Chapter 490: The Prince And His Two Idiots

[TAMIKO]

"The entire realm shits itself at the mention of both your names, and you guys are bickering over a chess marathon you’ve been on for the past three days?

"Are you guys sure the lack of sleep didn’t play a part in the madness you both are reeling in now?" Tamiko asked, like he were the responsible adult of the three of them.

Maybe it was time for him to step up?

"Zaffuto said he would end the game if I won, but he didn’t. That was three days ago."

"And I let my dear brother win the first thirty times. He is just pissed I’m not letting him win again."

"You started being mean because I mentioned that I was sent a proposal for an Erasthai."

"No, I did not. I simply said we can play the game for REAL then."

"See... each time I mention an Erasthai, you get to pout."

"I’m not pouting. This is my face when I think I’m dealing with an unreasonable idea."

"Oh, for fucks sake. It wasn’t even my Erasthai to begin with."

"Yeah, right. Because that woman who keeps eye-fucking you in the hallways is really out for the good of the kingdom."

"Have you seen how the women look at you, too?"

"Everyone knows they won’t ever have me, even if the sun and stars exist in their eyes!"

"Then why are you shouting?!"

"You’re the one shouting!"

"Because you’re acting jealous!"

"Maybe it’s because I am jealous!!" the king threw in, and everything went quiet.

Tamiko stared at the two of them as he had never really seen them like this, and truly, he hadn’t. It was like this was the first time he was seeing them this messy, and he didn’t know whether to throw in a joke or come back later.

"Zaffuto..."

"That old woman looks at you like she knows she can take you from me, and I don’t like it. I don’t like the way she is always so smug and confident about it. Maybe that makes me insane, but you always loved me anyway.

"So why do you want to leave me then? You’re my best friend for life. We promised to be there for each other all those years ago. Why do you wanna change it then? Is it not enough that we have been anchoring each other through shit all this time?" the king asked.

Sadako stared at his brother like Zaffuto couldn’t really be serious.

Then again, the fact that Zaffuto had yet to acknowledge his son while he was bickering with Sadako was a huge tell for them.

The king was pissed.

He was angry, and it was even pissing him off that he couldn’t do shit about his anger without upsetting Sadako or even the order of things. This was so fucked up it was unsettling.

"You’re crazy. You really are crazy. I have never seen you this unhinged, not even when Sahina and Liana were in our lives. You really got the crazy genes after they left us, didn’t you?" lord Sadako said incredulously.

Zaffuto just glared at the Lycan lord as if he were so close to strangling Sadako with his fingers, even if that wasn’t such a good idea for him to consider right now.

"Maybe you guys should just get married?" Tamiko suggested.

The king burst into a fit of coughs.

While Sadako just smacked Tamiko on the back of his head.

"Stop giving him ideas, you little shit," Sadako sighed in defeat.

"You already bicker like an old married couple. Besides, just so you know, I wouldn’t be opposed to having both of you marry each other. It would just be sad that both of you were left to torment other women or men in the name of love," Tamiko snorted smugly.

This time, the king rolled his eyes at his son’s suggestion.

"Zaffuto... That old woman was talking about Konstantin. She mentioned that the kid stopped buying suppressants and that we needed to figure out a way to bring him back to his Erasthai—

"—who, by the way, is your son... You unreasonable beast," Lord Sadako scolded, like he was the adult, and Zaffuto was just a kid who needed to be reprimanded.

Tamiko, realizing that this time his father was the subject of his uncle’s reprimand, burst out laughing when his father facepalmed, like he never thought about it like that. These two really were a piece of work.

And maybe just maybe, they deserved each other.

Friendship or not.

"Well, I won’t apologize for what you made me think," Zaffuto huffed defiantly, and the Lycan Lord knew he was in for a long day.

"How about you two make up while helping me figure out if going to Kosta and bringing him home won’t sound like I’m thinking with my rut, but like I want him back desperately?" Tamiko said before Lord Sadako could come up with a retort that would probably keep on going for days.

Now he understood why the chess games this time had taken a long time.

"We were not fighting," the king said sharply.

"Riightt... and I’m not in love with Kosta," Tamiko said with a sheepish smile.

"I’m starting to think Liana left you both in my life to torment me for the rest of my life, because I laughed the first time she threatened this old goat," Lord Sadako let out a miserable sigh, and the Hinatas had the nerve to burst into laughter.

Then again, their laughs were as addictive as, somehow, along the way, the Lycan lord found himself laughing too.

"Go... If you want him, it’s time to bring him back home. Don’t worry about the crown or anything. Sadako and I will keep the kingdom running until you feel ready to take over. Go get your happiness, son," King Zaffuto said.

Tamiko looked between the two of them like he was suddenly not sure it was a responsible decision to leave his father and lord Sadako unattended.

"Will you both be okay?" Tamiko asked sincerely.

"Of course... Konstantin is your Erasthai, little angel. Your happiness is what we both want. It’s never changed before, and it won’t ever change," King Zaffuto said affectionately.

Lord Sadako let out another sigh, making Zaffuto stare at his brother questionably.

"The kid is asking if WE will be okay on our own. Sometimes I wonder if you fried your head from too much thinking in chess these last few days. This little shit doesn’t trust us to be alone isn’t the same space.

"He probably thinks we will burn the kingdom down if he leaves us without a responsible adult to look over us," Lord Sadako gritted.

Tamiko stepped back a few feet, like he could smell the pillows being so close to getting hurled at him.

But at least he had a responsible worry, right?

"Do we need one, though?" the mad king asked like he was thinking it over for real.

"Goddess help me with these two," Sadako sighed in disbelief, like he was never going to be ready for whatever the fuck was to come out of his brother’s mouth these days.

"Wish me luck... Please don’t burn the palace down while you bicker. You can go back to your bickering now," Tamiko said, rushing to close the door.

He wasn’t surprised when his uncle’s sandal flew right past his head right before the door closed.
