Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 225 - 219 Chairman Kang’s Friends
Seeing Xu Qian go to cook, Wang Jian naturally wouldn’t be foolish enough to follow her into the kitchen. It was at that moment that Wang Jian suddenly felt that bringing Chairman Kang back had been a mistake. Wasn’t he intruding on their private world?
So, when Chairman Kang emerged from the bathroom, still savoring his moment of relief, he was completely baffled by Wang Jian’s disapproving glare. Just moments earlier, while still inside, a sudden thought had struck him after he’d relieved himself. When he had first entered the living room, he thought he had noticed something unusual. Recalling the scene, his peripheral vision seemed to have caught an extraordinary sight: his senior brother was seemingly embracing his sister-in-law.
However, as soon as this image came to mind, Chairman Kang shook his head and dismissed the thought. He had been moving so quickly that he hadn’t gotten a clear look. Besides, Xu Qian was his senior brother Wang Jian’s sister-in-law; how could they possibly be embracing? They must have been sitting close together, and because he was moving so fast, his motion perception couldn’t keep up, causing him to see a double image. Recalling some basic science he’d learned, Chairman Kang found this to be a perfectly suitable explanation.
But when he came out, he was greeted by Wang Jian’s look of disdain.
Did I forget to close the door? Did the smell get out?
At this thought, Chairman Kang immediately put on an apologetic expression. As he approached Wang Jian, he made a point of saying, "Sorry, senior brother. I caught a chill from the air conditioning today, and my stomach’s a bit upset."
Seeing that Wang Jian had no intention of pursuing the matter, Chairman Kang found a corner on the sofa far from him, sat down, and asked, "Where’s Sister Qian? I thought I saw her in the living room just now."
The question startled Wang Jian, who tried to appear calm as he replied, "She finished her show and went to the kitchen to cook."
"Oh, so that’s what it was." Hearing she had just been watching a show, Chairman Kang finally dismissed what he thought he’d seen, convincing himself that he had been mistaken. He let out an inward sigh of relief. Yet, for some reason, as he watched the crappy variety show on TV, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
His senior brother’s gaze just now... why did it feel less like disdain and more like he wanted to silence me? That can’t be right...
The more Chairman Kang pondered, the more he felt there was something to it. Could I have actually stumbled upon some incredible secret? He looked over at Wang Jian, only to find Wang Jian looking right back at him with a smile. Chairman Kang had no choice but to cast aside these unreasonable thoughts, exchange a few awkward laughs with Wang Jian, and continue watching TV while waiting for Xu Qian to finish dinner. For some reason, a mysterious awkwardness began to permeate the Wang family’s living room.
As Chairman Kang’s imagination ran wild, two groups of people were making their way toward Paigou Village and Shanghai City: Uncle Yan Wang’s people, and Chairman Kang’s roommates.
After Chairman Kang had arranged the visit with his roommates, Yu Yen and Wang Lei had started their preparations. They were taking the train that night and would arrive in Shanghai City the next day. Coming with them was Han Youzhen, the foreign goddess Wang Lei was smitten with.
Originally, all three dorm brothers were supposed to travel together, but in the end, only Yu Yen, Wang Lei, and Han Youzhen made the trip. One reason was that the third roommate had a last-minute commitment, and the other was to create an opportunity for Wang Lei. Yu Yen had originally planned to see it through and let Wang Lei and Han Youzhen have some private time together, but Wang Lei refused to let him back out at the last minute, terrified of being alone with her.
Seeing Wang Lei’s cowardice, Yu Yen almost cursed him out. If he didn’t even have the courage to be alone with his goddess, how could he ever have the confidence to win her over? At this rate, forget dating; even being friends would be a long shot. But since Wang Lei was his dorm brother, Yu Yen could only agree to see this favor through to the end and act as his wingman on the way.
The only thing that worried Yu Yen was the fear of an unexpected rival appearing. If a man who was more outstanding than Wang Lei—and an eloquent speaker to boot—suddenly appeared, then with a simple comparison, Wang Lei would be out of the picture as long as Han Youzhen wasn’t blind. Everything and everyone suffers by comparison.
Yu Yen had discussed this with Wang Lei, and now they both just had to pray that no such person would show up on the train. As for when they reached Shanghai City and Paigou Village, they weren’t worried. After all, in a small place, even if Wang Lei was a letdown, he could still feel a sense of superiority. Naturally, they had no idea that Chairman Kang’s senior brother, Wang Jian, was exactly the kind of person they feared.
While Yu Yen was helping Wang Lei plan how to conduct himself on the journey, Wang Jian and the others had already sat down for dinner.
Distracted by Wang Jian, Xu Qian had even burned one of the dishes. Chairman Kang had never seen Xu Qian make a mistake in the kitchen, so he found it strange and shot her a few curious glances. These glances almost made Xu Qian lose her composure. Fortunately, Chairman Kang had enough emotional intelligence not to comment on it.
He also mentioned at dinner that his roommates were planning to visit and that he would be going to the train station to pick them up the next day.
Wang Jian naturally welcomed the idea and even made a special call to Cai Qiong. In a place like this, having a local big shot like Cai Qiong show them around would definitely be more enjoyable than if it were just him and Chairman Kang.
On the phone, after hearing Wang Jian’s request, Cai Qiong replied with embarrassment, "I’m currently on a business trip out of town. I can’t make it back..."
Her exhaustion was evident in her tone. Wang Jian consoled her, "No worries, no worries. You’ve been especially busy lately. Don’t work yourself sick. You need to rest when you can."
"I know." This was the first time Cai Qiong had received such concern from Wang Jian. Delighted, her voice became much cheerier. "Once I’ve sorted out the mess with those unreliable relatives, my part will be done. My brother and the others can handle the rest. When that happens, I’ll definitely come to your place for a good, long rest. Eating Sister Qian’s cooking every day... just thinking about it makes me happy."
In her heart, Cai Qiong silently added that the thought of spending every day with Wang Jian made her even happier.
Hearing this, Wang Jian certainly wouldn’t object. Over the past few months, Cai Qiong had practically taken root in his house, so a few more days wouldn’t make a difference.
Even though Cai Qiong wasn’t in Shanghai City, she still arranged for a car to be sent to Wang Jian. It would make things much more convenient, whether for picking people up the next day or for getting around. Upon hearing that one of the guests was a Korean girl, Cai Qiong even arranged their accommodation. This wasn’t about protocol for foreign guests; she just suspected the Korean girl might be very attractive, and she didn’t want any more women buzzing around Wang Jian.
"Can you drive?" Wang Jian asked Chairman Kang as soon as he hung up. "We’ll have a car tomorrow, but I don’t have a license, so I’ll have to rely on you."
"I can," Chairman Kang nodded immediately. "I used to drive all the time back home and got my license ages ago. It’s no problem."
Considering the number of people, the car Cai Qiong arranged wasn’t inconvenient at all; it was a Mercedes-Benz MPV, a perfect blend of comfort and luxury.
The next morning, Chairman Kang headed to the station to meet the arriving train. He had intended to go alone, but Wang Jian decided to accompany him. As the host, he felt it was his duty to come along, whether out of etiquette or respect for Chairman Kang. Playing the gracious host was the least he could do.
However, when he met them, Chairman Kang noticed that Yu Yen’s and Wang Lei’s expressions were a bit off, though the Korean woman seemed fine. He couldn’t tell if the two had slept poorly or if something had upset them. When Wang Jian wasn’t looking, Chairman Kang secretly asked and found out.
It turned out that Wang Lei had made a complete fool of himself the night before. After hearing the story, Chairman Kang almost burst out laughing, which only made Wang Lei’s expression more helpless.
This whole incident had started last night...
However, while listening to Wang Lei and the others tell their story, Chairman Kang noticed something else. The foreign friend who came with Wang Lei... she seems to know my senior brother, Wang Jian? What a bizarre turn of events.
