Chapter 595: Being reckless

He could see what Han Zhan had also seen. This zombie wasn’t brainless, in fact it was far intelligent and able to control the others. The only option was to cut off the head of the snake. freёnovelkiss.com

"How troublesome," he murmured. With a sneer, he jumped off the car, landing in a crouch. The ground trembled as he moved toward the thrashing horde.

"Yu Yu!" Han Xin called out, panic threading his voice as he fought back against the nearest zombie. His eyes darted to his man, filled with concern.

Xiang Yu glanced back, a reassuring smile breaking across his face. It was the kind of smile that favoured everything would be fine, that he had a plan. Han Xin opened his mouth to protest, but the words died in his throat. Unable to speak his fears, he swallowed them down.

With a sense of renewed determination, Han Xin threw himself into battle, swinging his weapon with fierce intensity. It was as if he had been injected with chicken blood. The entire time he was thinking of clearing a path and rushing over to Xiang Yu’s aid.

Each swing was more powerful than the last, and with every zombie he took down, he felt the tension in his chest ease just a little.

Behind Xiang Yu, Lian and Mei rushed in to support him. They had fought alongside each other for years, their bond forged in the heat of battle. Xiang Yu welcomed them without hesitation, knowing they would back him up just as he always had for them.

Together, they moved like a well-oiled machine. Lian darted to the left, her blade glinting in the low light as she struck down one zombie after another. Mei covered her flank, firing her weapon with deadly accuracy. Xiang Yu led the charge, focusing on the throng of monsters before him.

The air was thick with the smell of decay and smoke, the sounds of gunshots and screams blending into eerie sounds.

Xiang Yu purposefully approached the centre of the horde, where the highest-ranking zombie loomed, its grotesque form rising above the others. He could feel the intensity of its gaze, and the growls it emitted sent shivers down the other’s spines.

Xiang Yu stood with a devilish expression, excitement coursing through his veins. The chaos around him was intoxicating. He took a deep breath, steadied his aim, and fired through the wall of defence. The sound of gunfire was rapid and terrifying, echoing in the night. Each shot found its mark, succumbing the advancing horde to the ground.

With a swift motion, he pulled a fragmentation grenade from his belt and tossed it into the heart of the zombie formation. Time slowed as it arced through the air, landing with a thud in the muck. The zombie leader noticed and tried to sweep it away but it was too late.

The explosion that followed was deafening, a wave of sound that shook the earth beneath him. Flames erupted, and a crater formed in the ground, filled with burnt flesh and shattered limbs.

In the midst of the carnage, the highest-ranking zombie was left battered, one arm blown off at the elbow, its fury palpable. Its mouth twisted into a grotesque snarl, and its eyes bore into Xiang Yu with pure hatred.

In a cinematic move, Xiang Yu leapt forward, the ground falling away beneath him. Mid-air, he fired rounds into the beast, the gun thrumming with each shot.

The bullets struck true, forcing the creature’s body backward under the impact. He felt the thrill ignite within him, a rush that flowed through the chaos of the battlefield.

But soon, he ran out of ammo. He discarded the semi-automatic with a clang, pulling a dagger from his belt instead. The cool metal felt familiar, a comfort in this dance of death. The highest-ranking zombie growled, its mouth dripping black fluids that mixed with the remnants of its former flesh.

Drawing closer, Xiang Yu engaged fiercely, their movements a blur of violence. The struggle was exhilarating, and he felt alive in the moment. His demon blood stirred like a violent storm ready to erupt.

He spun the dagger in his hand, feeling the weight of it, the thrill of the impending fight coursing through him. The zombie seemed to feel the explosive power emanating from him and took a step back. It’s natural instinct to fear the strong momentarily taking over.

Xiang Yu saw this and sneered, daring the monster to come at him. "Scared?" he taunted, his grin wide and feral.

The zombie roared as he lunged forward. Xiang Yu moved like a demon, his body a blur of motion and intent. The dagger spun in his hand, glinting under the flickering firelight as he lunged forward against the high-ranking zombie.

The zombie had one arm missing but its ferocity remained unyielding. Its remaining arm swung wildly, swiping at Xiang Yu with a hunger that defied its injuries.

He danced out of reach, a smirk playing on his lips as he taunted the beast. It roared in frustration, its growl deep and guttural. Xiang Yu was relentless, his movements fluid, a predator toying with its prey.

He darted in close, slicing through the air with his dagger, but the zombie was stronger than it appeared. Its remaining arm struck out, it blood splattering onto Xiang Yu’s cheek.

Wiping at the disgusting fluids trickling down his face, Xiang Yu flashed a wicked smile. "How pathetic?" he provoked, and the zombie’s growl turned into a furious shriek.

The creature recognized the mocking tease and its aggression surged, the hunt now a vendetta.

With a swift leap back, he placed distance between them. The high-ranking zombie lunged forward, but Xiang Yu was ready.

He surged forward, dodging the swipes and returned the favor by slashing at its exposed abdomen. The dagger bit deep, and the zombie let out a pained growl as its insides spilled forth in thick, dark clumps.

But Xiang Yu wasn’t finished. With a visceral thrill coursing through him, he twisted and viciously slit the zombie’s throat. The creature’s roar turned into a choking gurgle as it staggered back, life quickly draining from its grotesque boody.

A sudden high-pitched scream pierced the night. A female zombie, her eyes wild and rabid, lunged at him. But before she could close the distance, a bullet whizzed past Xiang Yu, striking the female zombie squarely in the head.

Her skull exploded, brain matter and bone raining down in a grotesque display as her body fell lifeless to the ground.

Xiang Yu turned his head instinctively, meeting Han Xin’s gaze. The look in Han Xin’s eyes was tumultuous, a mix of anger and concern.

"You are being careless?" he said frustration etching his features. Xiang Yu flashed him a dazzling smile. A bright, reckless grin that sparkled even in the dark. But that smile did little to reassure Han Xin.

"Husband, I was just having a bit of fun!" Xiang Yu called out, his voice laced with excitement. But that did little to appease his man.

Soon the wave of zombies around them was quickly diminishing, their numbers dwindling under the barrage of fire and fierce blades. One by one, they fell, their bodies scattering across the field like dark remnants of a nightmare.

The remaining creatures were wild and desperate, clawing at the last threads of life, but with a unified front they pushed them back relentlessly.
