Chapter 433: Blood, Fire, Ashes... A Mad King’s Vengeance [5]

[ZAFFUTO]

"I... I’m still... I bested you, Z... Zaffuto," Ashton said, his voice hoarse as his body shook with fury and fear even as the king drained all of his power. The man was still proud instead of submitting.

But even if he submitted, there was nothing that he would do to make Zaffuto leave him whole. Because even now, the once-untouchable alpha who had engineered the prince’s bullying and slavery in Grealor was nothing but a stain on the Kawai grounds.

His collapse was so shameful that it was pointless for him to keep holding onto his pride.

"You are nothing, Grealor," King Zaffuto said with a tone of finality as he drained the last of the Alpha’s power, rendering it no something worse than any of the lowest omega.

The Alpha was reduced to a mere mortal.

A human.

The very thing that hadn’t been seen in the realm for ages.

Mortals had been eliminated for a long time, and the human realm was separate from theirs. Many people assumed that the humans were all dead, and what was left were the beasts that had won the battles against the humans and claimed all the lands.

And now, after what seemed like a millennium, there was a human in the midst of Lycans and wolves in the midst of the supernaturals who had been so used to immortality.

"You wouldn’t dare," Ashton coughed in rage as he looked at the king, who now towered over him like a predator, and his smirk was so satisfied that you would think that this was better than any punishment he could have given Ashton.

"And yet I just did. You are nothing, Ashton. Absolutely nothing. Powerless. Human. Mortal. Fickle. You’re everything you ever despised, everything that makes you want to wretch and commit murders.

"The only reason you aren’t dying by my hand is because I want you to live the rest of your days feeling the ruin you caused. And if you think you can try to kill yourself, don’t even think of it.

"I made sure to keep your lifespan long enough for your wolves to realize how useless you are and watch you grow old and grey. I think you’re going to love this new adventure. You love adventures after all, right?" Zaffuto mocked excitedly.

Ashton was at a loss for words for the first time in a really long, long while. Everyone who was watching them was too shocked to even breathe right. It was almost like they were scared that one breath would be enough for the king to turn to them.

The wolves were scared to the core.

They were too shocked, even as they saw what the king had turned their former alpha. A man who had been bested by the prince yet fixed by Zula. That man was now being reduced to the worst of the worst, and the craziest bit of it all was that there was no Zula who would come and fix him again.

There was nothing that he could do to get out of this with ease. Hell, he wouldn’t even be able to think of the future anymore. There wasn’t a future for Ashton. Zaffuto had made damn sure of it.

Time would remain precious to the alpha... or rather, the only human in a realm of beasts. This was the cruelest thing anyone would ever have done for the man, and honestly, it was creepy as fuck.

What the hell had they gotten turned into?

When the fuck had life gotten this complicated?

What the fuck was anyone even supposed to say to this???

It was just unbelievable to see Ashton breathing raggedly and how fragile he had become. One push for an omega was enough to get the former alpha to have broken bones.

This was insanity at best.

But even the devil wouldn’t have done what Ashton had done to Kawai all those years ago.

"Let’s see you try to fix that, Ashton Grealor," the king said coldly, mercilessly. He despised the Grealor alpha with all he had and didn’t have, and at the moment, he knew that when he had delivered the kind of justice that there was not a soul that would have.

This had been a hard thing for him to do, especially the twisted mercy he gave the man who had murdered his wife and ruined his life. But everyone around them knew that this was a fate far worse than death.

It was the kind of cruelty that only the monster of monsters could deliver.

It was not easy to face that truth, but for the first time in nearly four decades, Zaffuto felt a weight lift off his chest. It was like this was what he had been waiting for so desperately.

The chance to make things right, and he did. In his own way.

Everyone who watched what the king did remained horrified by him. The alpha who had led them into this war was now a human, powerless and still held together with fragile pride.

But even that pride was meaningless in front of the mad king of Kawai. This was Zaffuto’s justice for his people, and he just hated the cost he had paid for this. Maybe in another life, he would be a better father and kind, and a better Erasthai.

In another life, perhaps.

"Wh..." Gabriel, who had been woken up a few seconds ago by his link cutting from his father, woke up, scared of the truth that sat before him.

His father was still on his knees, broken and unrepentant. And the mad king was staring at Gabriel, a smirk sitting pretty on his face like he was daring the kid to step up and defend his father. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"This is what happens when you touch what’s mine," Zaffuto said, his tone filled with pride and deadlier than the aura around him.

His hand that had been fired had nothing on it anymore, and the pheromones he had been releasing had been reduced.

Everyone felt the change in the king’s posture and how he carried himself, and while they were scared of doing anything, they were glad this happened. The Lycan warriors were proud of their king.

They always were anyway.

"No... No," Gabe breathed helplessly as he staggered through the masses toward his father. His thumb that had been shoved in his mouth lay abandoned somewhere in the field.

His ear that had been chopped off had left him with a loud ringing, and as he rushed to his father, desperate to save the man who had been beaten, bested, and shamed, the king watched amusedly.

The sight before him was more pathetic than anything he’d ever seen before, but he was glad that this was the work of Daniel Belova, his son’s best friend, and sworn brother.

The disbelief on Gabe’s face was legendary, and the king could replay this moment over and over just because it made him such a happy man. It was a twisted moment, but he didn’t care anymore.

He had his son alive and well anyway.

"What have you done?" Gabe asked, his voice hoarse when he finally reached his father, even though he was bleeding.
