Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)-Chapter 594: I am not a kid
Chapter 594: I am not a kid
Xiang Yu carefully designated each team to their attack points. He pointed at the city plan, giving clear instructions. His voice was steady and serious.
When he finished, he looked at Han Xin. "Is there anything else you want to add?" he asked softly.
Han Xin moved closer, almost pressing half his body against Xiang Yu’s back. His voice was quiet but focused. "What about a contingency plan? In case something goes wrong."
While asking, Han Xin slipped his arm behind Xiang Yu’s waist, hidden from others. His hand gently caressed Xiang Yu’s side. Xiang Yu kept a straight face, but his lips curled slightly into a small smile.
He turned his head just a little, his cheeks almost brushing Han Xin’s lips. "We can discuss a contingency plan later," he said softly.
Their eyes met for a moment, full of tension and unspoken affection. Xiang Yu was the first to look away. He cleared his throat and said calmly, "We will go through it again the night before."
Everyone nodded in agreement. They dispersed quietly, each person ready to rest after an exhausting number of days.
A few minutes later, Xiang Yu stepped away from the camp, walking slowly to the edge. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the fresh, cool air. The night was quiet, the stars faintly twinkling overhead.
Suddenly, he felt arms wrap around him from behind. Han Xin’s scent, warm and familiar, drifted over him. Han Xin sniffed Xiang Yu’s hair softly, then pressed a gentle kiss to the crown of his head.
"What are you thinking?" Han Xin asked quietly.
Xiang Yu paused, closing his eyes for a moment. "I am thinking that after this, we should go back home. Live the rest of our lives stress-free," he said softly.
Han Xin gently swayed their bodies together, holding Xiang Yu close. His voice was tender. "I would love that."
But then, Xiang Yu’s peaceful expression suddenly changed. Han Xin sensed it immediately.
"Something is coming?" Han Xin asked, tightening his hold.
In the distance, a large group of zombies appeared, shambling slowly but relentlessly. There were at least a hundred of them. They were high-level zombies, more vicious and grotesque than most. Leading the charge was a creature far more menacing, taller and stronger, with eyes glowing in the darkness.
The question hung heavy in the air. Why were there such a large number of zombies despite most of them being eradicated over the years? What were the chances that they would somehow find their location in the middle of nowhere and attack?
Xiang Yu’s jaw clenched as he stared at the approaching threat. It was obvious who had created such an army of zombies and how they found them but now wasn’t the time to point fingers.
The silence of the campsite was suddenly shattered by a low, throaty roar. It sent a shiver through the team, sharp and cold, a warning of the danger encroaching on them.
"Get your weapons ready and get into position!" Han Xin barked, urgency threading his voice. In the dim light of their campfire, shadows danced as each member scrambled to grab their weapons. freёweɓnovel_com
The flickering flames illuminated their determined faces. They had fought zombies countless of times in the past and weren’t afraid at all. If anything they wanted it over and done with.
Han Zhan was already taken his position, his sharp eyes scanning for movement. Han Xin awalys insisted on placing explosives around their campsite which provided an extra layer of protection.
"Stay calm and don’t use your powers unless absolutely necessary," Han Xin reminded them. Using their powers would only lead to wasted energy so it was better to conserve it.
The night split open with another roar, this one guttural and enraged. The highest-ranking zombie led the charge, its grotesque form twisting through the shadows, disgusting fluids oozing and catching the low light.
A rancid smell swept through the air, thick and suffocating. The other zombies followed, limbs flailing, their pace picking up as terror surged behind them.
Then came the explosions, a series of thundering booms that rocked the ground underneath them. Dreadful screams filled the air, shrill and haunting as the zombies met their fate. Han Zhan crouched low, methodically aiming his weapon.
He felt a surge of adrenaline as he squeezed the trigger, the bullets finding their marks with unparalleled precision. Limbs flew, and heads erupted in bursts of dark fluid, painting the ground like gruesome artwork.
But amid the chaos, he caught a glimmer out of the corner of his eye. One of the zombies simply disintegrated into dust, leaving behind no trace but swirling particles.
His gaze shifted to Little Bai, who huddled behind the car, eyes wide with fear and fascination. "Kids should go hide," he shouted, his voice urgent yet laced with concern. "Don’t cause trouble!"
Little Bai glared at him, youthful eyes filled with defiance. She was silent, but the look spoke volumes. Han Zhan turned his attention back to the chaos. The night felt heavy, shadows blurring as more zombies surged forward.
The shrieks of the undead echoed again, mingling with the deep roar of the explosive charges. Han Zhan took a deep breath, steadying himself. He stared down his sights, focusing on the next target.
He scanned the night through his scope for his next target. He was about to pull the trigger when a flash of light caught his eye. His target disintegrated before he could fire. A sigh escaped his throat as he turned to look at the culprit.
"I am not a kid," came Little Bai’s voice. It was firm, unyielding.
Han Zhan lowered his rifle, glancing back at her. "Ah okay, okay," he relented, holding up his hands in mock surrender. "I was wrong. You are not a kid so little ancestor please let me go."
A smile crept onto his face, brightening the dark scene around them. He shifted his focus away from Han Zhan targets, and for a moment, he felt an undeniable sweetness dripping in his heart.
But the battle raged on. Explosions rocked the ground, sending dirt and debris into the air, yet there was a strange order within the chaos. Han Zhan watched as the zombies began to dwindle, their numbers slowly thinning beneath their combined assault.
But the highest-ranking zombie was not finished. It was fuming, its chest heaving with laboured breaths. Muscles rippled beneath its grotesque skin, and as it roared, black spit flew from its mouth, catching the glint of moonlight as it fell.
With a fervour that raised the hairs on the back of Han Zhan’s neck, the other zombies responded. They had a hive mentality, listening intently to their leader. A chill shot through him as he saw them charge forward. It was like a relentless tide.
No matter how many were blown apart, no matter how many limbs were lost, the horde pressed on, crawling if they had to. They were driven by instinct, fueled by an ugly rage, and nothing would stand in their way.
Xiang Yu stood on top of the car, the cold metal pressing against his boots as he stared through the scope of his rifle. In the chaos below, the zombies were becoming erratic. Their movements were wild, desperate. It was clear they were trying to dismantle the perimeter of their defences, clawing at the edges of the team’s safety net.
