was actually a doctor. In Han Country, being a doctor was a respectable profession, and they were highly sought-after as marriage prospects. Yet Han Youzhen still didn’t know what kind of doctor he was, and she had been too embarrassed to ask for details at the time.

After the slightly awkward incident with Wang Lei and the others, Han Youzhen had thought the trip would become uncomfortable, but now it seemed to have taken a new, interesting turn.

Around noon, Chairman Kang took Han Youzhen and the others to the restaurant arranged by Cai Qiong, and Wang Jian leisurely made his way over. Since there were no patients at the clinic today, not only had he come out, but Angel and her documentary crew had also taken the opportunity to have a day off. Whether they were off capturing B-roll or doing something else, the day’s filming had nothing to do with Wang Jian.

Upon seeing Wang Jian arrive, Wang Lei couldn’t help but exclaim, "Senior, the restaurant you arranged is way too upscale." He and Wang Jian shared the same surname, and Chairman Kang had specifically credited Wang Jian with organizing the trip, so Wang Lei and the others were very grateful. "We were just planning on keeping things simple for our trip," Wang Lei continued. "If it weren’t for your arrangements, Senior, we definitely wouldn’t have known about this place. All the research we did just pointed us to small, local diners."

Yu Yen, savoring the gourmet food, added his own praise. "This is my first time at a private kitchen. You don’t even have to order; the dishes are served individually to each person. It’s really impressive, and the food is delicious."

Although Shanghai City wasn’t a major metropolis, it was renowned in Shan Province as a haven for wild game. Making a living off the mountains was something the Shanhai people had mastered. Consequently, there were quite a few upscale hospitality venues offering everything from fine dining to entertainment, far more impressive than any rural homestay.

This restaurant, called "Heaven on Earth," looked like a tranquil, high-end teahouse from the outside; you would never guess it was a restaurant. It was essentially a serene garden built within the city, with various courtyards and corridors designed in an ancient architectural style, giving it a unique presence in Shanghai City.

It was also Wang Jian’s first time here. He made a mental note to thank Cai Qiong for the favor. Hearing the gratitude from Wang Lei and the others, he sampled a dish from the private kitchen and nodded. "It is delicious. I’m glad everyone is satisfied. Consider this Chairman Kang’s and my way of showing our hospitality."

He had learned a little from Cai Qiong and took the opportunity to explain. "This is actually my first time here, too, but a friend of mine is a regular. The owner, I hear, came back from the Capital City. His culinary skills have been passed down since the era of the Imperial Chef. That’s why the private cuisine here has both local and regional specialties. The thing is, the owner is a man of principle and refuses to be anyone’s personal chef anymore. He calls all the shots now, so ordering specific dishes is pretty much impossible."

"Wang Jian oppa," Han Youzhen said, her face a mask of surprise at hearing about such a chef, "will you be joining me later? I mean, to go mountain climbing?"

After studying the language for so many years, Han Youzhen’s accent was barely noticeable. Moreover, because people from Han Country have some ancestral lineage from this nation, her appearance didn’t give her away as a foreigner. If not for her sometimes unusual sentence structure, people might have assumed she was a native.

Hearing her question, Wang Jian nodded. "Yes, I don’t have any patients today. I haven’t had a proper chance to explore my hometown since I got back, so I’ll go with everyone. I won’t be able to join you all tomorrow, though!"

"Of course," Wang Jian added with an accommodating expression, "if you guys feel my presence would ruin the atmosphere, I won’t go."

When Han Youzhen heard this, she immediately waved her hands in panic. "No, no! Not at all, Oppa!" she protested, so flustered that the denial had come out in her native tongue. She quickly clarified, "I’m really looking forward to you joining us. I didn’t mean that I don’t want you to come at all."

The young woman wasn’t very old and was studying abroad all by herself. She was genuinely afraid of offending someone, hence her frantic explanation.

Seeing her so nervous, Wang Lei stepped in. "Senior, you’ve misunderstood. How could we not welcome you? With a local like you around, we can avoid a lot of tourist traps. We’re thrilled to have you, so how could we possibly think you’d ruin the atmosphere?"

"Right?" Wang Lei prompted, patting Yu Yen on the back and giving him a meaningful look.

Yu Yen caught the hint and chimed in, "Exactly, exactly. If we had to rely on this guy, Chairman Kang, there’s no telling what mountain hollow we’d end up in."

Yu Yen even took a moment to poke fun at Chairman Kang’s unreliability. Chairman Kang wanted to retort but then realized that since returning with Wang Jian, he had never once set foot outside the clinic. If he were in charge of directions, he might actually get them sold off without even realizing it. And so, he held his tongue.

However, when he heard Han Youzhen’s words, his expression grew strange again, especially when Wang Lei jumped in to help her explain. It gave him a sense of helplessness. He knew that Han Youzhen had said "me," not "us."

Chairman Kang was now certain: Han Youzhen felt differently about his senior. They had definitely met before. But her behavior seemed less like affection and more like fear that Wang Jian might do something to her. He couldn’t make sense of it. He had no idea what his senior could have done during their first encounter to elicit such a reaction from a woman.

It wasn’t just Chairman Kang; Wang Jian himself sensed something was off.

As the group ate and chatted, they gradually grew more familiar. This foreign woman felt familiar to him, and she was always the one to initiate conversation. Wang Jian wracked his brain, but he was certain he didn’t know any women from Han Country. In his years as a doctor, he had met countless people; he couldn’t possibly remember everyone he had exchanged only a word or two with. Since she hadn’t said anything, he was too embarrassed to ask directly, figuring he would just have to wait for the right moment.

But with this thought lingering in his mind, Wang Jian found himself subconsciously giving the woman a few extra glances during the meal.

He didn’t expect that those few glances would lead to a small problem. When he stepped away to use the restroom, the woman followed him and cornered him right at the entrance.

"Miss Youzhen, what’s this about?"

Coming out of the men’s restroom to suddenly find a woman blocking the way was a distinctly awkward picture. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Oppa, don’t you remember me?"

What Han Youzhen actually meant to ask was, "Do you have any impression of me?" She had been observing Wang Jian during the meal and noticed he kept looking at her. This created a misconception in her mind: even though they had only shared a single train car, and even though he had been doing... *that*... with his female companion, this man named Wang Jian must still have some impression of her.

If Wang Jian knew what she was thinking, he would have been speechless. He never would have given her a second thought if she hadn’t kept looking at him. As for whether he remembered her, a series of question marks popped into his head.

I don’t seem to have any fleeting romantic encounters... Could I have sleepwalked and lost my memory?
