Vengeance of The Broken Lycan Prince [BL]-Chapter 482: The Midnight Moon’s Twisted Game
[KOSTA]
"Your majesty..." Kosta said as he looked at the King, unable to look anywhere else. He could see the way the man was tired of waiting, of hoping, of trying to figure things out. He could see how worn out the king had gotten.
The day that should have been the happiest for them in a long time had just been turned into a lonely one with a blood bath that haunted. And now all the Lycan chief could say to the king was nothing.
Not even the way that he had been sure the king heard everything he had said to Tamiko. But would it matter?
Would the king try to stop him from going after Yilena?
Was it the smartest decision for the man?
"Hmm," King Zaffuto let out, like he was not ready for whatever was coming from Kosta.
He had heard what Kosta had said. He had listened, and honestly, he definitely knew that Kosta was going to go after Yilena. That he was going to make the hard choice that the king and the others hadn’t been able to make over the past few hours.
It was not an easy choice, and that was okay because Kosta seemed to have made the choice.
But then Kosta noticed how silent the king had gotten after his slow response.
It was like he was not sure what to say. Like the world was just a playground that had proven to be so costly for them, and there was no telling what was right and wrong at the moment.
Maybe it would all be okay, yeah?
"I have no choice, uncle," Kosta said as he looked at the king.
He knew that this was not what the man wanted to hear, but someone had to make the hard choice. The decision everyone was hesitating about. Someone had to try and make it easier to understand because otherwise, there would be losses all over.
"Kostantin..." King Zaffuto trailed off gently.
Kosta looked at him, scared of what would come from the man’s mouth. He could already tell that it wasn’t going to be the best of things, but at least Igor had a reason this time.
He had every right to fight for Tamiko, and that was what he was trying to make possible because, at the end of the day, there wasn’t a soul who would make any of this workable for both of them.
Maybe the king finally got to the point where he was not opposed to Igor doing what they had not dared to do over the past few years.
But then, would it matter when the sun went down, and they lost Tamiko, or was this the kind that had them making certain that everything was sorted before it could get any worse?
"I know. I honestly expect you to fight me, but I’ll just let you know that this time, I will fight back. I won’t hesitate... for him. If my life is the price for his life, then that is one that I must pay. I don’t mind," Kosta stated as a matter of factly.
He wasn’t giving the king a chance to even have an opinion on this. He was telling the man what was going to happen, and if Zaffuto wanted to fight, then he needed to know that there wouldn’t be anyone stopping them until the very end.
Because that was how far Kosta was willing to take this on.
"Fighting won’t save him, Konstantin... Not now," King Zaffuto let out a soft breath.
"Tell me why you would stand there and watch what she does. Why wouldn’t you even try to fight for Tamiko? He is your son. Isn’t that supposed to make it easier? Isn’t that meant to make life better for him?
"What the hell is even going on right now? Why are you not doing anything? What happened to the promises you made to him? To always be there for him? To always be the one between danger and him?
"You saw it. He is losing this fight, and you are not doing anything. What happened to the father who was always ready to give up his life for his son?" Kosta asked in defeat.
He was really trying to understand, and the king watched him sadly. Like, there was more to this, and like he really wanted to come clean to Kosta, but there were worse ramifications about it all.
None of this was okay.
It would never be, but would Kosta let it all go just because the king was starting to look remorseful and at a loss for words and whatever the hell he was thinking at the moment?
"Konstantin... it isn’t Yilena," the king said, carefully, like he was trying to make sure an explosive didn’t blow off in his face.
He could tell that the Lycan Chief was trying his very best not to mess up the relationship they already had, but then the king had to be honest with the kid.
If this was not going to end the way they hoped it would, Kosta deserved not to be in the dark.
Of course, at the king’s words, Kosta stared in disbelief as if to tell him that this wasn’t the moment for the king to play protective brother.
This really wasn’t the time, and Kostantin was trying so damn hard to stay controlled, but then there was only so much he could be patient with the way that things had gotten.
He was done.
He was done trying to be nice, and the king needed to choose a side. That was what Zaffuto was seeing on Kosta’s face, and he couldn’t even blame the man for this reaction. It was valid on every scale.
"It isn’t nana? What the fuck do you even mean? All of this was her doing, wasn’t it? And I obeyed it all to the letter, and now you want to say that it isn’t her fault? Then whose fault is it? Mine?" Kosta growled slowly.
And for the first time in the day, the king stiffened.
This was King Zaffuto’s moment of truth. This was his chance to make it better, and as King Zaffuto looked at Kosta, he wondered if there was ever going to be a better way out of this.
They had been trying to hold on for so long.
They had been trying their best.
Hell, it was even a miracle that they had gotten this far.
The pain had been too much.
The chaos had lingered for so long, and a father was standing in front of a kid he promised to keep safe, unsure how to explain the predicament that was straight back at home.
Like he didn’t know if Tamiko would be alright with him or if Kosta would be.
It was insane, so many scales, and it was scary because no matter what happened, they would always be on the same side. Why did it feel like they were standing on different sides, though?
Why the fuck was it so hard to make it work, even with all that they had now?
"You have to listen to me, Konstantin," the king tried calmly.
He was so calm that it was unsettling for Kosta.
What was he even playing at this time, then?
Kosta let out a defeated huff at the king’s voice.
"The ultimatum alone isn’t what’s killing Tamiko... It’s the curse," King Zaffuto added.
"Curse?" Kosta sked.
"Yes. Sanji’s curse on your mating bond."
And then Kosta’s world went quiet.
