Yujun’s POV

The room is silent except for the noises coming in from outside, the giggling of children and the voices of people conversing, the footsteps of people running by and the occasional barking of dogs.

Hwangyeon is so full of life in a beautiful way that my clan home isn’t.

Every minute spent here is always a reminder that I have only known bondage and pain while wearing a gold crown on a gold seat. Decorated torture.

I breathe in the soft smell of rain on leaves as I sit still for Yeon to examine me.

His pheromone feels so calming that I am tempted to lay against him and fall asleep, knowing that I will be safe and cared for and most especially...I will be loved.

"You are sure you don’t feel ill?" he asks, breaking the silence in the room and I nod my head. My cheeks are still hot from the jokes Jaehyun kept saying even with his mom in the room.

While he worries and fusses over me, I pay attention to his visuals, his pretty nose, his soft brown eyes and the curve of his lips. He is a beautiful man, and he wears his beauty confidently.

"If you keep looking like that, I might be forced to have a photoshoot just for you" he jokes and I duck my head, blushing again.

"You are really...handsome" I say and his smile brightens, "Thank you, you are really handsome too pup" he says and pats my head.

It amazes me how he takes care of me like I belong in his pack and like I matter.

"I have pack duties in a few minutes, will you like to join me?" he asks and I shake my head immediately, "why not?" he asks.

"Wouldn’t being seen by pack members mean trouble?" I ask him and he sighs, "I keep forgetting that this is what our lives have been reduced to...we go from being people to being members of a pack and its rules" he says.

"Feel free to explore these walls, our employees here know that nothing should be retold" Yeon says and gets up after heaving a sigh.

"I will be back to check on you; make sure you contact me if you feel your heat again" he instructs and leaves.

With Yeon out of the room, I lay on my side and look at the walls, wondering what would be happening at home by now?

Would they have found out about my running away.

"Mom" I say as soon as the call connects.

"Choi Yujun" my mother’s voice calls through the phone, she sounds distressed, "mom?" I question and she breaks into a sob.

I sit up in panic with adrenaline pumping through my veins and my heart pounding with fear.

"My son, where are you?" she asks and I hop out of the bed, frantically looking for my own clothes, "Mom what is wrong? What is going on?" I ask and she sobs again.

"Mom! What is it?" I ask again, not being able to find my clothes, I shrug on the hoodie that was placed by me on the bed.

"Why would you run out on the alpha that is supposed to use you? Did you even think of us?" she sobs and I pull the phone away from my ear to look at it.

What?

"Mom" I call and she keeps talking.

"Yubin is not happy at all"

"Mom"

"She picked Kang Sihyuk herself and-"

"Mom"

"He paid a really good price for you"

"MOM" I shout into the phone, and everything goes silent.

The other end of the line seems to go off and the environment I’m in goes hush with my shout.

"Mom" I call softer, "’Yujun-ah, have you been hurt’" I say.

"’Yujun-ah, does anything hurt?’"

"’Yujun-ah, have you eaten’" my voice breaks with emotions but I don’t cry.

The alpha first son heir of the might Choi clan never cries.

’You are a person too’ my omega whines inside me.

"I-I was going to ask all that" my mother stutters on the other end of the line and I shake my head even if she can’t see me.

"You are not" I say softly and she stutters some more.

"You’re a strong man, you know how to take care of yourself obviously, since you broke Kang’s head" mom says and I shut my eyes tight.

"You are worried about Kang’s head?" I ask and she responds quickly, "Of course!", and I return to sit on the bed feeling defeated as I hunch my back.

Being in Hwangyeon has made me forget what my home truly is...how dare I expect more?

"Did you worry when I had my first heat?" I asked.

"Of course I did, you were supposed to be an alpha, and you suddenly presented an omega, I was worried what your father would think of us" mom says.

Always about her and never about me.

"I’m alive mom, thanks for calling" I say and hang up the call.

I don’t want to hear more; I am already bleeding enough.

My phone rings again, it’s still mom.

"Mom" I say tiredly as I accept the call, "why would you hang up on your mother?" she asks and I stay silent, listening to her yell at me.

"What do you want?" I ask and she huffs.

"Come back home as soon as possible, there is a clan war brewing, I overheard your father talking about it" she says and I rub at my face, feeling my stubble scratch against my palm.

"I know if you redeem yourself with the clan war, your father will forgive you for running" she says eagerly and I bring my knees up to my chest and wrap my arms around my leg.

"Who and who are warring?" I ask.

"Choi and Hwang" she says and my blood grows cold.

Of course, something has to start every time Jaehyun and I spend time together. Our reminder that we are playing with poison by trying to be with each other.

The door opens and Jaehyun peeks in with a cold look on his face, not like the man who left me this morning after making love to me.

"Yujun, we need to talk" he says and I bow my head.

And I just know that what I have always expected is finally here.
