Chapter 477: And When The Deal Was Done...

[KOSTA]

Igor knew they were watching him.

He had felt the eyes since the moment he had gotten off his horse and let Akila go with it to the shed where the barbarians always left theirs.

He knew it wasn’t the easiest of things for him, and he understood that this was something that he had to deal with.

He could see the way their eyes softened each time he passed by a group of Lycans. The way that their hearts seemed to be breaking for him and the man he loved.

He could see the way they held him in high regard as he strode past them, covered in the blood and ashes of Grealor. None of them even needed to ask what had happened because everyone had heard it.

The screams of the wolves from Grealor.

The massacre had ended way sooner and faster than any massacre had ever happened in the realm.

He knew they felt terrible for him. And he wanted to tell them not to worry, but even he couldn’t get himself to believe that.

He was doomed in love with the prince.

He was hurt, and the only person who was able to save him from the pain and agony that he was experiencing at the moment was somewhere in the old rooms, waiting for Igor to return. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

He never wanted to believe that Yilena would be capable of what had happened to them, but life did have a way of proving people wrong.

Right now, the only thing that ever mattered was the fact that Grealor was gone and the ultimatum needed to be relieved. That was the only thing that kept moving as he walked into the palace and felt the servants’ eyes on him.

Everyone knew that the prince wasn’t in the right shape.

However, they were also painstakingly aware that Igor was willing to do whatever it took to make the prince better.

Maybe what they didn’t understand was the ultimatum, but then it was time to break the darn thing and keep them safe and happy for whatever was left of their eternal lives, yeah?

"Where is she?" Igor asked where walked into Danny who had just come from seeing Tamiko.

Chief Konstantin could smell the distress of the Lycan Lord, and his heart was hurt. He wanted to tell Danny that Tamiko would be okay now that Grealor was gone, but then he couldn’t be sure himself.

He had to go face off with Yilena first and make sure that what he wanted happened because otherwise it was just all talk and shit. Maybe this was his chance to start over, but would he take away the ultimatum then?

"The east wing balcony, first floor," Danny said, not even making a comment about the state that the Lycan Chief was in.

He understood how dire the situation was, and as much as he was tempted to make remarks, the young Lycan Lord knew that nothing that came from his mouth was going to make Igor feel any better.

And he didn’t want to make the man feel worse than he was already feeling anyway.

Wordlessly and exhausted, Igor walked in the direction of the east wing balcony. He didn’t pay heed to the servants who were making way for him, their eyes sad and filled with pity for him.

He wasn’t going to pay attention to that.

Because if he did, then he would break down.

He would lose touch with his reality, and he would probably wallow in depression for the rest of his life. That wasn’t something that he wanted to do for both of them.

Tamiko was in pain, and Igor was going to make sure to end it.

He couldn’t lose.

Not this time.

Not when the love of his life was still considered a teenager.

He had lost Tamiko enough times in the last eleven years that he would be damned if he let Yilena try to ruin what life had for the both of them. Igor refused to believe that again. And so, he made his way.

"Nana," Igor greeted his nana, the woman who swore to take good care of him and who was tasked with keeping him happy.

It was almost hilarious how the same woman had been the reason for everything that had gone wrong for Igor and Tamiko.

But no one was paying attention right now, yeah?

At her kid’s voice, Yilena turned to him. She knew that he had done something that would probably demand a reprimand from her, given the way that he was standing there, drenched in blood and ashes from Grealor.

She knew what he had done, and even though she was probably waiting for him to come clean to her, she had to have understood what the consequences would be for what she had pushed him into.

She had to have understood what it would be like and why the chaos was not to be trusted, no matter how things had gotten for them. It was scary and insane, but then no one was counting this time, yeah?

"Konstantin," Yilena acknowledged as she looked at him once more. She could see the rare pain in his eyes even after the victory that he had come to report to her, and her heart ached for him.

This wasn’t how life was to be, but the Yilena had played her cards in the most unhinged of ways, and here they were with so much pain and anguish that spanned across the kingdom.

But none had felt that pain more than Igor Konstantin.

"Grealor is gone. I killed them all. Every last one of them... I burned them all down to make sure there was nothing that remained of the ultimatum. So, undo it, nana. Put an end to it...

"Release us now," Igor said, his voice steady, yet the transition was more than evident.

He had been fighting the whole day.

And he hadn’t slept well.

Not to mention the stress from all that had happened.

He was not even functioning properly, yet he still held on, like he was determined to get that ticket to freedom regardless of what he looked like and what his body was screaming at him.

It was the hardest of things for him, but then he had to be steady.

For Tamiko.

For his beloved.

He had to make sure everything made sense.

"Kostantin... I—" Yilena began, her tone making Igor look at her like she couldn’t really be coming up with another excuse right this moment when he had killed children and women, and elders in the name of revenge.

He had crossed a line that he had never thought he could ever cross, and his nana couldn’t seriously be trying to weasel out of the ultimatum like that.

She had to undo it; it was the only way.

"Undo it. You demanded vengeance as the price for it all, and I completed it. I did it for both of us. You never specified what or who would finalize the vengeance against Grealor.

"I did it for both of us, now release the ultimatum that binds us, nana," Igor said, his tone harsh, but his exhaustion was still there.
