Chapter 45: Training with Caroline - 1

Caroline watched him, momentarily at a loss for words.

She had noticed the shift in his energy all day—the way he had been hunched over that strange, ancient-looking book instead of paying attention to the lectures, and now this sudden, intense request to learn about combat.

"Well, I can certainly teach you," Caroline said softly, her voice dipping into a tone of genuine concern.

"But I hope everything is actually okay. You’ve been acting so strangely today. It’s like you’re a different person." Caroline said looking straight into his eyes with a look of worry.

"Of course, there’s nothing wrong," Trevor replied, his voice steady as he held her gaze.

He didn’t want her digging into his secrets, so he quickly doubled down before she could change her mind.

"So, we’re still on for Saturday, right?"

Caroline tilted her head, a playful but eager glint showing in her eyes.

"Actually, we can go today, if you don’t have anything else planned. We’ll just start with the basics, no need to worry, I promise."

She spoke quickly, almost as if she was afraid Trevor might withdraw the request if she didn’t lock it in right then and there.

Trevor nodded, keeping his facial. Expression hard to read, it was oddly calm even though his heart was racing.

He hadn’t expected her to be this enthusiastic, but it worked perfectly for his timeline.

Without another word, they packed their bags and headed straight for her home.

As they walked, Caroline’s mood seemed to skyrocket.

She was brighter and she talked more than he had seen her in weeks, laughing at small things and sharing stories with a wide, brilliant smile that Trevor found hard to ignore, even though tried to keep his mind on his mission.

Soon, they were standing in front of her residence.

Trevor had passed it before, but the sight of the massive three-story estate never failed to impress him.

It was a fortress of luxury.

Caroline dashed to the front door and pushed it open, gesturing for him to follow.

"Come on in! We’re finally here!" she chirped, full of energy.

Trevor laughed quietly at her enthusiasm and stepped inside.

His jaw nearly hit the floor.

The garage alone was packed with more than eleven cars, all of them the latest exotic models.

He couldn’t understand why she ever bothered walking to school when she had a fleet of supercars at her disposal.

"Come inside, don’t just stand there!"

Caroline called out, leading him through an interior that looked like it belonged in a royal palace.

The decorations were breathtaking, but Caroline ran through the halls as if it were just a normal house.

Finally, they reached her room, which was essentially a private wing of the mansion.

It had its own dining area, a jacuzzi room separate from the bathroom, a personal home bar stocked with exotic bottles, and a massive library on the far side where she did her studying.

It was a stark reminder of who her father was: Vincent Roseman, the powerful head of the Hunters Organization.

While Trevor was taking in the sights, Caroline returned holding two training swords.

She set them down by a small table and picked up a telephone nearby.

"Please, I have a guest. I need a serving for two with wine," she said into the receiver before hanging up.

She turned back to Trevor with a warm smile and sat on the edge of her bed. "So, Trevor, this is my home. You’re welcome here anytime."

With that being said she pointed to the blades.

"These are my least used swords. They’re less as sharp as the others, so they’re safer for practice.

But I haven’t asked yet—" what kind of combat specifically do you want to learn?"

"Just combat in general,"

Trevor said, trying to sound casual.

"I haven’t really gotten a strong grip on the fundamentals yet."

"Okay. In that case, I don’t think we’ll be using the swords today,"

Caroline decided. "Not until I’ve verified exactly where you stand. Since I have a combat essence myself, the easiest way to gauge your skill is a one-on-one spar.

No magic, no gear, just raw physical ability."

Trevor’s eyes widened. ’Is she crazy? That’s basically a death sentence,’ he thought.

Fighting a combat specialist without his System cards was a massive risk.

"What’s the matter? Are you too scared to fight me?" she teased, stepping into the center of the room and dropping into a sharp fighting posture.

Trevor hesitated for only a second before standing up. He knew he had to do this the hard way.

If he used his cards now, she would misjudge his actual growth and her teaching wouldn’t be effective. They stood across from each other, sizing one another up like predators. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Without warning, Trevor lunged at her. He threw all his force into a high fist, aiming a heavy blow at her.

But Caroline’s reflexes were terrifying. She blocked the strike effortlessly and, in the same motion, launched a fierce counter-blow that caught Trevor right on the chin, knocking him flat onto the floor.

Trevor scrambled back to his feet, his jaw stinging.

This time, he didn’t hold back. He lunged again, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks, trying to overwhelm her with speed.

Caroline didn’t panic; she kept that blissful smile on her face as she parried his attacks.

Trevor side-stepped a sudden strike from her and leaped forward. He spread his legs wide in mid-air, preparing to deliver a powerful kick.

He had timed this perfectly. Thanks to his training and his natural intuition—even without activating his "Eyes of Hades" card he could spot the slight opening she left.

Caroline had overextended slightly after her last punch, thinking he would block it rather than dodge.

Trevor saw the vulnerability in her stance.

He aimed his kick straight for her neck, a weak point that would end the match instantly.

He was almost certain he had her. A bright smile grazed his features as he was just about to silver his lethal kick
