Versatile System-Chapter 42: Dinner is ready
Trevor got into the car calmly, a weary smile playing on his face.
He knew exactly how strange things were about to get given what he had discovered earlier today.
He stepped inside, adjusted himself in the passenger seat, and pulled the door shut with a firm tug.
He looked straight at Miss Bella.
Her face looked stressed and tired, as if she had just woken up from a very short and unsatisfying sleep.
Trevor didn’t speak at all; he just watched her in silence. Her mind seemed to be elsewhere, her eyes fixed on the school exit as if she were waiting for something specific.
After about ten minutes, she finally saw what she was looking for. A black Rolls Royce pulled out of the school driveway and onto the main road.
Immediately, Miss Bella’s nerves seemed to relax. She turned to Trevor and offered him a calm, tired smile.
"Where is your house located? I’ll drop you off," she said softly.
Trevor had already cought on that must be Mr Austins car the so called vice principal of the school.
And based on the conversation earlier it was not a suprise to Trevor that miss Bella was waiting for him to leave first.
"44 Dewan Road. It’s just past the next T-junction if you keep going straight from here," Trevor replied, gesturing toward the road ahead.
"Alright then. Buckle your seatbelt so we can get moving," Miss Bella said, reaching for her own belt.
Trevor didn’t say anything else as he clicked his belt into place.
Despite his best efforts to drop the thought, the image of what he had seen earlier was still burned into his mind. He tried to focus on the road, but the memory kept coming back.
"Well, after all this time, I’ll finally see where you actually live. Don’t mind my manners; I really should have visited a long time ago," she said lightly.
She spoke exactly how a normal teacher would speak to a close student—nothing too special or out of the ordinary.
But Trevor wasn’t feeling it. He really didn’t want to talk to her today. Usually, she was someone he wanted to talk to no matter the time, but today was different.
It felt a little awkward, even though they hadn’t said a word to each other.
Miss Bella started the car and began to drive.
Along the way, she tried to start a conversation several times, but her attempts were quickly drowned out by Trevor’s short, blank answers.
Eventually, she gave up and just focused on the road.
Trevor watched the familiar houses and banners pass by.
He had walked this route so many times that he had memorized every single landmark.
He kept watching the familiar view until Miss Bella finally spoke again, her voice breaking the silence.
"Trevor, look... there is something I would like to tell you."
Her voice was calm and serious, making Trevor look at her for the first time since the journey began.
For a terrifying moment, he feared the worst. Did she actually catch him and miss Silvia? Panic surged through his chest, as pondered on the possibilities.
Miss Bella kept her eyes on the road as she continued to speak.
"It’s about what happened today."
Trevor’s heart skipped a beat. He stared at her, scanning her face for any clue of what was coming next.
The silence that engulfed the car next felt heavy.
"Well, Trevor, I know I might have been hard on you earlier, but I had to be. It’s really not safe out here.
I can understand why you might be angry, but I wouldn’t want to see my student get hurt because of something I could have corrected," she said, shooting him a quick look.
Finally, Trevor’s heart began to calm down. He let out a quiet sigh of relief and began answering her more eagerly, doing his best to avoid any further suspicion.
"I’m happy you understand. It was never my intention to come at you like that," she said calmly.
Unknowingly, Trevor’s eyes slipped down toward her lap. Her skirt was loose but short, leaving her thighs exposed.
Because she was sitting in the driver’s seat, the fabric had slipped a little higher than usual.
Trevor stared for just a second longer than he should have, but as if nature were against him, Miss Bella looked over at that exact moment.
Trevor quickly jerked his gaze away, looking back out the window.
An awkward silence refilled the car, one that felt like it was drowning the very life out of him.
When they finally reached his house, Trevor got out quickly and then thanked Miss Bella for the ride.
She simply nodded and drove off into the night.
Glad that the awkward ride was finally over. trevor took a deep breath and headed inside.
A heavenly smell hit him the moment he opened the door. It felt like walking into a five-star restaurant.
Trevor was exhausted after his long day, but that smell made him energized, turning, he saw his mother, Mia, sitting at the dining table.
She looked completely drained, her face pale from the effort of preparing such a big meal.
Trevor approached the table with a worried expression.
"Mom, how many times have I told you not to stress yourself out like this? I can handle the cooking. You aren’t fit for all this work."
"Well, I’m not complaining," Mia said, trying to force a smile despite the clear pain in her face.
"Besides, you must be tired from all your group study and then class today." mia added innocently.
"Well, I am complaining," Trevor insisted.
"I don’t want to see you going through all this stress for me. I’ll keep preparing the meals, don’t worry about that. I promise you’ll get well soon."
Mia stood up slowly. "Trevor, I’m sorry about what happened the other day when you came to my room. I feel like you’ve been avoiding me ever since."
The question caught Trevor completely off guard. He couldn’t find the words immediately.
Since that night, things hadn’t been the same. He had skipped dinner and stayed out late the next day. It wasn’t just his imagination; the distance between them was real.
But that really didn’t have anything to do with that night.
"No... you don’t need to be sorry. I mean—" Trevor lost his composure for a moment before taking a breath and trying to steady his voice.
