Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 16: This woman is going to be the death of me.
"Don’t be shy. I’ve made myself clear. When she’s home alone, just come over. Got it?" Zhang Quan persuaded him earnestly, worried he wouldn’t go. "Resolving this matter sooner is better for all of us," he urged.
"But..." Wang Jian had barely spoken a word when Zhang Quan interrupted him.
"What are you worried about? Oh, I know..." Zhang Quan glanced at his own yard and lowered his voice again. "Zhang Li will talk to Liping. You’re overthinking things."
"Alright, it’s settled. We’re done talking about this." Not giving Wang Jian a chance to say more, Zhang Quan turned on his heel and walked into the yard, leaving him standing alone at the door.
Wang Jian held out a hand, a helpless look on his face. What he actually wanted to say was, But I really don’t want to.
This family... he felt like they were completely railroading him. He just wanted to be a quiet village doctor. Why did everyone have to provoke him like this?
I just don’t get it.
Wang Jian sighed and slowly strolled back home, stopping as he reached his doorstep.
I’m about to see my sister-in-law. What am I supposed to do?
They still hadn’t spoken a single word to each other, which was pure torture. There were only two people in the entire house, and they weren’t speaking. If things stayed like this, it would be an unbearable way to live. The only silver lining was that he could soon move into the clinic. He would have much more freedom living alone and wouldn’t have to worry about situations like this anymore.
After entering the yard, Wang Jian heard a noise inside the house. There was a guest, and it was a woman.
As soon as he pushed open the living room door, he saw two women sitting on the couch, laughing and chatting as they watched a variety show on TV.
"Wow, Mr. Huang is an amazing cook! That looks so delicious."
"It’s true! Teacher He is great, too. Is that Xiao Zhang the young woman from that detective movie?"
"Yeah, I think so. You don’t get skills like Mr. Huang’s unless you’re always cooking. He must do it all the time at home."
"His wife is so lucky. So much better than being with one of those useless men who expect to be waited on hand and foot. You’re the one who has it good, Xu Qian. With your husband away, you can do whatever you want."
"What nonsense are you talking about? I have to do everything myself when I’m home alone. And when I’m scared, there’s no one to keep me company. What’s so good about that?"
Wang Jian arrived just in time to hear this. The guest was a very familiar face: Li Liping, the Zhang family’s daughter-in-law.
Li Liping wore a black slip dress, sitting with her legs angled to one side. Beside her, his sister-in-law, Xu Qian, was in a white sundress. The two women were holding hands, laughing and chatting, clearly on very good terms.
The very person he had just been pressured into sleeping with had appeared in his own home. Needless to say, Wang Jian’s feelings were indescribable.
Xu Qian caught sight of Wang Jian and called out, "Xiao Jian, you’re back?"
"Uh..."
His sister-in-law was actually talking to him! Wang Jian was stunned for a moment, unable to contain his irrepressible joy.
"What are you spacing out for? We have a guest, you know. At least say hello."
Seeing Wang Jian’s silence, Xu Qian knew what he was thinking and decided to use the opportunity to break the awkwardness between them.
Li Liping watched them interact without reading too much into it. She found it quite normal, as this wasn’t the first time she and Wang Jian had met, so she quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Hahaha, no need, no need! Wang Jian and I have already met. Don’t be so formal, you’ll make me feel embarrassed."
"Oh, right, right, right!" Xu Qian snapped to her senses, slapping her forehead in a moment of realization. "Silly me, I completely forgot! When Xiao Jian first came back, he went to your house to treat you guys."
In Xu Qian’s mind, the only reason Zhang Quan would have asked Wang Jian to their house was for a medical visit. What else could it be?
"So, how did it go? Did Xiao Jian find a solution last time?"
"Uh..."
Of course, Xu Qian had no idea. The moment she asked, both Li Liping’s and Wang Jian’s hearts clenched. They exchanged a fleeting glance before quickly looking away.
With an odd expression, Wang Jian replied, "Well, you could say a solution was found."
Xu Qian was elated. She squeezed Li Liping’s hand and said, "That’s wonderful! Xiao Jian’s medical skills are amazing!"
His medical skills were indeed impressive, but this had nothing to do with medicine. When you take the field in person, of course a ’solution’ can be found.
Wang Jian and Li Liping looked at each other, a silent understanding passing between them.
"Yes, you’re right," Li Liping said, quickly changing the subject. She turned to Wang Jian, who was still standing by the door. "Doctor Wang, come sit down. Over here, over here."
As she spoke, Li Liping patted the spot next to her. Since Xu Qian was sitting at the far end of the couch, it was the only space left.
Xu Qian nodded. "It’s still early. If you don’t have anything to do, come watch the show with us. We can all chat."
Since his sister-in-law had spoken, Wang Jian had no reason to refuse. He scurried over and plopped down next to Li Liping.
Now that he had spoken with his sister-in-law, the earlier awkwardness vanished. Wang Jian spoke up immediately, "I have good news. I just finished the paperwork with the village chief. The vacant room at the village committee office is now going to be my clinic."
"That’s wonderful!" Xu Qian’s face lit up, her expression even more delighted than Wang Jian’s. "That was so fast! Since when are things with the village committee so efficient? But that’s not important. You came back to open a clinic, and now you’ve finally accomplished your goal."
While gently caressing one of Li Liping’s hands, Xu Qian said happily, "How about this? Liping, why don’t you stay for dinner? Your family helped a lot with getting the clinic approved. I’ll cook some special dishes, and we can invite Uncle Zhang and the others over, too."
After speaking, she looked past Li Liping toward Wang Jian. "Xiao Jian, what do you think?"
"..." Wang Jian remained silent, inwardly screaming his refusal.
But before he could respond, Li Liping had already answered, "That sounds great! I’ll send them a message right now."
With that, Li Liping pulled her hand free, took out her phone, and sent a few messages. Now, Wang Jian had lost any chance to refuse.
This is so strange. I don’t understand this woman’s intentions at all. What is she playing at?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, he felt his hand, which was resting on the sofa, being grabbed. Li Liping had secretly taken hold of it, right under Xu Qian’s nose.
Wang Jian’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest. In front of his sister-in-law, his conscience screamed as he felt like a total coward. He instinctively tried to pull his hand away but didn’t dare make any sudden moves that might be noticed, leaving him frozen and unable to move.
Li Liping’s expression didn’t change, as if nothing was happening. She continued chatting naturally with Xu Qian, even discussing the variety show with her.
While Wang Jian was still in shock, he felt a cool finger begin to trace circles on his palm. The sensation was like magic, striking straight to his core and making the blood rush to his head.
...
Wang Jian’s eyes widened. He turned to look at Li Liping, only for his gaze to meet that of both women. I’m so dead. His heart leaped into his throat. This was too intense.
"What’s wrong?"
Li Liping looked the picture of innocence, while Xu Qian also seemed perplexed.
"Nothing, nothing. This variety show is pretty good," Wang Jian said, forcing a smile and managing to bluff his way through.
Xu Qian rolled her eyes at him. Of course it’s good, or I wouldn’t be watching it. He’s just stating the obvious. She couldn’t put her finger on what felt so strange. She glanced at the two beside her but didn’t notice anything amiss.
Just then, the timer on the kitchen kettle went off. Xu Qian stood up. "I’ll go check on the tea," she said as she walked away. "Xiao Jian, keep Liping company. Don’t neglect our guest."
Wang Jian was speechless. How am I supposed to keep her company? With my body?
Watching Xu Qian’s retreating figure, Wang Jian desperately wanted to call out for his sister-in-law to save him, but he couldn’t bring himself to say a word.
Seeing Wang Jian’s predicament, the corners of Li Liping’s mouth curved up slightly as her mind began to race. The thrill of this clandestine teasing, a new experience for her, was incredibly alluring.
Li Liping watched Xu Qian leave, her eyes glinting. Seemingly out of nowhere, she produced something in her hand. The feel of it in her palm made even her own cheeks flush slightly.
Just as Wang Jian inwardly sighed with relief, her hand returned. This time, however, something warm was pressed into his.
HISS!
One glance at the dark red lace panties was all it took for him to shoot up from the sofa.
How did she do that?
Wang Jian nearly had a nosebleed. He couldn’t take it anymore. His gaze involuntarily drifted toward the hem of her slip dress, feeling as if the unseen darkness there was a black hole, ready to suck his gaze right in.
GULP.
Then he heard Li Liping’s soft whisper, "Brother Wang, do you like it?"
HISS. This was going to be the death of him.
Wang Jian had never encountered a woman like Li Liping before.
