Chapter 127: Unable to bear 122

"Honestly..."

Cai Qiong’s face flushed red as she cursed coquettishly to herself. Although I already knew their relationship was unusual, seeing it with my own eyes is still so embarrassing. She was utterly flustered. Moreover, Wang Jian was still wet from the well, and she’d gotten a very clear look at his physique. For some reason, watching him carry Xu Qian away without any resistance stirred a peculiar feeling in her heart.

Just as she was lost in thought, the sound of ripping clothes came from the room, startling her. She knew the walls weren’t very soundproof, but... Tearing clothes... that’s just horrifying... Cai Qiong swallowed hard, her towel freezing in her hand. Her mind buzzed with improper images, so much so that she began to sweat again in places she had just dried.

Damn it! What am I even thinking? Cai Qiong pinched her own arm, leaving an instant red mark on her fair skin.

The only reason she was here was that she’d finished her business at home and decided to come over early. Technically, she didn’t need to come at all. Yet somehow, as soon as her tasks were done, she found her mind drifting back to this place. She would recall the thrilling moments she’d shared with Wang Jian and the image of him completely focused on treating his patients. So, without staying home for long, she had driven over in the afternoon before it got dark. It was just a shame she hadn’t run into him.

But she never expected to see him right after her bath, and especially not under such circumstances. Thinking this, she cursed under her breath, "Pah!" But new sounds were already starting to come from the room... How can those two be so unrestrained?

Cai Qiong’s face flushed, and she quickly retreated to her own room. For a moment, she questioned whether she should even be staying at the Wang family’s house. She could have just slept at her own home for the night and come over in the morning. After all, Wang Jian wasn’t going anywhere. Seeing him a night later would have made no difference, and at least she could have avoided this awkward scene.

Cai Qiong sighed. Although she could no longer hear the titillating sounds, it felt as if she were having auditory hallucinations. There’s something different about Wang Jian tonight, she thought. Behaviorally, he seems more... bestial than usual. Of course, Cai Qiong had no idea this was because Wang Jian had taken a human pill. From a scientific perspective, something akin to the gene potions from sci-fi movies probably hadn’t even been invented yet.

While Cai Qiong was feeling uneasy, the pair in the other room weren’t having a much better time.

The full potency of the human pill had finally dispersed throughout Wang Jian’s body. He felt like a furnace, scorching hot all over. The heat in certain parts was unprecedentedly high, and Xu Qian was completely overwhelmed, as if her soul had been knocked right out of her body.

"What’s wrong with you?" Xu Qian asked, her eyes rolling back.

Still, Wang Jian’s unusual state worried her. She was afraid something was wrong with him. Since she knew he practiced martial arts, she feared he might have run into a problem like those described in novels, such as an internal energy deviation. Even knowing such things were fictional, she couldn’t help but worry. She spent every day with him; how could she not know what he was like? This is just too much today. It’s too intense... for a woman, this isn’t exactly enjoyable.

When Wang Jian heard her, the abnormal heat hadn’t yet subsided, but seeing Xu Qian’s exhausted state, he forced himself to hold back. "My master visited today," he replied softly. "He gave me some... supplements."

The incident in the Deserted Village was too terrifying, and his master had forbidden him from telling anyone. Besides, telling Xu Qian would only make her worry more and serve no other purpose, so it was better to say nothing.

Hearing it was a supplement from Wang Jian’s master, who she knew was an expert, Xu Qian understood immediately. But she could feel Wang Jian was still raring to go, his breathing heavy, and it frightened her a little. It was only around ten o’clock, but she was already so exhausted that even lifting a hand felt like too much effort. She didn’t want to move a muscle. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

She considered telling him to relieve himself, but after a moment’s thought, she didn’t dare. All she could do was mutter weakly, "Xiao Jian..."

Wang Jian had been watching her the whole time. Though her voice was quiet, he heard her and immediately responded, "What is it?"

"You’ve been frowning this whole time, and your body is just getting hotter. Is it really that hard to bear?" she asked. "Could holding it in like this be bad for your health?"

"This..." Wang Jian was stunned. He’d never considered these questions. No one had ever used a human pill before, and even his master hadn’t mentioned this feverish side effect. After a moment, all he could say was, "I don’t know."

Xu Qian frowned slightly and bit her lip. Her voice was barely a whisper, like the buzzing of a mosquito. "You should go find Liping."

"What?" Wang Jian was taken aback. He hadn’t misheard her; he just couldn’t believe his ears. When he saw the look in her eyes and realized she wasn’t joking, he couldn’t help but snap, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

"Oh, come on," Xu Qian laughed, her exhaustion lifting slightly. "Didn’t Lao Zhang ask you to give him an heir? What’s so nonsensical about that?"

Wang Jian was speechless. Seeing she truly wasn’t joking left him stunned. He already thought of Xu Qian as his woman, but what kind of girlfriend—or wife—says something like that? The fact that she seemed dead serious only confused him more.

Finally, Wang Jian asked her directly, "What am I to you?"

What is he to me? Xu Qian was taken aback. In the dim light of the room, she could make out his expression—it was hurt and utterly bewildered. What’s wrong with him? Isn’t this what all men want? Why does he have that look on his face? Pondering his question, however, she felt a flicker of understanding.

"Silly boy," Xu Qian said softly. She hadn’t intended to move, but when she realized that he was serious about her and thought she was just toying with him, she couldn’t help but laugh.

Her laugh made Wang Jian laugh in frustration. "What’s so funny?"

Seeing that he was actually getting angry, Xu Qian sobered up. She reached out to touch his face, her palm feeling the abnormal, feverish heat radiating from his skin.

"Don’t overthink this. You don’t have to be so serious about me, and you don’t need to feel responsible for me. Our relationship... it won’t lead anywhere in the end.

"Instead of worrying about that, why don’t we just enjoy ourselves? We can keep on like this. I’ll be here whenever you need me, and when you eventually get a girlfriend, I won’t bother you. Isn’t that a great arrangement? You should be happy about it, not thinking so much.

"Besides, I don’t want to get married again. I don’t want to live my life for a man anymore.

"And on top of all that, I really can’t handle you like this today. If you keep holding it in, this fever could damage your body, which would be a huge problem. So please, go find Liping. Don’t worry, I won’t blame you.

"Go on, or you’re going to break me."

It took a great deal of effort for Xu Qian to say that last sentence.

But Wang Jian’s mind was reeling from her words. Without saying anything more, he got up and walked out of the room. He wasn’t a fool. After she’d said all that, what else was there to do? More words would be pointless.

Xu Qian watched him leave, a hundred different emotions welling up inside her.

But Wang Jian didn’t go looking for Li Liping. Instead, he went to the well and doused himself with several buckets of cold water to cool down. Then, he filled two buckets to the brim and ran out of the yard.

Wang Jian chose to go for a weighted run, hoping the immense physical exertion would solve the problem with his body. What he never expected was that after just a few laps, he would run into Ren Yu.
